Do you? When? When he asks if you have a future together? I don't recall marriage ever coming up.

I don´t remember anymore if you especially say "I´ll marry you!" but I think saying that you will stay with him forever - and he approves of that - means you don´t force anything on him. And I think you can talk about marrying him before the Landsmeet.

If the subject of marriage could come up he wouldn't be so shocked about the engagement although you can have the option of saying something like 'I won't let you go' which could imply eventual marriage.
