Hi. First time posting, and first time trying a DA mod so try not to be too harsh on me.

As the title states, the custom class I created isn't appearing.

I followed the tutorial here, just diverging where necessary.

The only places I changed from the tutorial was
i) Swtiched the 'Shaman' class name to my custom class name
ii) Changed the Dwarf Noble/Human Noble to Dalish Elf/Elf Mage/Human Mage as able to pick my custom class
iii) I couldn't get the command line to work, so I just drag and dropped the .xls onto the ExcelProcessor, and moved the .gdas into the module\\override folder
iv) The last step "Putting it all together", confused me. Because when I checked the tab I couldn't see any 'Export without dependant resources", just the other three. I only had the script editor open at that time.

Does anybody have any ideas where I might have gone wrong? Or should I start from scratch?

which files have you exported? you must export all scripts you have modified as well as the creature resource(s). All your GDAs must be in your override. Also, are you sure you've done the number crunch correctly, since this will cause your class not to appear. By the number crunch i refer to the formula which generates the "unique" number for your race/class/background. Assuming your class is also ID 4, then Elf(2)/class(4)/Dalish(01) would come out at 2401. (I think!)

The system requires a great deal of care since any one of many incorrect/missing entries will cause your race not to appear. I have had very mixed succses (better described as mixed failure) with the chargen system and new races... so im afraid if youve been careful and still have issues then I don't know what to suggest.

Another thing that I've noticed is that you may need to cheat a bit on the gda files; I had a similar problem and what I ended up doing is renumbering row ids 4-25 in the CLA_base worksheet and just putting the added row by itself in your new worksheet. This should make the added class consistently show up when making characters with that class.

@mikemike37

Yeah, I'm pretty certain I got the numbers right, and they correspond with yours so it's definitely right. I'll try re-exporting everything again.

@ladydesire

I don't really get what you mean by renumbering the row ids. You mean stripping them out and just leaving the custom class in its own row?

i think ladydesire suggests making two changes: change the original file (CLA_data) so that you leave an empty slot for ID 4... then in your new sheet (CLA_data_myrace) have a single row with ID 4.

This is interesting that you had to do this. I will see if it makes a difference to what we've been trying. thanks!

Okay, I tried re-exporting everything again.

Then I tried what you suggested ladydesire. I edited the original CLA_data to have a blank row, and numbered it 4 in the int row. Then I changed my own CLA_data sheet to have nothing but my custom class, also numbered 4. It still didn't work.

So I changed back my CLA_data and tried renumbering all the rows so that the numbers match up. I'm not sure if that was what solved it, but I can see my class now, when making a new character.

I just can't choose it, no matter what I do. It's supposed to be an Elf/Human, so I click human, but the icon doesn't light up like the three stock ones. Am I missing something here?

I re-calculated the numbers, and their right. I'm really clueless as to what I did wrong now.

-edit-
The labels in the background_defaults aren't affecting it, are they?

i must admit I came across essentially the same issue as yourself, tacticus, and in the end put it on hold.... it seems really really really quirky. Can I suggest you download ladydesire's Tevinter Warden class mod and see what her values were (you can use GDApp to view the GDA's much more nicely)

I dont know if backgrounds_defaults affect the selectability of it, so to speak. maybe?

http://social.bioware.com/project/755/ - GDApp (says its in development but many people have used it for months without issues)

Hmm. I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not. The labels don't seem to be the problem ...

Quick summary of what I did thus far.

I dl'd the Tevinter Warden mod, and had a peek, but whatever ladydesire did to make her custom class work isn't working for me. I changed all references to my custom class to a single word, and corrected the scripts to use the same word.

And I still can't get the mod to work. I've got an idea though, so I'm gonna give it a shot ...

Well, I'm stuck, to be honest. So I'm just sitting down and writing it all out on paper to see if I can figure what I missed.

one of the guys on our project is currently going over the character generation stuff. We're replacing classes (rather than adding a fourth) and its a standalone mod (so we're able to overwrite more than you'd want to do for an OC addin), but if he stumbles across anything obvious, ill let you know.

Thanks. It'll help alot if I had something else to refer to alongside with ladydesire's Warden.

Point of interest;

It seems that with this custom mod of mine active, and Awakenings installed, it creates some interesting issues.

Creating a new character shows an additional 'Dalish Elf' background when creating a new Awakening character. Obviously this is wrong, as selecting it shows no description.

Not very sure what this means exactly, and to be truthful, Awakenings is distracting me greatly atm.

You need to place your gda files in the module/override folder of your addin instead of the core/override if you only want it to show up in your module.
