My Specs:
Core2Duo@2.93GigaHertz
3Gb DDR2 RAM
ATI Raedon HD4350
Windows Vista SP2 32-bit
McAfee Antivirus Software

Somehow i get average frame rate about 10 fps (measured with FRAPS), which is unbelievable and unplayable. The mouse lags badly even at really low graphics settings, which makes it impossible to aim. I was able to play through Dragon Age fine, with no problems....is ME1 especially intensive wrt hardware ? And, can I even play it satisfiably with my computer specs ?:huh:

Also, the difference in frame rates between lowest and highest graphics settings is only about 2-3 fps....seems wierd to me...also, my computer shows both cpu and RAM usage as about 60% while running ME1.....

I read a few fixes like 'overclocking the cpu' (i dont really know what that is), or setting depth of field to false in some .ini files....do they work? and are they the only way to make ME1 work on my PC ? I can play newer games at maxed settings on my PC with great looks, shouldn't it run ME1 better than this ?

It's supposed to run that terribly when all you have is just a very slow business graphics video card that is only able to handle charts, graphs, presentations, and spreadsheets, but not games.

The ME-1 requirements were totally screwed up.  Here's ME-2, which is pretty close -- just a little more efficient, so an HD 5450 will just about work in it, but would not do so in ME-1.

                    ME2

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Hard Drive = 15 GB
DVD ROM = 1x Speed
Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible
Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input = Keyboard / Mouse
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, and HD 4350 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

(The only way an HD 4350 could possibly "run" a game such as DA would be at lowered resolution, and with small textures.  It has only a 64 bit memory system, so no matter how big of a RAM load that a SCAM trick caused to be on it, only 128 MBs are available to games.  That's also the only way a Geforce 6600 GT gets by, since that was a bad suggestion on EA's part.)

oh well, I know I dont have a gaming graphics card, but it runs other games much more visually appealing than ME without problems....(like assassin's creed, COD WaW, even Dragon age...)

and are you saying that ME2 would run better than ME1 on my PC, even though its sooo recent ? And, is my graphics card is soo poor wrt ME that there's no work-around ?? Well, I guess buying ME1 wasnt a very good idea for me....

and, also, a rather unrelated (maybe stupid) question....can I upgrade my graphics card even though my Pc is not assembled, but branded (I bought it from dell, Inspiron 535)...? Like, can I simply buy another graphics card and plug it in the slot where the current one is plugged (as it happens in assembled PC's I guess)?

These use different engines. Dragon Age was much criticized for its dated graphics and I would definitely not call that more visually appealing than Mass Effect. :P

And yes, Mass Effect 2 runs much smoother than Mass Effect 1 on low and medium resolutions. On higher resolutions the first game runs better, at least on my Geforce 9600 GT which runs the first game at 1920 x 1080 at 50 frames per second and the second at 30-50 fps at 1600 x 900. On my old 12080x1024 monitor Mass Effect 2 ran better.

I am no expert when it comes to any branded PC.  I thought that the "Inspiron" started out as a laptop line, and if so, only Dell would be able to perform a video upgrade to it, if they chose to do so (it was my understanding that the reason they charged so much was that the card and mainboard were so solidly fused together that their upgrades required a new mainboard as well).

As a desktop, if that line now includes both, yes, you can replace the business graphics card with one that was actually designed for gaming, with limitations on how far you go, based on whether you want to also upgrade the power supply.  You can go Mainline, to a Geforce GT240, or to a Radeon HD 5670, with the stock Dell PSU from a normal desktop case (not necessarily from a Slimline case's power supply), or you can go High End, but you will need to obtain a high quality, high current power supply designed for such a video card, and one of those costs as much, or more than, the Mainline video card all by itself.

Any time anyone wants a fast look at any particular video card's benchmarks, Toms hardware performs new series of tests every three months or so for the VGA Charts there.  I enjoy referring to the "Bang for the Buck" articles that appear some 9-10 times a year there.

P. S.  I see that there was no link to any deals anywhere, maybe because for some reason there aren't any sales or rebates in effect right now.  This is the best deal at Newegg, with free shipping, at $90 for an HD 5670 from XFX:
