Glad to see others appreciate Waits too. :P

I've heard a few Yo La Tengo songs, but haven't yet really looked into them more deeply. Didn't they do something with Daniel Johnston?

Haven't heard The Dirty Three before, but that was interesting. Have to look into the band.

Have you listened to the Tinhat Trio? They do mostly instrumentals, but often have visiting artists doing vocals on songs, and Karla Kihlstedt, the violinist, is also an excellent vocalist.

Here's one instrumental example: Tin Hat Trio - Fire Of Ada

I'm not familiar with the Tinhat Trio, but I like that song.  I'll have to give them a look.

My favorite Dirty Three albums are Whatever You Love, You Are, on which this song is found, and Ocean Songs, which features the song they do in that other video I posted.

Some instrumental favorites of mine from Yo La Tengo include Green Arrow (there's a version called Blue-Green Arrow on an outtakes and rarities album that I like even more), I Heard You Looking, and the more recent Daphnia.  They have also written original music for a number of films, including Shortbus, Junebug, and Old Joy.

Regarding Daniel Johnston, I know they have covered his song Speeding Motorcycle on record and sometimes play it live (they played it when I saw them a few years ago).  It's possible that they have also done some sort of collaboration, although I'm not sure.

Also, you've reminded me-- Tom Waits' frequent collaborator Marc Ribot is probably my favorite guitarist in the world, and I like some of his own instrumental music quite a lot as well!

And for the heck of it, Johannes Brahms - Hungarian Dances No. 5

And all the instrumental music from Fallout 3's GNR. ^_^

Hard to say... I don't really listen to a lot of instrumental stuff, but pretty much anything instrumental by Download (which is most of his stuff), but as far as classical goes, probably The Planets by Holst.
