My choice, I've said it before and will continue saying it... Chiwetel Ejiofor for Shepard.
Comic book film producers, a VERY bad idea. Comic book films sell tickets, but are they fullfilling storytelling?
No.

I appear to be in the minority when I assert that this movie has high potential. Claiming that "all video-game movies are terrible" is simply wrong, for Uwe Boll's poor directing is the cause of this (he has done most of the movies). The only real problem I see is that it will be barely above a budget title, which could prove disasterous. Mass Effect's vibrant universe will require massive amounts of technical expertise and work to pull off, and thus lots of cash.
QFT except the budget title. The Dark Knight and Batman Begins were nothing near "budget". Yes, they had a highly-developed and popular comic strip behind it, but don't forget that the BioWare heads are exec producing this film, and they are in league with the biggest software developer in the world in EA.
In other words, the cash will be there to blow.

I actually would like the movie to be about Shepard. Who cares if it isn't my Shepard? If the Shepard on the movie is entertaining, then there is nothing wrong with it.

Just to clear it up, I wasn't asserting that it would be budget. I too believe that there will be considerable cash behind the movie, with Bioware and Ari Arad behind it. I just worry.

"Potential" is not the issue here. There is no way they're going to take the ME series and turn it into an hour and a half movie.
They might have a shot at making something semi-decent if they try to create a unique story set in the universe that's not directly tied to the games, but we all know that's not going to happen. They're going to try and capitalize on Shepard and the game's basic plot, while bastardizing the hell out of it to also appeal to the mainstream.
It will probably be released alongside ME3 as an extra advertising push, too.
It's going to be awful. I can't wait!

Sure this movie has high potential, but tell me, have you ever seen a video game adaptation movie that lived up to it's potential? I sure haven't.

Precedent says otherwise. Batman, for example, has a rich history of nearly seventy years, with a deep backstory and far too many characters to count. This did not stop it from being a great movie followed by an even better sequal (I'm talking of Batman Begins and Dark Knight). Care must be taken, but I believe it will be good. You seem to have no faith in Bioware's ability to keep the movie on something that the fans will love.

I don't trust BW much with the ME Universe anymore and will stick to reading fanfic after ME3 is come and gone, thanks.

I don't have faith.
Especially when BioWare is probably going to be very far removed from actually making the movie.
Batman's actually pretty easy. He's a very simple character with a very simple premise. Shepard? Not so.
This will fail. Horribly.

Dude, you can expect to have yourself a good time on an ME movie, but don't expect high praise as if I watched Seven Samurai or even Star Wars.
The likelihood of that happening is close to nil.

I can't really think of any, though the Tomb Raider movies did good, but mainly I think that was because all the nerds flocked to see Angelina Jolie. Also Mortal Kombat was cool, though Anhiliation just sucked. I thought Max Payne was decent, though I haven't really played the original.
Going along with this, anyone planning to see Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time?

Resident Evil: Paul W.S. Anderson
Doom: Andrzej Bartkowiak
Tomb Raider: Simon West
I think the problem is bigger than Uwe Boll

The only person that can play Miranda is Yvonne Strahovski.
Done. Case closed.

In reality, none, which is kind of the point I'm making. Comparing a Mass Effect movie to any other videogame movie will inevitably be wrong, as Mass Effect is far different from any other series ever adapted, and (if given the proper funding) it would have a significantly different production "system".
To actually answer your question, however, I do have two "kind-of" examples. The first is the Pokemon movies, which are technically based on a game adapted from a card game, but I'm splitting hairs at that point. I have never been a fan of the franchise, but apparently, many fans believe the first movies stayed true to the series.
Secondly, the Prince of Persia movie has a 55% in Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that most reviews have been positive. Its the only game to movie that I really see as in any way comparable (and PoP's universe is far more shallow than MEs).

That is one hundred percent true.
Another "they must play this character" would be Tali being played by Liz Sroka. Anyone can actually "play" her character physically, but Tali's mask would allow Liz to record the voice for her.

No, 55% means rotten.
I'm going by majority, not what Rotten Tomatoes actually rules. 17 say it was good, 14 say it was bad.
