I always thought of Mass Effect as an independent game that only a few knew about. Then ME2 came out and took that away from me. Now they are making it a movie and it won't be that indie game that I was happy to own. A game that not that many people knew about.

i'll say this so that nobody else has to:

bioware, ray, greg, casey, if you have any love for your fans or your property, please make this good. it doesn't have to be great, just make it good.

here's to hoping for the best and expecting the worst. :)

No.

Could they make a good movie? Sure, why not. But I'm a pessimist and am going to cry now. If it sucks, I honestly don't think I'll look at ME the same again. :| Movies tend to ruin my image... Of everything.

What about Super Mario Bros?  Was that not an insanely awesome take on the video games?

:huh::mellow::(:?:lol:<_<:(

I wouldn't worry about it. Hollywood has the attention span of a two year old. As soon as something newer and shinier comes along, they'll forget all about Mass Effect.

I'm really afraid of what is most likely to happen.

It'll end up an abortion of an adaptation, much like the LotR movies.

Just my two cents, but what is the deal with this indie cred thing going on? Just because it's popular doesn't mean it sucks. Granted, a lot of things that suck are popular, but not everything popular sucks.

It's stupid how people try to conform to non-conformity. Suddenly when a good game becomes, omg no way, popular, the fans hate it because it isn't indie anymore? Bah.

Though I will add I do think Hollywood rapes anything it touches, but not because it makes things popular.

Oh, and it's good for BW if ME becomes popular. More monies = more games.

EDIT: It's like my Drow cleric. There are a million Drow who think they're the son of Drizzt. My DnD group gets flooded with them. But, I've never quit enjoying Drow. They may be an overplayed, overhyped race, but I love mine. I don't think I get "cool" points because she was born before everyone became obsessed with Drow, or whine about the "good old days" when Drow were that creepy race with BDSM fetishes.

If something becoming popular takes away your enjoyment of it... That's just... I'm sorry. So, so sorry.

I HATE the idea of a Mass Effect movie. If they have to do it, either

a) Make it not about Shepard. I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson's and Saren's story.

B) Make Shepard not have a romance. Not only because people are going to get annoyed that Ashley, Lirara, Miranda, Tali, or Jack are not Shepard's romance interest, but because I dislike needless romances in Hollywood movies in general. Can't we have an action hero without a romance interest?

I don't think independent games sell in the millions...

It seems like a good production team so far, and they have Ray, Greg and Casey very much involved in the project. Personally, I'll be happy even if they decide to base it directly off the games, I wouldn't find it any different from watching someone else's playthrough lol. And if anything, it will bring attention to the games, where newbies will be like: "I have choices?! WOW!"

Why do you hate the idea of a Mass Effect movie? Having a movie only validates video games as a serious credible art form. Video games are evolving and becoming the premiere source of electronic entertainment, so it's inevitable that other art forms are going to want to borrow the success. Besides, a movie will probably generate millions of dollars for Bioware, and they should be rewarded for the hard work they put in Mass Effect. :)

My two cents on the movie: it may be decent (though I'm reserving judgment there). It may even be good. But since they called it "a live-action, big screen adaptation of the Electronic Arts-BioWare videogame." I'm guessing it'll be about Shepard, which means that all the pains Bioware went to with the novels and the Redemption comics not to establish a canon goes right out the window, and guess what: I have no illusions that my version of Mass Effect will be enshrined in canon.

So, in short, I hate it already, even if they don't butcher my favorite characters the way LoTR butchered Faramir.

Excited to hear about the possibility of a Mass Effect Movie, although watching this made me realise something:
www.redlettermedia.com/nemesis.html

It makes me a little concerned though, alot of these things that make Star Trek: Nemesis so terrible are things that make games, and Mass Effect, so fun as a game.  I'm not saying that I think the ME movie will be bad, I'm just curious about what kinds of things will have to be done way differently to make a Mass Effect movie good as a movie, which require different things than what makes a game good.

The biggest fail is that they're going to get some hack to score the movie.

Aren't those the same guys behind the Sam Raimi Warcraft movie?

Anyways, the movie is pretty early on production, there is still hope for the proyect to be scrapped, or lost in development hell :wizard:

It's damn-near impossible that a movie can please the fans, specially if they try to make the movie about the main trilogy.

Neill Blomkamp would get my vote for director. Did a great job with District 9 and would have done the Halo movie if it ever got off the ground.

Spider 3 was complete horse ****. They completely destroyed Venom, my favorite character.

I highly doubt this movie will do the fans of the game justice.

Think: Resident Evil.

I know I know, diff companies...but yeah, movies based off of video games tend to fail in the eyes of the fans of the game....I guess the director wants to put the movie in their "own vision"

HEY JACKASS, play the game first, then make a movie. Or, just dont. You fail.

Sorry, I ate too many of those fiber bars things and I am paying for it.

Note I said Spidey 1 & 2.

Plus I'm pretty happy Legendary Films is part of this, they've made some great films (I never knew they made the Hangover!)

Wow, they have only announced the movie and a few of the people involved, and people are already whining about how it'll ruin Mass Effect for them.
