*Remembers the Bloodrayne movie* XD NO!
I would prefer if they write a different story within the ME universe.

In other words, we shouldn't expect the movie to justify our Shepard for us, it has nothing to do with our Shepard, and everything to do with their own version of Shepard. Movie Shepard hooking up with Jack doesn't make Tali any less of a legitimate LI.

The devs have said that they won't establish a canon story because it's a game about choices. Now they've sold the rights to have a Mass Effect movie made, which clearly goes against their previous statement about there not being a 'canon' Shepard/set of choices.
This is quite the middle finger to the fans.
I doubt the movie, on the off chance that it happens, will be a "canon" story. More likely it'll be parallel continuities. Like the various super hero franchises, where the movies ignore the comics and the comics ignore the movies, but generally the original medium is considered the more definitive take.

My only concern is that I hope they make the movie with an "R" rating. I'm tired of these PG and PG-13 action films that don't go as far as they could just simply to appease younger people and their over-protective parents. The games are Rated "M" for mature so obviously they are meant for an older audience and so the movie should be as well. If they make it rated "R" then I'll watch it no matter what just for having the nards to do it.

It's the principle of the thing I guess. Even though I still have KotOR 1 to play to my hearts content with Female Revan; ManRevan is canon. Her story doesn't exist anymore. That kind of makes me a little mad/sad, as does establishing a canon Shep.

If they go with the typical male space marine who's last name is Shepard, I'm not going to watch.
Yet you play the ME games
I play ME games with a space marine who happens to be female. Much MOAR interesting.

You people worry way too much. So what if the characters aren't exactly like they are in the game? We as fans already know the game portrays them in full depth so why worry about a movie? Be glad that Mass Effect has earned so much popularity that they actually have decided to make a movie out of it. Also, directer of Dark Knight directing it? I can live with that.
Well, I think it's about how big a deal the movie becomes.
If the movie isn't that big a deal then it's fine. But there are times when a movie can upstage the original work it was based off of and steal the spotlight. The movie can become more important and more well known than the game/book/series it came from, so when people think of the franchise, they think only of the movie.
Then it matters, because the movie becomes canon and has in effect replaced the original in the public eye.

The universe of Mass Effect has been well known for 3 years now and has countless fans. A movie won't replace that.

The movie going audience is larger than the Mass Effect community. That is a fact.

Hey, I was trying to forget that movie but now it's coming back to me. What have you done?irene9876 wrote...
I certainly hope the movie isn't based on the ME main story. If they did I worry it'd wind up being a story that none of us recognize considering how much they'd have to cram into a couple of hours.

To me, the important thing is to recognize the movie for what it is. A Mass Effect Movie starring someone else's Shepard. Just as I don't get all angry when I watch YouTube videos of another person's Shepard, I have no problem watching a movie with someone else's Shepard. It's not my Shepard, and it doesn't affect my game at all. I'll enjoy watching it (if it doesn't suck) just to see how another group of people developed their Shepard.
In other words, we shouldn't expect the movie to justify our Shepard for us, it has nothing to do with our Shepard, and everything to do with their own version of Shepard. Movie Shepard hooking up with Jack doesn't make Tali any less of a legitimate LI.
Exactly what I was getting around to. What counts is what Mass Effect means to the individual personally. What others think shouldn't concern us.

It would be detrimental to base the film off the plot and characters of the game.
If hte target audience was only to the fans of the game, then they would use the plot and characters of the game.
