They should get Michael Bay to direct the 1st one.

No one notices the 1,000,000 explosions until he makes a sequel involving 1,000,002 explosions, so people won't complain about the story until the second movie comes out.

It's because those extra 2 explosions totally ruin the Immershuuuuuuuuun !

As I said in another thread, I'm hoping for Casey to deliver  a heart-pumping no
holds-barred Planet Scanning tour-de-force !

Wow, they have only announced the movie and a few of the people involved, and people are already whining about how it'll ruin Mass Effect for them.

lol. Maybe because video game movies aren't known for being the greatest examples of cinema. Mass Effect as a series was never that high in my book, but Mass Effect 2's way of presenting was an improvement from the original's cheesy dialogue. Now, my perception of that improvement could be all undone if a movie is just disastrous, even if it isn't going to be Bioware's fault. In the end, I don't care if it's disastrous or mediocre. I'll probably just shut off my higher critical functions and laugh my ass off. I can find entertainment anywhere.

I HATE the idea of a Mass Effect movie. If they have to do it, either

a) Make it not about Shepard. I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson's and Saren's story.

B) Make Shepard not have a romance. Not only because people are going to get annoyed that Ashley, Lirara, Miranda, Tali, or Jack are not Shepard's romance interest, but because I dislike needless romances in Hollywood movies in general. Can't we have an action hero without a romance interest?

/sarcasm on

NO. We must have bad sex scenes! WE MUST! It makes it more awesome.

/sarcasm off

Hey, hey! Now if they pick femShep to follow as the main character and she romances Wrex in the movie...guess what?

Huh. A Mass Effect movie. Well, anyone remember the film adaptation of Doom? 18% rating at RottenTomatoes. Heh heh.

Let's face it, video game movies are usually crap. BUT - and this is a big but (heh) the same used to be true for comic book movies as well, up until a few years ago. Here's hoping this will be the first decent video game movie ever made.

In the ensuing months, we'll be able to tell just how much control BioWare has over this project. If it's about Shepard, I'm pretty sure that means hollywood is winning. If it's about Anderson or some other character in the universe, then hey, there's hope. Making the film about Shep will alienate or royally ****** off at least 75% of the fanbase, who will shake their heads and b*tch about how their Shep would never do what movie Sheps is doing... And i'll be one of them. If movie portrayals of established characters still manage to ****** off part of the fanbase (Batman, Superman, LotR, etc), what more when it comes to characters in games like Mass Effect?

Ugh... after Lord of the Rings and The Bourne Supremacy, I had hope in Keith Urban.  Then came Doom. :pinched:

You know, I can see that.  He's kind of in demand after Terminator: Salvation and Avatar.

Mass Effect is such a personal game to some of us...A film with the generic Shepard won't work for me.

agreed.  Hollywood does not like risks.  They like cash cow sequils (I guess ME has sequil potential... but movies based on games... an unstable investment).  I suspect it will take the path of other games-to-movies and never get picked up for actual production.  Or if it does... the budget will be cut until it will be nothing short of pathetic... and everyone will bail in the very early stages as a result.  It will be a stillbirth movie that won't pass the first trimester.

I fear this movie very much, but have to say if it's going to be about Shepard, I hope they will focus on one of his origin stories rather than the plot line of ME 1 & 2. If it does then they might as well scrap this project.

I guess no one watches lost. I Think a ME movie can do exceptionally well in terms of sales and reviews, mainly because the game it self is mostly storytelling.

You make an excellent point regarding the inclusion of "Shepard".  I would have no problem with the movie being about a "minor" character, but a Shep storyline would be so... wrong.  Cameos by major characters (Tali! ) would be awesome, though!

Overall, I would be quite happy to see it.  I'm a sucker for the universe Bioware has created.

Ha!  Bruce Willis is near 60, and although he struck gold in The FIfth Element, I can't see him doing anything other than that in the near future.  Maybe in the late '90s after he did Armageddon and Die Hard 3.

Most of his movies are shot in blue rooms, he'd be right at home.

This is great news.

I can't wait to see how bad this movie is, how badly they butcher the established characters and story for the mainstream, and the merchandising! We already have ME clothing, books, comics, Dr. Pepper exclusive items, toys/figurines, and now we can have even more!

The cash-grab journey is complete!!

Oh, yes, this will be most entertaining.

I can already see the fan outcry!

"That's a terrible Shepard! What were you thinking?!"
"The plot is so thin; this movie blows!"
"You turned Liara into a gun-slinging wise-ass with hair?! WTF!!"
"Where's WREX!?"
"Why does Shepard fist-fight Saren on top of a volcano at the end?!"

I can only hope it's as good as the Wing Commander movie.

I must disagree with your idea that Hollywood is completly afraid of new movies.  I will admit that most studios are content to pump out sequels, but a new movie IP that has a well-established fanbase (like Mass Effect) seems to be a rather common phenomon nowadays.  One needs only to look at Marvel's rollout of movies (Iron Man, Spiderman, Thor, Hulk.... [And only one of them has been bad!]) to see this.
