hey don't yell at me, I didn't make that up. Go read the D&D hand books. He’ll Go read a book about Drizzrt and the dwarf king in that book uses an axe and all his sholders use hammers and axes. And in D&D dwarfs are masters of creating war machines that are made of.. yes you guess it, wood.

But like others have said this is not D&D and people should not compare dwarfs in this game to dwarfs from D&D.

So I should praise them for changing my favorite race from D&D. Or should i praise them for making a good game?

I’m going take a stab in the dark here and say you have never played D&D, ill even go one further and say you have never even read the player hand book and or know what it is.

Really, Long swords. I understand you’re trying to make your own lore but come on. This is something that should not be changed. Dwarfs live underground. They have no use for swords. Hammers and axes yes but not swords. I always play dwarfs in RTS and in PnP DnD. And I must admit this alone almost caused me to quit this game. Also the fact that I got kicked out of my home town and my father gives me a sword, REALLY A SWORD! Were the hell is the family legacy hammer that my ancestors used to smite some old school evil. Nope they all used swords because everyone else in the world uses swords.
 
I want a Dwarf using a freaking battle hammer and a large steel shield. But yet I’m forced into using a sword and shield. Where are all the other types of weapons? I have yet to see a battle hammer, hammer, maul, mace, axe, or morning stars drop or be sold I have yet to see any 2h axes, or hammers either. Why are we forced into using swords as a dwarf?

?So do you think that mexicans only eat tacos? What the hell? You're stupid/joking right? Nobody ever said Dwarves HAD to use axes. I don't see why they would have no use for a sword. They're pretty big on killing eachother. With your logic, why would humans need axes?

I don't understand why dwarves wouldn't be allowed to use a sword. It's a weapon to kill things with and dwarves kill stuff the same as any other race. It's like saying Native Americans could only use tomahawks when they fight people who are using guns.

This game is really dragging them out of the trenches. Somebody really needs to compile a list of stupid complaints and put them in a thread, or at least somebody at the bioware office should put this up on a white board. I know I would get a kick out of it.

According to norse mythology (where fantasy dwarves originate from), dwarves were master smiths and made all kinds of weapons and jewelry, including swords. So if DnD had dwarves only use axes and hammers, should we be pissed that DnD doesn't follow true lore?

Though I had an interesting and unrelated thought...why do dwarves even need axes period? Cutting wood? Why? Well...maybe, but in most lore dwarf-kind have delved deep enough they can have *Dr Evil voice* LIQUID MAGMA as a perfect natural furnace. I can't think of any modern representation of a dwarf capital that doesn't have plenty of flowing red goo-rock. So...why would they care about axes? The axe never made for a good weapon in war (real life history) compared to any alternatives (not defensible like a same sized sword, not as hefty as a same sized hammer, not good for thrusting like a same sized pole arm) so other then arbitrary creators rules, why an axe? Hammers, mauls, maces, all no question but not axes.

Ok then, back to the question. Dwarfs and swords why? Dwarfs are master smiths, historically the sword is the pinnicle of a smiths skill. However dwarven beserking draws strong lines to celtic and norse cultures. Thus the often used scottish accent, the massive manly beards, and the axes. It seems to me a matter of preference, as there are arguments both ways. The idea that dwarves must have humungous axes and hammers is either fanatical habitualism, or over compensation.

Does the box say "D&D" anywhere on it, you moron? I've been playing fantasy games for years, I'm familiar with the popular lore of dwarves. This game doesn't follow them, and that's a GOOD thing. Idiots like you are what is killing fantasy roleplaying as a hobby by refusing to get anything new gain a foothold. Please, walk into some traffic, or go play with knives. Preferably sharp ones.

I totally agree with OP ... I did some quest for some dwarf lady and she gives me a "masterpiece" shield that sucked. Then I did another quest for a dwarf and got a hammer that sucked. Then I do this huge favor for a giant blacksmith dude and he gives me something that sucked (or maybe it was nothing, I forget). You can't be throwing around the word "masterpiece" and handing out stuff that sucks. Come on.

If you're so familiar with D&D you would know that in D&D lore and game dwarfs use hammer and axes Hammers are the favoried items of their god. Every one who says im stupid is just as stupid. I merly stated that the dwarves in this game ****** me off due to the fact im used to D&D lore.
