"All of those except Game Developers Choice Award are unimportant, only GDCA are chosen by professionals, not some screaming fanboys."

And how did they become fanboys? Oh yea, because they liked the game. And I'm looking forward to New Vegas.

They are fanboys because they have the memory of a goldfish and are attracted to shiny baubels. All those "awards" are given by raging mass of fanbois who just happen to vote something because it looks pretty and it's new. And thus they come to forums and rage about how this game X is the greatest game ever. And after a week when game Y has come out, game Y is the greatest and best game in the whole universe, for a week, then game Z comes along. (note that Z doesn't mean the actual game Z, it's just a random letter to descripe a random game)

Well logically that's not the case because negative reviews are given, as well.

Most of those so called "gaming magazines" have a funny way of writing 10 pages of hype from a sneak preview that shows them 2 concept art pictures and a prerendered intro video of the game and the site is filled with adds to preorder said game.

And when the game is reviewed (10 pages again) the game gets 98/100 and the site is filled with adds of that game. Where as some great game (that has had great review from the truly independent games media) from an unknown developer gets a two sentece review, 50/100 and the site still shows the adds for the mega game.

Coincipence? Yes it must be.

I didn't have a problem with the first half of the game, however post TRanquility lane I found myself getting bored out of my skull, as it all started feeling anti-climactic.It was a good game, but I'm unsure that FO3 will have the same staying power of the first two games.

Well the main plot of Fallout 3 adn Oblivion is a chore, I prefer these games for exploration but only Fallout 3 and Morrowind I believe succeeded in this regard as Oblivion felt typical to me.  Also the DLC was inconsistant.  Operation Anchorage was... interesting I guess.  The Pitt was buggy as hell and the level design was a chore, bu tthe storyline was very very intriguing.  Broken Steel like I said continued the main plot for better or for worse.  Point Lookout was amazing.  And I haven't played Mothership Zeta.  Whether or not you'll see more staying power I guess is up to its perception, Bethesda seems to have more wings than Black Isle did and I bet that Fallout 3's future may be cemented with what happens in regards to New Vegas.

Like I said, if you are going for a story based RPG, this is not what Bethesda does.  They are probably the single developer that when someone says WRPG, they think of Bethesda, much as when people say JRPG they think of Square Enix.  While neither of them really represent the other companies well, the bullet points more or less make them easily identifiable.

As for Obsidian screwing up New Vegas... I think Obsidian's aware of the weight of this game especially should something bad happen to a franchise that once belonged to the company's spiritual forebearer.

As has been mentioned: the actual "Main Quest" in FO3 was to be taken with a grain of salt (I modded the hell out of mine to make it more tolerable). But it did have some really amazing moments, admittedly. I'll never forget walking into Paradise Falls and putting a bullet between the eyes of each and every slaver and freeing all those kids, heh.

The focus of the game was to make your own "climatic moments", really.

So far, my biggest concern with New Vegas is going to be the cartoonish level of violence that was in FO3 also (IE: you'll be able to decapitate someone with a golf club). Luckily, as they had in FO3, there will probably end up being mods that will make things like head explosions and decapitations a bit more realistic depending on weapon type.

That and, I HOPE HOPE HOPE that at least this time around headshots will equal a kill. Made no sense to have to shoot a half-naked raider three times in the head with my rifle just to take him down.

Also on a side note with Fallout 3, if you visited some of the major fan pages such as No Mutants Allowed when FO3 was released they pretty much hated the game and even said it wasn't Fallout (trust me you haven't seen fan-rage until you have been to a Fallout site, when FO3 came out it was..... interesting). Some of theses sites were actually denied chances to play the game before release which they claimed was because Bethseda didn't want any negative reviews.

The only reason I didn't like Fallout 3 though was because it was so easy to forget about the main quest since you were going all over the place with the side missions, made you go "Oh wait I was supposed to be doing something important wasn't I". I had the same problem with Morrowind and Oblivion though so it comes down to the sure mass of the world you are in rather than any actual gameplay elements.

But for Alpha Protocol I am going to buy it because there is only one opinion about a game that really matters in the end...... my own opinion.

Well in that respect they may be bringing some aspects from Fallout 1&2 back into the game.  FO 1&2 had a lot of rather dark humour and over the top moments.  You could decapitate someone with a pistol if you scored a critical hit.  Plus there were some rather humourous encounters such as seeing the Tardis from Doctor Who materialize and I believe there were a family of talking Radscorpions at one point.

Yep. Fallout 3 is the best game ever. As much as I like ME and KOTOR 1.

That's nice for you, but I've also seen FO3 get ripped to pieces for the terrible ending, which had to be corrected with DLC, whereas the orginal Fallout is considered ( Edit10 some years later) to be one of the best games of all time. GotY doesn't mean much if you don't have staying power.

And I'll happily rip it to pieces for that any chance I get. Bethesda dropped a 500 tonne bowling ball with that ending. It caused me to hate the game and I have not been able to bring myself to go back to it at all since finishing. Yes, I really thought it was that bad.

I don't understand the Obsidian bashing.  KotoR2 was a forced early release, and NWN2 had content cut because it had to get out the door too.  NWN2's problem was that the first two acts weren't related - which was apparently a result of time constraints and a rework. Once it hit its strides, it was actually quite good. It just took a little too long to get there.

Mask of the Betrayer, on the other hand, would have to rank as one of the best RPGs around. For an epic level expansion (which typically I'm cautious of because they can turn into ludicruously overpowered sagas), it was really good.

I'm hoping they'll deliver something great with Alpha Protocol.

If Obsidian made an ME game? I don't know. But I wouldn't predict doom and gloom - I imagine they'd do a pretty good job with it.  However, I also think there's as much chance of that as Krogan twins.

The first bit of the game will be completely awesome, then somewhere in the middle things will start to get buggy and confusing until everything falls apart at the end.

Wasn't just KOTOR2. This happened in NWN2 also.

I'll judge Obsidian when they actually come out with a game of their own instead of piggybacking on another company's success, which they did with KOTOR2, NWN2, and of course Fallout 3 New Vegas.

It is called Fallout New Vegas. Its a full game, not an add-on. Also, unlike Bethesda, Obsidian has many developers that worked on the original two Fallout games.

Ya seems to give a few more options in how you react to someone and it appears that how you treat people can have ramifications later in the game.

I 've been staying away from info about the game as much as I can, seen enough to keep me interested but I don't want the story spoiled,  still remember watching a Mass Effect 2 review and they pretty much spoiled a good chunk of the Suicide mission showing cut scenes and such....... damn gametrailers.

I would rather have obsidian in charge of ME than rockstar, rockstar have no clue how to tell a great story and make an RPG, they just make games where you can just run around, rape, shoot, steal, and crash things, they arent worthy, not by a long shot.

I'll take that with a grain of salt, many of Rock Stars games normally end up huge sellers cause of some controversy that comes up which results in higher sales because people want the game before it gets edited or removed from the market.

They have had some good sales figues but as I said those figures aren't because of a good game.

After Obsidian destroyed KotOR and NWN this would be the worst possible decision Bioware could make. I would literally cry if they outsourced development to Obsidian. I'm a grown man, and I would cry if they did that.

Only Bioware can keep the Mass Effect magic alive. ONLY Bioware. No other company even comes close.

Haven't played Red Dead Revolver but I laughed when I saw this www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/5/19/

If
it is available for PC I'd be willing to give it a shot, but I have
seen a lot of Rock Star's other offerings and frankly haven't been that
impressed.

Keep in mind folks, that Obsidian isn't under the boot of EA, and we can see the M/M romances and other stuff.

Also Mass Effect might be an RPG again.

I think Obsidian have the ability to make Mass Effect a more RPG-styled game, but I doubt they will. You have to remember that Black Isle and BioWare were rather close around the BG/IWD/Fallout years, and both have people from either studio. Some BioWare people went on to Obsidian, some Obsidian people have come to BioWare, and both studios have a huge array of talent. Yeah, I think Obsidian, as a company, have the upper hand in that they've got people who've made some of the most influential RPGs in the past ~15yrs, but at the same time they couldn't have functioned like they did without BioWare. They were given KotOR2 at BioWare's request as BioWare were busy with Jade Empire (possibly ME at the same time, I can't remember exactly), and I'm not sure what happened with NWN2 but BioWare did assist with development in both games, just as they assisted with CDProjekt Red's Wiedźmin (aka The Witcher).

Obsidian have not had a lucky run so far. KotOR2 was forced out prematurely, NWN2 wasn't bad at all and did lead to MotB, tipped as one of the best RPG expansions out. Alpha Protocol looks like it could be a nice change, although I don't really know a lot about it. And, finally, New Vegas is going to just be mind blowing. For those who don't know, the New Vegas team has some original Fallout 1+2 devs/talent behind it, so it's very likely that it'll be "truer" to the series than FO3 was, but even they have admitted to liking FO3.

But just to clear a few things I noticed up. Fallout 3 and New Vegas don't use the TES Engine as that doesn't exist. They use the Gamebryo engine, which is also used by Firaxis for Civilization IV and a few other companies use it. Obsidian are not owned by ZeniMax as someone claimed, they're a private company. You cannot blame Obsidian for KotOR2, that was clearly LucasArt's fault - There is no way you can crank out a full length retail RPG in ~18 months, but that's what was forced upon them.

Not only that, the release date was pushed back in KotOR II by about three or four months to make it in time for Christmas It was intended for release in the first quarter of the following year, but after Star Wars: Republic Commando needed more development time and wouldn't make it for Christmas, Lucas Arts decided to push KotOR II out unfinished.

I guess you can blame Obsidian for putting something together that was way too ambitious with the time that they were given (i.e. exploration of The Force, A LOT of cut content that included two planets) but it's clear that those three months would have really helped them out a lot. Some parts, like the HK-50 factory were almost finished anyways. For my money, the atmosphere, characters, and dialogue were far better than BioWare's effort. I also liked that the evil options were far more manipulative and cruel and less schoolyard-bully like in KotOR I. It's not perfect, and obviously it ends quite badly, but a lot of you are not giving Obsidian enough credit.

But if there was, Obsidian are the best option. Black Isle forever.

I left Fallout 1 and 2 out because they were made by Black Isle. If you think that Obsidian is 100% Black Isle then you are a fool.

Reading your post and seeing 'black isle forever' certainly seems to be the case.
