Dwarfs in this game ****** me off. What’s the deal with all the dwarfs in this game using Long swords.
 
Really, Long swords. I understand you’re trying to make your own lore but come on. This is something that should not be changed. Dwarfs live underground. They have no use for swords. Hammers and axes yes but not swords. I always play dwarfs in RTS and in PnP DnD. And I must admit this alone almost caused me to quit this game. Also the fact that I got kicked out of my home town and my father gives me a sword, REALLY A SWORD! Were the hell is the family legacy hammer that my ancestors used to smite some old school evil. Nope they all used swords because everyone else in the world uses swords.
 
I want a Dwarf using a freaking battle hammer and a large steel shield. But yet I’m forced into using a sword and shield. Where are all the other types of weapons? I have yet to see a battle hammer, hammer, maul, mace, axe, or morning stars drop or be sold I have yet to see any 2h axes, or hammers either. Why are we forced into using swords as a dwarf?

Lool... there are plenty of two handed mauls and axes .. Dalish 2h axe is awseome looking. You have to search around for the items. There are many many shops each carying just a fraction of gear.

Axes, maces, mauls and hammers should be on EVERY merchant in the dwarf town. I should not start with a sword I should start with a hammer. My father should not give me a sword but a hammer or an Axe.

I concur on your thoughts about axes bing in every dwarf shop ect.. but hey..

Hey, as long as it gets the job done.

But yes, it's a bit different from the usual but that was the objective. The Dwarves don't have a scottish accent either. I have seen a dwarven axe tho. A dwarf merchant in Denerim has it for sale.

Oy! This is a FANTASY game. If the writers want their dwarves to be able to use swords thats fine. IN FACT, if you play both NwN's the dwarves there can use swords there as well

They live underground; why would they have ever developed axes? Military picks, on the other hand, should be more prevalent in dwarven arms.

Warriors have never had weapon restrictions regardless of race in D&D or any fantasy game I've played. Most went with a big axe, because it did more damage, but using a 2 handed sword was an option as well.

The first book The Hobbit (Lord of the rings ) is the blueprint for this type of world.

Although you can't have been looking very hard if you haven't seen the maces, axes, and other weapon types. There's loads of them.

In DnD lore from DnDv1 dwarfs had a racial bonus to axes and hammers. Axes need to cut the wood to fuel the fire’s, Axe's cut the wood needed to support a mining tunnel until the dwarfs could work the stone to make it stable
I don’t mean dwarfs shouldn’t be able to use swords. Just in DnD no dwarf would be caught dead using a sword as a primary weapon.

And like I said I understand that there trying to make their own lore aside from DnD rules and such. But this is the core of the dwarf race living under ground working the stone and the best crafters in the world. Lord Of the Rings has nothing to do with this discussion because like I said in my first post that I played PnP DnD since V1.

Axes are extremely useful also. So are hammers, so are arrows, so are shields, and armor what’s your point?

I’ve checked every vender iv come across and have yet to see an axe or hammer. (Other than the starting mace in my inventory)

I would think that Dwarves would develop axes and hammers as utilitarian tools. Swords are just better for killing people. There is a reason throughout history swords in various shapes and sizes are prevalent as weapons.



One would think that dwarves, being the smart little buggers that they are would always want to be using the best tool for the job. That means picks and hammers for mining, swords for killing.

SIde note. The dwarf noble story line was awesome. But would have been even better if they had HAMMERS OR AXES AND NOT SWORDS!
