Game will not recognise installed DLC

I have played the game with no problems in at least one full playthrough, but when I tried to install the Kasumi DLC, it appeared to install but there was no sign of it in game. In an attempt to fix it, I did a number of things including a full uninstall of the game.

Now I've reinstalled the game, and reinstalled the DLC, but although I had no problems in the install process, NONE of it is recognised. It doesn't complain that it's not validated, it's just NOT THERE. The files are there, I can see them in the installed directory, but the DLC just isn't part of the game, to the point where I cannot access my saved games any longer, because they all have Zaeed and the Hammerhead associated with them, and the game thinks they're not installed. THEY ARE..

I've tried logged in to cerberus and logged out. I've tried patched and unpatched. It simply won't load the game with the DLC. My computer is Vista 64, non-steam version. I am out of ideas, I have a game I can only play from the start, without any of the DLC that I've PAID for.

I'm pretty pissed off right now. I was looking forward to a weekend where I could enjoy the Kasumi DLC and now I've my entire game and I have have to deal with this crap. :(

If it helps, my windows drive is C: while my games drive is D:

I can't change this, C: doesn't have the room for ME2. Nor should I have to.

I found this little gem on the EA help site:

------------------------------------
You will notice that if you have not run the game before, none of the content will load. This is because you have not yet authenticated yourself in the game. This needs to be done at least once. You can authenticate yourself by logging into the game with the same details used to login and download content.
----------------------------------------

This certainly sounds like my problem, except I've been logging into EA/Cerberus just fine without any complaints all day. SO either the game is lying to me and not really logging me in, or the DLC has somehow become unassociated with my account, neither of which makes any sense.

I don't have any sure solutions. If no one else does, I'd suggest re-naming BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini in My Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Config - just add an extra extension on to the end so the game doesn't recognize it. If this is indeed where the activations are stored, as implied by the name, maybe this will flush it out and force the game to start over.

I've already installed the game from scratch, with all the personal profile settings and saved games deleted. It didn't have any effect with a fresh install then, so I didn't think your solution would have any effect either.

Tried it though, and when I ran the game it said it could not verify the Kasumi DLC - it found it at least. So I logged into cerberus and sure enough, Kasumi is now working.

None of the other DLC is though, it's all remaining unfound, so I still can't load my (restored) saved games. I'm going to try running all the installers again.

I think the BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini is a red herring. I deleted it again and all it asked for was a re-verification of Kasumi. It's not even trying to verify the rest of the DLC.

I'm happy to report I've solved my problem!

Basically the installer method they use loaded the kasumi installer into memory, but didn't unload it. So when I ran any other DLC installer, it would just reinstall Kasumi in its place, every time, no matter what executable I ran. I found the offending executable, DLC_installer.exe in task manager and terminated the bastard. Then the next time I ran the Hammerhead DLC, it extracted the correct pack.

This happened despite my restarting my computer and reinstalling every time. It would appear each time I ran the installer for the first time after a restart, it would install one DLC, and then just reinstall the same DLC every time. I must have thought no DLC was installing earlier because it kept installing something very subtle like the arc projector (it begins with A, so I probably installed it first. I was just lucky to install kasumi first the last time or I'd never have figured it out).

Anyway, 2 thoughts I'd like to leave behind for any support staff that may read this:

1. Your installer SUCKS. Seriously. Extracting the same executable no matter which one I run? Come on! I'm facepalming here. It'd be funny if it wasn't so embarrasing. My computer has a hand in it for not unloading the extractor properly, but there's no way it should be able to install kasumi if I don't touch the kasumi executable.

2. Hopefully this will help anyone else who has the same problem. Really, if I can save someone the same frustration I've just endured, I'll believe it's been worthwhile. I hope I've kept my explanations clear.

I'm off to continue my game now. Good luck with your support issues, everyone. :P

If the installer is prepped by EA, why am I not suprised?

Ah well, was the only thing that came to mind. If you'd told it to delete your configuration on uninstallation, I imagine that had already cleared it.

That's one hell of a bug, especially that the process somehow gets itself running again after a reboot!

Dont really understand how you can terminate the installer process and still be able to install. Is it just a downoad order issue? Only the first dowloaded DLC works?
