Ok, people, I took a look around and found no generic topic about Assault Rifles. Now that's I'd like to do: having feedbacks about your experiences in using assault rifles and try to understand which is the best in ripping enemies. This is a spoiler forum so please use example of foes you killed. Ok, let's start.
I found Collector AR very useful as it has almost no recoil, and becomes very accurate after the precision research. I also tried Geth AR, but for one round that hits the target, 5 miss it, at medium range. Vindicator is good but the 3-round burst fire is too frustrating to me, Revenant is very very good, and can rip a husk in like two seconds but it has an high recoil. Now please, if you're interested, tell your exerience.
Looking for the best assault rifle

Vindicator Vindicator Vindicator.
Seriously the damage this thing can do is unbeatable by any standard AR. (revenant could challenge it for short range but thats for soldiers only.)
It has to be the most versatile and reliable weapon in the game.

Vidicator is basically the headshot machine. Headshots are the only shots you want to take, and the Vindicator will put them there every time.

I've never understood the argument that Vindicators are better because they allow more precise shooting. Perfectly placed headshots are what sniper rifles are for.
The purpose of the Revenant is, for instance, to strip away the shields, armor and health of the Geth Prime that's standing between you and the escape hatch on Heretic Station. You can argue that's what heavy weapons are for. Because you can make that and other arguments, this has never been a purely Vindicator vs. Revenant question. This is a "What's the best loadout for your style of play" question: What's the combination you need?
I tend toward the Carnafex/Scimitar/Revenant/Viper (would like to try Incisor)/Collector Particle Beam loadout.

Vindicator isn't the best. It's just got the best DPS. Revenant blows it out of the water.

Revenant all the way! Once you've tamed this beast (handling recoil) nothing in the universe can stop you. For precise shooting there is the Viper.

The Revenant and Adrenaline Rush are your friends.
In my first playthrough I had difficulty handling the Revenant, but at my second with the Soldier I ripped everyone apart on Insanity. You need to learn to handle it's recoil and low accuracy. Once you got that covered, you're unstoppable.

In this order (At least my personal preference):
1. Revenant
2. Geth Assault Rifle
3. Vindicator
4. Avenger
Haven't used the Collector's Assault Rifle, but that's my opinion on all the others. I know the general consensus around here is that the GPR really sucks, but I actually love it. Slap armor piercing rounds on that thing and it's comparable to the Revenant, if you ask me. The Revenant is alright when you first get it, and is MUCH better once you get the accuracy upgrade.

Vindicator is great for firing a short burst then popping back to cover. It's also great for ardenaline rush headshot kills, or you can destroy shields of multiple enemies with one AR, when one burst kills the shield. Vindicator's DPS is only topped by revenant, with the reservation that you either have to be very close for nearly all shots to hit, or you have to fire for so long a time that vindicator has to reload, lowering vindicators DPS.

The Vindicator is a smart choice & very precise weapon. My personal preference is for the Revvy though as it just appeals to me on a very basic level.

I guess it depends on your personal preference. My solider uses Reverent. Add inferno ammo, adrenaline rush and max out all its stats and you're a killing machine. My engineer is using the Geth Pulse Riffle, I find it to be effective and suits my play of the eningneer.

Yes, collecting (lol, collecting) different preferences was the aim of this topic. It's like a "referendum" when the topic will get nomore postes, I'll see which one got more preferences. Now: yesterday I tried both the Collector AR and the Locust. They are so similar that there is no needing of using them at the same time. So I think my vanguard will use the vindicator (I did a stupid thingh not to picking up the Claymore, but the Locust wasn't out, yet). But a soldier should have a full-auto, so the Revenant, or the Collector. Please keep posting your ideas.

Depends. At the end, the revenant has very very good accuracy as long as you are in cover. Like the cheap version of crouching.
But early on when you get the revenant is damn stupid, freacking thing without accuracy upgrades is annoying. Until then, I usually get Vindicator. Careful with the ammo though has ....absurdly low ammo. That is if your doing without mods so.
PS: controlled burst no matter the weapon.

Too bad one is a battle rifle, and the other a machine gun. Neither is an actual assault rifle.

For a soldier Revenant is obviously the best, so the rest are only useful until the collector ship. For squadmates, i like the vindicator a lot, it has great damage and fires in burst.
This makes squad members take cover more frequently and don´t stand there shooting for too long and getting blasted, also, squadmates have infinite ammo so they have no problem with the vindicator.
For other classes, i like either the vindicator or collector assault rifle. I´ve tried both of them and they are both very good and accurate, the main difference is that the vindicator does more damage, fire in bursts and have less ammo. The collector assault rifle is more like the starting assault rifle but improved. The geth pulse rifle i have used little, and frankly don´t see much use other than to replace your assault rifle when you are doing missions with geth. I like giving it to Legion for roleplay reasons and it helps him do more damage on his loyalty quest.

I prefer the Vindicator myself as I like the high accuracy and damage plus I like taking cover, fire of a burst or 2 and getting back into cover. The Vindicator suits that style the best IMO.

Best AR, of course this is based on the person. I lack precision due to my terrible shooting skills. I am very much pray'n'spray type of guy.
For me:
Revy
Avenger
Geth AR
Vindicator
I do not mind the Vindicator so much on a Soldier though. It still does not top the Revy though, for me

When I first played an adept I liked the GPR. Now I generaly go with the Vindicator. I haven't played a soldier yet because I prefer biotic classes.

The Revenant is a beast, when you get the accuracy upgrade you can fire is accurately (funny that) and without recoil in AR mode. It's got a ridiculous amount of ammo and can strip defenses like you wouldn't believe. It makes the IFF mission a breeze. if you're playing soldier and you like assault rifles get the revenant.

Hard question. I rarely play Soldier (only once) so it's usually between the Vindicator and the Geth Rifle since I don't have the Collector's Edition. And I don't know which is better. With Warp Ammo or Incendiary Ammo the Geth Rifle seems to kick major butt but the headshots/DPS that the Vindicator gives you....just...can't ever decide which is better.
And I can't even get close to deciding which I prefer my squadmates to use.

The Geth Pulse Rifle is more of a sub machine gun than an assault rifle. The only reason to use it is on shield/barrier heavy missions, but the fact is there are better options even in those scenarios. It's just a weak overall assault rifle, both in damage and against armored enemies, which are widespread.
The collector assault rifle, for people that have it, is just a more powerful avenger. For the ammo cap it has (280) you will run out of it fast because it takes a lot of shots to down anything above minion level on hardcore/insanity. It has no recoil as opposed to the avenger, but every time you're in adrenaline rush recoil becomes a non-factor anyway.
Fact is, the Vindicator and the Revenant are the only real options as a general purpose, primary weapon option assault rifle. The difference really comes down to whether you want to play a defensive/attrition style combat doctrine, or an aggressive, suppressing combat doctrine.
If you take the Vindicator, you want Heightened Adrenaline Rush & Commando, so you can add as much damage bonus as you can to the weapon damage when you pop out of cover to hit those head shots.
If you take the Revenant, you want Hardened Adrenaline Rush, Shock Trooper and generally as much health bonus as you can get, because you're going to be exposed from cover a lot, laying down near constant suppressing fire with that rifle.
Personally, I think the Vindicator is the best overall assault rifle in the game. If you can mitigate it's comparatively low ammo cap, than you can literally play through the entire game with that weapon and the right ammo for the situation.

I'd say the Vindicator is definitely an assault rifle. Mainly because the term "battle rifle" is a bit contrived and I can't think of any military presence that actually classifies weapons in that way. To be honest it's a term that gamers probably use more than anyone.
