Is it possible to not kill the kid int eh basement. The cat said help me get out of the cat and possess the kid and I said no and then the cat possessed the kid???
So I killed her.

The only way I think you can save the kid is to agree to help the demon escape by solving a puzzle... but if memory serves me right (I semi-watched someone's playthrough) she possesses the kid anyway... so yeah, I don't know. Heh.

...or with high enough coercion, you can lie to the demon about wanting to help him, solve the puzzle for him but attack him anyway. The kid lives, everyone is happy

I did it without lieing to the demon, though it took me a couple tries. The first time through I saved right before I entered the room (Hmm, magical barrier on the door, maybe I should save), talked to the demon, tried to lie to it so it would let the girl go but it didn't believe me so it possessed the kid and I killed it. I reloaded and agreed to let it out if it let the kid go, pissed off Alistair but I solved the puzzle then it possessed the girl anyway and left the room. Third try I didn't promise up front to release it but solved the puzzle, when the demon tried to change it's mind I told the girl to get out, she freaks out and leaves, the demon manifests and I toast it, all is right with the world. If I had better Persusion or higher Cunning my first try might have worked but I was able to get the job done anyway.

I tried it several times.
1) I agreed to help the demon named kitty (damn she was sexy) and let her possess the kid. Fun times, but I think the end result could have been a little bit more wicked. She sounded like of those neutered mages =/
2) I made a deal with her that I would let her go free if she let the kid go free. She agreed. The kid ran off and the demon thanked me.
3) I made a deal with her again, but this time i said i was not going to hold up my end of the bargain and attacked her.
none of the 3 were even really what i expected them to be, so in the end i went with 2.
Also, I hated her dad.
