Using Vista Ultimate 32 (fml). Getting the "can't connect to the database" error, or whatever it is. I hear it's fairly common. I went looking in my services administrator tool for the service, and the service isn't even there. Nothing that has anything to do with SQL or BWDATOOLSET. Tried uninstalling everything relating to it, reinstalled it all, same problem.
Funny thing is, when I first installed it, it worked. Then I restarted my computer, and it stopped. Quite annoying.

i had a similar problem somewhat recently. rebooted my computer and the service just disappeared. sadly, i do not have a solution for you. in my situation, i was able to uninstall literally everything and the toolset too, and then reinstalled the toolset with the 2005 SQL settings as default. this worked, though it was inexplicable.
you could try installing the most recent 2008 SQL service over your 2005 SQL installation. are you running the toolset as administrator? i dunno, i'm pulling things out of my ...hat... now, since i've had this problem and i know how frustrating it is. =/

in my case it was a database problem, it can be many things. You should check if the service is running and after that if there's a database and what it contains. Some of the information that You need is on wiki, for everything else You just have to google around... and yeah it is irritating like hell

I have similar problems. I'll try doing the same thing that Charsen did. Maybe it'll help...

do whatever you want, shadow. the DAO world is your oyster. i'd recommend starting with SilentCid's video tutorials. he shows you how to make a basic conversation, quest, reward, items and stuff like that. There is also a guy on youtube (dragonage22) who has a bunch of good videos that cover a variety of things.
and there are of course the tutorials in the Wiki.
