If you lived in Thedas, which religion would you follow?

Thedas is home to several fascinating religions.  The most prominent featured in Dragon Age is the Chantry of Andraste or Andrasteism.  This religion very cleverly parallels Christianity with many of it's devices holding much in common with real life Christianity.
They even detail schisms within the faith as noted with the black divine which holds a different interpretation of Andraste's role in theological history, believing that she was not divine but merely just a gifted prophet.  This is very similar to the way Muslims view Jesus.
Of course there are several other religions that are known to exist in the Dragon Age universe such as the Qun, the polytheistic religion of the Elves, as well as the worship of the Old Gods by the evil Tevinter Imperium.
The Elves role in society is similar to that of the Jews in medievil Europe although the religion of the Dales more closely resembles Greek mythology.

I like the Qun philosophy since it a highly organized, feudalistic society where everyone has a role assigned to them by the Ashkari.  I think this is ideal since it gives people a sense of direction right from the moment of their birth and the Qunari society can designate every child born a role which is needed based on the overall needs of Qunari society.  This seems like a great system for a warlike culture.

Overall though, I like the Old Gods.  I can imagine just how cool it was in ancient Tevinter with massiver statues of Dragons towering over spires where the blood of Elven slaves ran poured through fountains to feed the diabolical magics of the ruling magisters.
Worshipping the Old Gods is evil and evil is cool.  So I like the Old Gods.

Out of those... The Dalish Elves for me. I always enjoyed creation myths that featured more than one god. The Chantry reminds me too much of the en masse calisthenics sessions of my youth. The Old Gods and the reveling of blood for power is too extremist. The fact that I don't get to choose my lot in life is very dissuading for me on the subject of the Qun way of life. Reminds me of Edo era Japan.

I think my problem with the chantry is that they're so pious that they cannot even realize when they're doing something that is wrong.

What the Chantry did to the Elves of the Dales was just flat out wrong. They not only destroyed their culture but they even contradicted the wishes of their prophet Andraste who had wanted the Elves to have their own homeland.

Definitely the elven pantheon for me, since it most closely resembles my beliefs. Not to mention I just love the Dalish elves and the whole idea that they are a people who have lost everything and are still trying to put all the pieces of their lore back together.

Imperial Chantry for me, they seem to be less high-strung than their Orlesian counterparts.

Definitely not the Qun, I play as a mage, so they'd put me on a leash.

I wouldnt want to live in Thedas.

Seriously.

Daelish = forest dwellers, hunted and hated by everyone

City Elfs = lowest of the low people, practically without any rights

Dwarves = omg the noble ones are at each others throat all the time, the common are pawns in the hands of the nobles, and the casteless are born to be criminals and lead a horrid life

Humans = far from leading good lives as well, suffering from arrogant nobles all the way

No thank you.

Yes. The Chantry reminds me of Christianity way too much. =_= I may be practitioner of it, and I'm not exactly faithful, but it's a game and I don't really like the idea of having to be holy in a game too.

Just a thought, really.

I respect the Qun. It's so...awesome. And well-organized. As Busomjack said. =_=

I am divided  -- The Dalish world view or the old gods (if I can live in their hey day, not in the current age and if I am a mage)

No, Thedas isn't a very appealing place to live, and really your religion would be dictated by the society you lived in. Given the choice, I would be human because the elves are downtrodden and both dwarven and Qunari society are far too rigid for my taste. Since I really can't see myself as a Chasind, my only religious would be the chantry...I'd probably give it lip-service out of a feeling of social obligation but would have no real religious fervor.

The Chantry most likely. Not perfect but the other religions seem to idealised, or too repressive. The Dalish seem to obstinate, the dwarfs too caste bound, the Quun kinda socialist...

I'm more of a historian myself, so probably all of them... I prefer to study religion rather than immerse myself in the faith...

Definitely the Elven Pantheon, it reminds me of the ancient Greek believes with a father and mother god (Elgarn'nan and Mythal vs Zeus and Hera) and the Norse mythology with Fen'harel as Loki and the wolf Fenrir.

The whole livestyle of the Dalish appeals to me, trying to regain there history and to wander around trying to find a new home

I would tell everyone in Thedas of the glory of the Enkindlers! Might be the wrong Bioware universe, but it's the only true religion!

I think Andraste has been seriously misrepresented in the name of religion.

All the DA religions are restrictive in their own way. I love how they've done that.

I do think I'd be mostly curious of the Old Gods and the Tevinter mages. Perhaps because in the age we play in, they are slightly mythical.

The chantry most likely. But not hard core, more of a reformer if there was an option.

I would have said atheist, but in a world where magic and demons are real, I would most likely believe in the Maker.

I think I'd still be an atheist. Or, at least agnostic.
