I made use of him to me and my party, he is Rogue after all, lool.
Although he didn't agree much to it... and because i lost Mahiri, i needed a 4th party member.
I have now a Dwarven Tank, a Mage, and Nathaniel as Rogue. I'm a Warrior...
What did you do with him?
Thanx
Nathaniel Owe

And the 2nd time (as Human Noble) I killed him...

I recruited him on my Orlesian Warden playthrough (since I didn't have any history with the Howes). He is actually not a bad character, I just think they needed to have a better way of introducing him to the story. The way it is now does not exactly encourage you to recruit him.

He is quite a deep character. He starts out with this small-boy-hero-worship thing about his father. As he learns more about what really went on, he is forced to change his attitude. When he finally does accept that the truth is different to what he thinks thne he becomes a better person.
I thought I'd abandon him quickly but in the end I kept him for almost the entire game.
Kudos to the writers.

My human noble is not about to condem someone for the actions of others. I like him, he turns out to be a good guy, his banter with Velanna alone is enough to have him in my group.

As a Warrior, he's the only Rogue I have until I pick up Sigrun. He therefore gets a spot in my party until I pick her up, at which point I'll have to decide who to take.
As for using him, I just make him an Auto-attacking Crit machine. Split him evenly between Dexterity and Cunning, give him Bard/Legionnaire Scout/Assassin. Bard is for Song of Courage, Legionnaire Scout is for Mark of Stone (saves 10 points you would have had to put into Strength for your Armor), and Assassin is for the bonus just for being an Assassin.
Basically, all you do is have Nathaniel have Song of Courage, Accuracy, and Weak Points active at all times, then let him auto-attack everything. You could throw Aim on there, but the reduction to attack speed isn't really worth it. Throw in a Pinning Shot to deal with Enemy Mage's, and you can pretty much leave him on his own.

I love making Nate a bard. Heh.
He makes a brill archer, so I brought him out most of the time.

Edit: Not that you made a statement or anything, really. But I did the same thing because he is an awesome character which was a surprise.

My original plan was to kill him but in the end mercy stayed my hand. He then (as others have said) became my favourite character. I used him as an supporting archer and obviously to open all those locked chests.

I'm honestly disappointed in the lack of choice for Rogues in general. If you're controlling them, then they can go Dual Wield or Archer, but if you're not controlling them (which I don't, unless I need to open a locked chest), then the only viable choice is Archer. Oh, you can have them Dual Wield, but they will never actually try to move to a backstab position, and will therefore loose a large chunk of their damage output. It's very disappointing.

I generally have him in my Party. I make him dual wield more often than not although he does make a better archer.

Most of my playthroughs are as female human nobles. When Nathaniel was first introduced, my sheer curiosity of it all kept me from executing him. I really figured he was going to be a dark/evil character, but I was totally surprised at how much of a goodie-goodie he turned out to be. The first time I did something good with him in my party I was shocked that he approved!
He is one heck of an archer, too, so I keep him as one. Normally I give him the specializations of what he introduced himself as: an assassin/ranger/shadow. I never thought to make him a bard, lol, that just seems...weird.
And yes, kudos to whoever at Bioware created Nathaniel. He is a most interesting character.

Quite so...he is a bloody killing machine.
I make him an Assassin/Legionnaire Scout/ Ranger ( for the pets ). He is incredible as a steady damage dealer.

Well, I just did the numbers. There's no point in making him a Bard. Making him a DEX-based Archer is better. With 50 Cunning and Song of Courage, an Archer gets +7% to their Ranged Crit Chance. With Accuracy and 50 Dexterity, they get +20% Ranged Crit Chance. The numbers for an Archer are far better for a Dexterity based Archer. I'd therefore scrap the Bard spec and make him a Legionnaire Scout/Duelist/Shadow. All three give bonuses to Dexterity just for taking them. In addition:
* Legionnaire Scout has Mark of Stone (excellent for armor equipment requirements) and Endure Hardship (not going to be using that Stamina anyway)
* Shadow actually has nothing amazingly useful for an Archer, but the bonuses just for being one are very solid.
* Duelist has Dueling, making his shots more likely to hit. It also has Keen Defense, increasing his already high Defense even further, so he's going to be very hard to hit.

The next time I play I'll respec him and include Legionnaire Scout to see what it's like. I was thinking that the more potent moves like Arrow of Slaying required a lot of stamina, but I could be wrong.

I was really surprised by the way he turned out. When i first saw that a Howe was a character I was like "Oh, **** that. Definitely not happening." Then I just role played the scene out how my character would and he ended up in my party for (almost) the entire game. He ended up being a great character, and assuming you built him as an archer, he had some amazing damage too. By the end of my first play-through he was at about 60+ dex and 97 cunning. He was hitting for 120+ consistently with rapid aim on. I recall seeing an arrow of slaying connect for 851. He's amazing for killing mages while the rest of your party is engaged.
