I agree with Onyx Jaguar. The movie needs to take place in the Mass Effect Universe but of another political thing going on. It must not be of the game's story because there is too much choice and what not. Plus I would love to see what other tales the galaxy has to offer

For those who are thinking "But there are so many LI's, you can't just pick one or two!" - Yes you can. And they will. Deal with it. It will be presumably Casey's favorite LI. Jack. Who is his fav LI in ME 1 I don't know. Some say Liara but he's been talking quite a lot rubbish about her so no idea.

Awesome. I don't see what the big deal is if it follows the game. Choices? And? Just let it have some default storyline and choices to follow. So what if it doesn't coincide with the way you played the game. Lol, I can imagine weirdos in the theater.
"Omg that's not how it's supposed to happen!! I'm so offended!" or something stupid like that.
It's not like the movie will have any effect on how you enjoy the Mass Effect games, it shouldn't.

Yeah if they make it about the main plot, they would be making it for the fans. However that makes no sense because
A) It would alienate most of the audience
We already know what happens, and we have had more control over it
If they were making it for the public who doesn't care about the Mass Effect games, they really wouldn't need to base it off the actual games.
They'd have to write a script from scratch anyway, and the screenplay writer would feel more comfortable making a new script rather than adopting a ridiculously long story into one short movie.

If it sees the light of day, it'll be an adaptation of the first game.
I doubt it'll see the light of day though. I don't remember the last popular video game where there wasn't talk of a movie adaptation. Most are just abandoned when a newer and shinier game comes along.

This is probably true. I would imagine the budget concerns would be problematic. If they can't make a Halo film they probably wouldn't make a ME film.
HOWEVER
Other than Mortal Kombat what other video game adaptation was based on the plot of the actual video game?

No, if anything it will be two Li that fit better with the main story, that is Liara and Miri. They both fit better into the story then the othert LI, plus if they do Miri, they can get Yvonne to play her.

I HATE the idea of a Mass Effect movie. If they have to do it, either
a) Make it not about Shepard. I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson's and Saren's story.
Make Shepard not have a romance. Not only because people are going to get annoyed that Ashley, Lirara, Miranda, Tali, or Jack are not Shepard's romance interest, but because I dislike needless romances in Hollywood movies in general. Can't we have an action hero without a romance interest?

Crap, crap, crap. As much as it would make sense, there's no way the film will follow a different story. 90% sure it's gonna be a male shepard (someone who looks vaguely like Mark Vanderloo), paragade or full paragon, Ashley romance or no romance and a heavily chopped up story.
It's cool that Ray, Greg and Casey are producers though. Dream director for me would be Neill Blomkamp, but that's doubtful.

As long as it's not based on ME, ME2 or the upcming ME3 and Shepard, I have no problem with it. There is many things they can do like doing something with Cerberus, maybe showing Miri as a young woman?
However making a movie with Shepard will do alot of harm.

If that is true:
A movie should be in the universe but not involve any of the game characters in any meaningful way. As stated before, the games are unique among the players because of the choices we make during the course of our playthroughs.

They can't use the main plot. Shepard is a million different people depeding on the player. They could never cast a character created by the individual! Maybe they could transcribe "Revelations" or something.
I mean, Resident Evil proved you can make a game-based series of movies w/out using the plot from the actual games. If Avi Arad and Legendary are making it, then it COULD be good. Fingers crossed.

Oh, I wouldn't assume Casey's personal preferences have any say in this at all, he's just an assisting producer and anyway once you give a script to Hollywood it's out of your hands and into theirs. After that it's a partnership at best, and the studio will cater to what it thinks the masses will like the most.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Ashley or Liara. I can see them wanting to introduce the hot female love interest right away for audiences.

I am not sayin that I would approve...but:
they would probably make the movie regardless of the hardcore fanbase. The viewer numbers of a blockbuster movie go in the millions in the first week. ME 2 for example was sold only about a million times so the desired audience is far bigger than the actual number of gamers. Also most of the gamers wouldn't care about how the choices would be like in such a movie. The forums represent only a minor number of ME players. Most of them probably don't care at all about plot holes, other decisions and LI handling.

If thats the way they will use Miri then for hot love intrest because they can get Yvonne to play her. Yvonne is a actress and can act in shows and movies.

This is a terrible idea for many reasons. Every person has their own personalized game, and they will not be able to cater to anyone if they based the film off any set choices. And as it has been stated; the only way to do this is if it has nothing to do with the characters or premise we already have in-game. It would need to be about some outside event, not tied to the main plot of the games.
