I am personally very psyched for this. I'm always a little leery when I hear that someone is taking one of our games and making something with it (the PnP Dragon Age game, the Mass Effect comics from Dark Horse, etc), but I think it comes down to the quality of the people behind the product.
Legenday Pictures have made some great films in recent years. The Dark Knight, 300, Where the Wild Things Are, and Watchmen shows their respect and good treatment of the source material. This is not a studio that takes a property and turns it over quicky to try to make a fast buck. They put the time and talent into the production to make sure that it is an awesome experience.
Sure, it is still early days when it comes to film development. Now they start writing scripts, hiring a director, scouting locations, building sets, getting a crew ready, casting, filming, music, special effects, editing, etc and al the stuff that goes into making a movie. I actually had a friend on Facebook who said they were looking forward to seeing this during the summer NEXT YEAR! (which made me laugh). Still, I will be watching my favorite movie gossip websites to see how things develop.
They also did Ninja Assassin, which shows that they're not afraid to take risks, which I like.

The Bioware folks as producers is a good thing, (i guess) though making a movie is different than a game. Actually i think the game industry could learn a thing or two
Legendary Pictures is a good choice. They made overall good movies, (except the dark knight..in my opinion) i hope they come up with a fitting budget for this one.
We will see if Mark Protosevich will be good enough for screenwriting, i hope they will get someone else. His writing for The Cell was good, but when i think about I am Legend and Poseidon..ugh.
Anyway, it will take time before we see anything about it. But there is potential for an entertaining movie. I don´t expect something "epic".

However, if the movie is going be just a rehash of one of the games, then I hope it gets stuck in development hell and never gets made.
Please do something original within the universe, and don't just rehash the games.

We can always hope that the story will have nothing to do with the games' story (just like all other ME media, Revelation, Ascension, Retribution, Redemption, Galaxy) and that it will be set before, between or after the games

They really should have made Drew Karpyshyn or Mac Walters at least as a producer

Yeah, I hope to god this does not focus on the shep arc but instead the rachni wars, krogan uprising, or first contact war.

EDIT: Not to be a downer here, but executive producers don't have as much say in things as some might believe, so don't expect Casey to shut it down if they try to turn this into a quick money grab. I don't whink they (EP's) will have that much pull in the process. Not that I think Legendary will screw it up. Just sayn'.

Besides, if that was the setting we'd never see all those great sci-fi moments (like the Citadel)
I'd rather they focus on a lone alliance soldier and make the story personal, sort of like Blade Runner (though I'm not a big fan of that movie)

Chris, why check for news on some unreliable site when the people who are working on it (Greg, Ray and Casey) are only a few doors away from your office?
You'd be surprised how busy those guys are to just chat about movies with me.

Why do people think the First Contact War would be a great setting? It only lasted a few days and only a few people died

Just because the First Contact War is brief doesn't mean it can't make a decent movie length plot. There are such things as the setting, technology and character development which could easily fill the span of two and a half to three hours (if they take the high road).
I am hoping they won't try to just lift moments from the game series, using it as a storyboard. Sure, use it as a reference for a different story, but please don't let the filmmakers lift the plot and turn it into some cheap summer thrillride.
Why can't they focus on a lone Alliance soldier outside of the game series plotline? Hell, they could even make a story around Udina on the Citadel in his first years as a politician between the races and it might be good. Hopefully they'll follow a young Anderson as he's getting recruited as a potential Specter. For me, that would be a best case scenerio.
Many previous posts have mentioned how focusing the story around Shepard would be a big letdown to fans of the games, so I won't go into that.

If the movie doesn't have Reaper action, I probably won't be all that interested anyway. I don't want to watch Humans fighting Turians...BORING. Same goes for ME3 for that matter, if the Reapers don't get a chance to invade I'll be severely disappointed.

Well, as community manager or whatever it would be useful for them to keep you in the loop about the developments. Then you know what to deny when we eventually find it out ourselves.Chris Priestly wrote...

See a doctor about that Reaper fetish.
Some people are just allergic to villians with motivations aside from "We are the bad guys and will kill you all because some one has to"...

if it does not feature shepard at all, im good. I don't want a movie shepard ruining our game shepards.
I completely agree. I don't want some A hole like Vin Diesel ruining my Shepard for me. That's why I think this game will flop with the fans. However the game's blockbuster sci-fi plot could make this interesting for non-fans, I just think long time fans will feel awkward watching a "phoney " Shepard on-screen. I know I will.

So not EVERY game movie is terrible. It might be a small silver lining but it's there.
