Good Arcane Warrior info here:

http://social.biowar.../index/164126/1

For the Topic, I can't help but to wonder if something about it is bugged, because SS is completely unable to compete with either BM or AW.

Are you nuts?

So you said, then you didn't prove anything I wrote as wrong.

You need heavy armor if you want to tank. That gimps your spellcasting.
Yes, the Arcane Warrior is powerful, because you can choose to play warrior, but Blood Mage is better for purely spellcasting.

If you are arcane warrior you need neither combat magic nor heavy armor to tank. I was just experimenting with this spec earlier today. At level 25, wearing only robe, I've managed to raise armor to 40+, defense to 80+, mental resistance a solid 100, physical resistance rarely below 80, all elemental resistence maxed at 75%. All this is achieved with shimmering shield complimented with rock armor and magic shield buff. All for a fatigue of 17%.

Can you go into detail about this armor 40+?  How do you get to that number?  Rock armor for me was +7 I think, magic shield doesn't add armor, I don't think shimmering is 25+ maybe I'm wrong on that.

It's useful at low levels and only if you cast it before the fights. Other than Blood Mage(which I never unlocked) the mage specializations are pretty weak IMO. I think they did it that way so that the NPC mages you get aren't ridiculously overpowered. If I were to make a mage PC I think I would just use my spec points for the bonus attributes.

*********SPOILER!

I find Shapeshifting to be useless. What actually pisses me off even more is that Bioware had the right idea for Shapeshifting (the shapes gained in the Fade during the Circle Tower quest) and chose not to use it.

The shapes from the Fade are a great because they give you different sets of abilities, resistances and other stats. Those shapes have distinct strength and weaknesses. If the Shapeshifting tree was anything like that, it would be a great specialization, powerful in it's versatility. Instead what you get is a crappier type of melee-fighting mage, completely inferior to AW.

And I completely agree that the shift time is ridiculous. I think on my next play through I'm going to get that respec mod and respec Morrigan right out Shapeshifter.

Shapeshifting is good for increased run speed during "swarm". Also, arcane warrior, blood mage and spirit healer are very powerful specializations. Shapeshifter is just dwarfed in comparison. It would've been much better had this been a role for melee characters instead.

There is a heavy armor in the game that gives minimal fatigue, so you could wear that and with rock armor you'll reach around 30 armor with 11% fatigue - pretty nice. And that's without Shimmering Shield. Probably there is also mage gear that can give high armor - i found a few items so i guess you could pump your armor pretty high even in robes. But 6% fatigue from heavy armor is simply no big deal.

Or wear massive armor for lots of fatigue but the highest armor reachable in the game. Not to mention the resists with Shimmering Shield up, and the melee dps.

Arcane Warrior is insanely powerful.

Way I see it, their is room for shapeshifters, just a case of working out what works best for them then utilising those skills. Am not sure whether you could have them as a main tank/DPS character but definitly a team member

Hey can anyone explain how being a Shapeshifter is good for anything?

Since you can't cast spells while in animal forms , and if you get hurt a bit as an animal you revert to human forrm pretty quickly this seems like its simply a novelty so you can run around as a spider , bear , or swarm of bugs

A novelty you could simply enjoy by switching to morrigan and running around as animals for a few minutes once in a while , therefore making it absolutley stupid to ever specialize in it on your own character

Or am I wrong?

You are not wrong and yes this topic has been beat worse than a dead horse.

Just use a mod. It's quite nice to burn stuff as a rage demon or shred everything as a werewolf :D

I specialized in shapeshifting and as much as it pains me to say it, it is huge disappointment. I suppose if y our in a pinch and you need a quick tank you go bear or need crowd control you go spider, but the casting times are too long and if most of your party is dead you'll be interrupted casting it. You can shapeshift before the fight but who would do this cause you'll have to sacrifice your parties mage for a weaker element. Shapeshifting needs a huge tweaking. If I play a mage again I'm definetly going blood mage or arcane warrior

acutally taking both the blood mage and arcane warrior spec is the way to go. You can use combat magic and the other defensive mode (it forget what it is called) and you are pretty tough defensively. The downside to that is you are pretty much out of mana, however if you then switc h to blood magic immediately after you are no longer using mana but health. In any battle you can turn one of the tougher oopenents to to fight for you with blood control, then use blood boil to freeze and and harm everyone (it actually looks a little like force crush for swkotor), then while everone is choking you leave blood magic mode and combat magic mode restore your mana and use an aoe spell to finish off whats left

Being a shapeshifter is kind of cool at parties. Would be fun to see Morrigan terrorizing companions around the camp at night while they're sleeping though.

Hey Allister you have a spider on your shoulder--- Allister runs off to Wynne screaming like a girl!!

Besides that, I could see it being fun just for people who like using powers because they are different even if they are not the most powerful ones, just to try new strategies.

Honestly i think shape change is the worst thing any supernatural creature can do. Find one movie where this ever worked out for the bad guy! Just one!

Aladin? Sleeping Beauty? Sword and the Stone?..Nope on all counts..Honestly I dont think you can find it.

Always ends the same to. Character with ungodly power shape changes and then quickly dies as the form they change into is far less powerful than their origional form. I honestly see parrelles in the game to that as well. You shape change and poof..you start the slow slide into death.

As Wonko33 said..its a good party trick but not much else
