Like with KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights. Do you think Obsidian would do as good a job as Bioware at keeping Mass Effect franchise alive? Just hypothetically, some disaster happens and Bioware is on the verge of going out of business and there needed to be a way to keep ME alive.

Obsidian will question every RPG and world premise Bioware has made, resulting in something dramatic and slightly depressing. Is it bad? No, it's deep.

But, expect a Confucian turian anti-Saren squadmate who fully regrets his actions in the Relay 314 accident.

Obsidian does some great work, especially evident in the restored version of KotOR2.

Having said that, there's isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Bioware would let any other studio develop a PC/console Mass Effect RPG.

For other games, like a Mass Effect RTS, sure. But not an RPG.

Obsidian, if allowed to finish KOTOR 2, would have been a great game.

Haven't heard that Obsidian has ruined any series other that, they do games well...hell...

Keep in mind folks, that Obsidian isn't under the boot of EA, and we can see the M/M romances and other stuff.

Also Mass Effect might be an RPG again.

In that case it won't wind up with an awakening style dialogue system.

Odds are it would look something like this:

The first bit of the game will be completely awesome, then somewhere in the middle things will start to get buggy and confusing until everything falls apart at the end.

Over the next few years modders will restore tons of cut content that will make the game better and have it make more sense.

Dude, let KOTOR 2 go already.

What should be fearing is the day EA buys off Obsidian, merges it with Bioware and forms the new subsidary EA Role Playing studios (formerly Bioware and Obsidian)

WHERES YOUR DREAM NOW MUZYKA?

I'll hold judgment on Obsidian until New Vegas comes out. But for anyone who's interested, check out Alpha Protocol. It looks inferior in every way to Mass Effect imo. We'll see.

I support this idea.

As for BioWare giving ME to Obsidian. Not a chance, Obsidian has better things to do than to keep taking BioWare's franchises just to make their sequels. Obsidian should do their own stuff instead of just taking everything BioWare does.

You'd see Female forms of the Alien races and an interesting storyline

I think Obsidian has the potential to create quality work. I personally think they often don't meet that potential.

Seriously? Dragon Age has same gender romance arcs. Just come to terms with the fact that BioWare, as a development studio, decided against SGRAs in Mass Effect.

KOTOR 2 has a "no letting go" clause as long as I own it.

People really need to stop blaming Obsidian for KOTOR II. It was Lucas Art's fault. Obsidian had 11 months from concept to release date to create KOTOR II which resulted in it being buggy and having serious amounts of content deleted. Despite the impossible predicament Obsidian made KOTOR II a good but not great game. If they actually had time to finish it, I think a lot of the KOTOR II hate wouldn't exist.

If you take a deadline you can't meet you're at fault also. People need to stop trying to put all the blame on the publisher for a developer overextending themselves.

what are you expecting for obsidian to do after the Final on Malachor V ?

finding Revan is hard as hell ! and confronting Exile & Revan needs another sequel

@Darc_Requiem explain other aspects well.

I have no problem with that, at least we can see Jade Empire II :)

They're both good companies. However, the latest games from BioWare seems to be made character development simpler. Perhaps to cater for a broader market, I don't know.

NWN2 was pretty buggy too... another case where the publisher pushed the deadline. Obsidian had big ambitions to expand and reorganize the NWN1 Aurora toolset.... but frankly, they should have left the toolset like it was and just added new features to it. By the time the expansions were introduced, the game was much better.

I believe Obsidian was following behind BioWare because those were two licensed properties and BioWare was in a mode of moving to creating more of its own IP and doing less licensed work. Dealing with someone else's IP can be a bit tricky and limiting, at the same time.

This concept doesn't follow through to ME, since it's BioWare's own IP. Obsidian would have to buy a license for ME from BioWare in order to produce an ME title.
