Well that's terrible. Video game movies are always failures. Honestly I hope it never gets finished and gets cancelled.

With you all the way.

Please.
Don't ruin the ME universe with a MOVIE.
Both Mass Effect games are times better than any movie could ever be.EVER.

Please, Bioware.Please.Anything but that.

Beg all you like. Preistly said it would be good, so lets all start acting nice and agreeing how utterly awesome it will be.

I can envision it now: All Asari will be strippers, Shepard will be Caucasian and ripped, brimming with snarky comebacks, and blasting every alien in sight. The collectors will sound like Darth Vader and every other character will be a surreal CGI creation. Glorious.

 :wizard:

Win for EA, win for Bioware, win for the movie producers...what else matters? Drew Karpyshyn, eat yer freakin heart out. This will be the real Mass Effect experience.

Just
See here's the thing. Ever wonder why mass effect is such a great game?
Most would say because it's a great rpg and has one of the best storyline ever for a video game.

Now why is the story good?
Because it's immersive. Why is it immersive? Because we were there making every little decision for a 30+ hour experience.

Now imagine a 2 hour movie that has to include the following events:
-Introducing Shepard
-Battle of Eden Prime
---meeting kaiden and ashley
---introducing nihlus and saren
---vision of prothean artifact
-Report back to Council
---Fighting fist
---Finding evidence
-Meet 3 other team members
-Become a spectre
-Track down saren
---feros
---noveria
---therum
---virmire
---Illos
Final Battle

Even if you play through the game just doing the main plot it'd take you at least 15 hours (if you know what you're doing.)

Now squish that into 2-3 hours and say goodbye to immersion. Say goodbye to good storyline.

In a movie there are not 2 hour battles; the longest action sequence is probably be around 10-15 minutes and would be the final battle.

Then, I thik it would mostly be like:

-Introducing Shepard and a walk around the Normandy to see the crew (opening credits)
-Eden prime (with Alenko)
--meeting ashley
--Saren's treason (in no more than 15-20 minutes we should know the movie is about chasing Saren)
--Vision
-Citadel (like 25-30 min)
--Reporting the council
--Finding evidence (which leads to meet Tali, Garrus and Wrex)
--Becoming a Spectre
-Finding Liara (like 50-55 min)

(By this momment would have passed like an hour)

-Tracking Saren
--somehow like a video montage with just a image+music
--Virmire (knowing about the reapers)*
--One place with Benezia+cipher*
-Back to the Citadel
--Council (ast a fleet to illos)+Escaping the Citadel
-illos

(Two hours)

-Ending Battle divided in two
--Shepard's battle
--Normandy battle (with at least one or two of the characters with Joker)

*I choose that order because it's more coherent to talk the council right after  you know where wants Saren to go than wait for another planet.

You don't need too much action sequences (Eden Prime as an opening, Virmire and the Ending Battle as main ones, and little ones while finding Liara, meeting Benezia and in illos) and with a good character development (makes us care about Liara when she faces benezia, makes us care about the character who die, make us fear for their deaths in the ending battle). And they have to be very careful on the meetings so it makes sense for Wrex, Garrus and Tali to join the team.

You just have to take a look at the movie Serenity. The idea is similar; tracking down someone (just seen from the other side) until we discover what is all about (discovering the reapers and illos in ME case) and we go for the final confrontation.

In Serenity they also go to lots of places (7 different I remember) and the crew is large and they made us care about them (I spent the whole ending battle near the heart attack). And everything in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

With the correct people it can be done great. Now let's see if they choose the correct people...

Actually if you think about it, ME1 would make a excellent movie!

Eden (meet Sheppard, Kaiden, Ashley, and Saren)
Citidel (meet council then Garrus and Wrex and Tali)
go get Liara (talk about Proteans and Benezia, hint at Sheppard attraction)
go do Noveria (get boat load of info from Benezia and meet Rachni (set free) advance feeling between Liara and Sheppard)
Virmire (meet Soveriern(reaper) and first battle with Saren (loss Kaiden or Ashley)
Back to Citidel for grounding, dramatic break away to Ilos
romantic break with Sheppard and Liara
last 30 minutes and free for all on Ilos and then final battle after going through the portal

2.5 hour movie at most, fast paced. If they do 3 hours (which Iprefer my movies to be) they could add some of the cerberus side story stuff in.

Personally I'd have Ashley the main LI for the first movie only because of the dramtic impact and conflict it would have by movie number 3 if they do a trilogy.

Sacrifing of another teammate affecting her and the relationship
Liara having her infatuation with Shepard but unable to follow up on it.
Now Shepards death in second movie and its affect on both of them
Liara doing all she can to save Shepards body because of her love for him
vs Ashley and questioning Shepards loyalty because of Cerberus.

Now it leads into 3 with chance for a much bigger conflict of the two for Shepard affection.

I say Liara as Love interest for one reason only

She saves and goes outta her way to recapture Sheppard and hands him over to Cerberus inbetween ME1 and 2

That seems like alot of stuff to do if not the one true love

Which is why she SHOULDNT get to be with him in the first movie if its done that way. If true love comes easy its not good drama. Make Liara work for it and Shepard to have conflict over it.

I see where you coming from but that sounds like ALOT of storytime for a movie romance.

If this was a adult TV series (whcih I would love, HBO or Starz doing Adult Mass Effect TV series) I could see them developing and devoting the time needed for a storyline like that!

For a movie though, you gotta be more clean cut which means you go for the most logical and thats Liara cause of her devotion to Sheppard!

You can still have the questioning in ME2 by Ashley (if you dont kill her off) with out having the romance angle after all.

Your opinion, you're entitled to it. I can agree that a series would be a heck of a better option though than a movie in the long run.

Liara as a romance? No thanks.

Humans are more relatable than squid-headed aliens with weird reproductive biology. Besides, one can really mix up the regular "her always gets the girl" ending by having Shep fall for Ashley and then having to sacrifice her. No super-happy ending.

Tali as a romance, there shouldn't be any discussion about it.

The voice actor who did Garrus should play the movie character.

this movie is just another attempt for Bioware to market their products for revenue

what a shame. What happened to making video games for the sake of gaming

IGN Articale Here

"The producers behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man are  teaming for Mass Effect, a live-action, big screen adaptation of the Electronic Arts-BioWare  videogame."

"Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni have acquired the film rights to the game and will produce the movie along with former Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will serve as executive producers, as will Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson. Warner Bros. will distribute the film."

"the producers are in negotiations with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) about penning the script."

Mark Protosevich from I am Legend?? I mean can't we get a better screenwrtier.  How in the world was I am Legend a good movie? To me it was an awful movie and I never felt compelled to care for Will Smith.

Speaking of romances I don't think they would feature any since it would probably anger the fans on which side they take.

Any fan that gets *angry* because the movie doesnt match their personal playthrough needs to take a step back and really get a grip on reality. Get off the high horse, because nothing in their playthrough makes their choices any better than anyone else. The movie would be just a example of one of dozens of possible options.

I think Shepard needs a hanar as the love interest. And yes, Marlon Brando should still be the Normandy. They can just make him fly around with wires like in Hong Kong cinema flicks.

wtf?  Wikipedia's probably pulling a prank on us or something. Last I checked, Porn stars in general are only as good enough as their work asks them to.

Who knows, maybe this will be the next Snakes on a plane, or Attack of the Tomatoes. It'll be so bad, it's good.

Only because Uwe Boll makes most of them.

The only video game to movie adaptation that I have seen that is pretty good is the new Prince of Persia.

It doesn't matter which romance option they take, one is not better than the other.
