to start off, i am about finished with my 2h warrior tank playthrough and is deciding between a cunning rogue runnign dual haste or an arcane warrior.
i would prefer build the arcane warrior as more of a caster type, since i dont really want to tank with it as i have tanked a whole game with my dwarf already. so the question is how would i build my arcane warrior like gear and weapon wise?
what i want to do is dual wield a set or something? and the other set i would have a staff to cast,
casting to do damage or cc then run in and bash stuff once mana runs low or mobs get close,
gear wise i was thinking something along evons + wade and the rest i dont really know, maybe a the mag lord stick / spell weave + some dagger? like to maybe incorporate haste for double haste spammage? help is much appreciated
EDIT: forgot to say i dont really want to heal much so probably have wynne to just be perma healer person and also if you could answer, does the arcane warrior fade shroud mana regen work without having combat magic active?
edit again, arcane warriors can backstab like rogues? or is backstabs a rogue only thing

If I understand you correctly, you want to make a caster that mostly casts spells but wears heavy armor for looks and defense?
I wouldn't stress about wearing armor early on, but when you get them wade's/evon's is definitely a good choice. Just go for armor that grants stamina/regen. For weapons, I would stick with the staff, mostly. You might get a weapon with stamina on it like chasind great maul or nug crusher if you have dlc. I'm pretty sure you could start the fight with the maul for the bonus mana, and then after you spend it, switch to a staff for the spellpower... free mana. I think. I've never tried that.
If what you want to do is hit stuff with a sword as a mage, I don't have much help for you except to say you'll want some dexterity to get your attack rating up.
No, you can't backstab. You will get an attack bonus if you're flanking, though.

@Simz-If you're playing a AW caster, with Wynne as a healer:
- Try to find gear that has +mana regen, or armor with +stamina regen (which turns into +mana regen on a mage). Until RtO came out, the best combo was usually working towards the low-drop-rate shield you get from Gaxkang (Fade Wall) and adding any decent 1H sword. Now it's Cailan's Arms.

i was more thinking along DW + combat magic + double haste + miasma + weapon enchants stabbing after i've casted spells to blow apart the ranged and mage sorta thing, since i pretty much play by only using my own character and set the companions running on tactics only. so my question is is dual dagger stronger or sword dagger?
pretty much so i can vary the gameplay a bit instead of just spamming blizzard / coc fireballs and tempest

Whoa, whoa whoa, folks. I didn't intend for this forum to be a public polling scene. This is meant for me to give the single person my opinion. Trying to steal my ideas... how dare you! No, I love you. Next time, please let me answer the questions, mmk? I'll answer your question Simz in a moment.

Now, Simz, since you seem to already have your AW covered, I'll go ahead and give you the low-down on your rogue situation. This all depends on your preference, but I have a few suggestions for you.
The first is to make your Rogue an Assassin. This would be your rogue you use to go invisible, backstab, stun, and decimate. Now, your strength attribute should never go above 20 unless it's because of a modifier or the mage tower. Get this early on because Dragonskin can pop up in the blink of an eye. With that said, you should only wear light armor. Preferably, you would want to go for The Felon's Coat (Wade after 2-3 treaties), Bards Dancing Shoes, Pushback Strikers/Gloves of Guile/Red Jenny Seekers, and a helm if you wish it. For weapons, you will only, I reapeat, ONLY use daggers. They feed of of your Dexterity, so you've got no problems. Well, the only problem is you should definitely get Lethality so instead of using the Strength modifier, you use the Cunning instead. I have found that a Crow Dagger, and Olaf's Prized Cheese Knife work wonders. However, the Cheese Knife is DLC for The Stone Prisoner. Now, for your talents/skills, I would suggest getting every single Rogue ability, save for one; Feign Death. To be honest, it only buys you a few extra moments of life if you really need to use it. The others you would want to get are the first 3 dual-weapon skills on the 1st branch to up your Dual-Wielding, and the first 3 on the 3rd branch. Dual Weapon Sweep, Flurry and Momentum are quite useful in sticky situations. With momentum, you've got the fastest DPS in the game, bar none. With all of the stealth skills, you can disappear in battle and appear somewhere else, which is a blessing. Being able to backstab anybody during a fight is a top priority for the Dexterity/Cunning rogue. Now, I know Momentum takes down a large chunk of your Stamina, but luckily for you, you shouldn't be using much stamina as it is. Mainly Dirty Fighting, Stealth and Mark of Death. Invest in that one, if nothing else. Why else would I call it an assassin? Now, on to another rogue type.
This is the kind of rogue I used the first time, and by God it was fantastic. I chose a rogue, but because I already know where everything is, I immediately turned him into a Warrior... that can backstab. I gave him Wade's Dragonskin Armor (Splintmail look), The Veshialle and The Rose's Thorn. By the way, I had no knowledge of the money glitch prior to finishing this character. My secret? Sell Mana potions. I never used them, I'm a rogue, and all Morrigan does is gank your kills. Besides the basic armor, I also gave him the Executioners Helm to up his Stamina +25. As you can imagine, the skills I got were... all of the Dual-Wielding skills. I ended up using a dagger, but at the time 2 axes made a hell of a difference. I ended up with around 50 strength, but because I downed everything in 5 seconds I didn't need to worry about anything else. I can't tell you exactly how to spend your points, but I did mine like a computer would. From highest priority to lowest, and dumped the same amount of points until I didn't need to anymore, and focused on the others. Needless to say, a Warrior/Rogue hybrid is a terror. Being able to stun somebody, backstab them for a 70 and continue on to the next guy was amazing. I also had Rapid Fire because my secondary was a bow; the Mage's Eye. Very handy for taking out that pesky High Dragon by the Urn.
Now, if there are any other questions?

Nice rogue guide. What I usually don't get is Evasion. I hear it is overrated. What are your thoughts?

Can you help me with tactics for a warrior. I find it so confusing with all the shield things ..(shield bash. pommel etc) that i simply don't know what to do with them.
Ex: Condition>self>surrounded by>3 enemies> shield?

This answer is for keesio74. Now I know what you might think about Evasion, but to be honest, it's save me a lot being the sneaky bastard I currently am. Evasion is simply this; when you get attacked, your character deflects the attack of of their weapon, and it takes literally a second. Then you can keep shelling out backstabs and stuns and kicks to the groin. Trust me, if you want to see my current rogue character, Aedan, look it up in my profile for the stuff I have.

This one is for MistySun. I know Warrior talents are confusing sometimes with the Weapon/Shield and Two-Handers. I can honestly say it depends on your character. Are you going for Shields? If so... well, shields are confusing. Never worry about tactics for yourself, because you should only use them unless you die and are forced to switch. It's probably for the best interest for you to get every skill, that way you can play with it for yourself. I honestly have found it wonderful to pummel the crap out of every enemy I come across and end the battle with absolutely zero stamina. If want want a good set of armor for your character, go for every piece of the Armor of the Legion, including the shield (all in Deep Roads/Ruck), and get Topsiders Honor (Deep Roads), or some other Dragonbone sword of awesomeness.

Evasion can lock you in a dodge animation that interrupts your attacks... this can actually be more a hindrance than help. A high dex rogue doesn't get hit easily, then your only concern is grab/overwhelm/magic.

Kastlefeer, I'm sorry but I don't need a helpful input from you. They asked me, not you, and so I gave them my opinion. If you wish to do the same, maybe you should make your own advice thread.
I love you, have a nice day.

So you rented this space on the forums? How much is the going rate for a thread on these forums? It's nice of you to let mere mortals near your awesomeness.
So if someone dares to come to YOUR thread to help people, you are going to do what exactly? Pray tell.
Priceless, this made my day.

Well, since you asked, I might as well tell you.
Nothing. I made this thread for people to ask MY advice. You can answer peoples questions if they ask it on the board, or in other peoples threads and things of the like. However, it's the lack of respect that bothers me. I made the thread to give people my insight if they asked, not for others to barge in and give advice that, I may or may not have used myself, I do not necessarily want in the thread.
You see, kayapo, I can't do a damned thing about you or those other rapscallions posting in this thread. Though, it does make you a douchebag for interrupting. I didn't ask for your help, nor do I need it. So keep your condescending comments to yourself.
Oh, and on a final note, I don't think I'm awesome, why are you calling them "mere mortals"? Aren't we all? Or are you a false God who wants to take over the world, one douchebag forum comment after another?

Question 1 - Is it possible to build a effective Shapeshifter/Blood Mage Warden and how you would do it?
Question 2 - Am I crazy for playing a Two hand wielding Str based rogue Duelest/Ranger spec? lol
