Mass Movie? Sellouts.

If you don't like the idea of a movie, if you think it will suck, detach yourself from it. Don't watch it. Just enjoy the game.

This doesn't mean a movie will happen, either. Many times have rights been bought and nothing come of it, so maybe it'll happen here.

What I mean there?
Well, just think back to all the horrid comic books that made it to the big screen. It took them a few tries to get them right, and I'm sincerely hoping that there'll be games that have their own worthy representations on the screen some day.
Oh. Wait. I all forgot about Prince o' Persia. I wonder how that one turned out.. *wanders off*

I'd expect the film to influence the production of ME3 so there's a reason to be sceptical about it.
Considering they just announced that Legendary got the movie rights for the franchise and there's not even a script yet let alone a director, cast etc... I don't think there's anything to worry about, especially since it's been said that there will be a shorter turn around for ME3.
The movie might influence post Shepard ME universe but I doubt it'll be out in time to do anything to ME3.

Why assume the movie will be based around Shepard? It's a big universe.
Cue Animaniacs "Yakko's Universe":
Yakko: Everybody lives on a street in a city
Or a village or a town
for what it's worth.
And they're all inside a country which is part
of a continent
That sits upon a planet known as Earth.
And the
Earth is a ball full of oceans and some mountains
Which is out there
spinning silently in space.
And living on that Earth are the plants
and the animals
And also the entire human race.
It's a great
big universe
And we're all really puny
We're just tiny little
specks
About the size of Mickey Rooney.
It's big and black and
inky
And we are small and dinky
It's a big universe and we're not.
And
we're part of a vast interplanetary system
Stretching seven hundred
billion miles long.
With nine planets and a sun; we think the Earth's
the only one
That has life on it, although we could be wrong.
Across
the interstellar voids are a billion asteroids
Including meteors and
Halley's Comet too.
And there's over fifty moons floating out there
like balloons
In a panoramic trillion-mile view.
And still
it's all a speck amid a hundred billion stars
In a galaxy we call the
Milky Way.
It's sixty thousand trillion miles from one end to the
other
And still that's just a fraction of the way.
'Cause there's a
hundred billion galaxies that stretch across the sky
Filled with
constellations, planets, moons and stars.
And still the universe
extends to a place that never ends
Which is maybe just inside a
little jar!
YW+D : It's a great big universe
And we're all
really puny
We're just tiny little specks
About the size of Mickey
Rooney.
* Though we don't know how it got here
* We're
an important part here
* It's a big universe and it's ours!
*
- In the original script, these lines were:
YW+D : You might
think that you're essential
Try inconsequential
It's a small world
after all!

A lot of people seem to think this movie will take place during the games. If Bioware really cares about its' fans, they'll do what Drew Karpyshn does with the novels and not mention Shepards' gender or what important decisions were made in the games.
This movie is most likely going to be a new story set in the Mass Effect universe, which means that Shepard may only be mentioned. I doubt they'll even show Shepard at all.

Cause Shepard is the star character of the Mass Effect series and every movie that I know needs a character to look up to.

Mass Effect is centered around your choices, and attempts to be an unique experience for each person. Movies can't do that. Do the math.
Don't watch it. Simple. Do the math.

Shepard wasn't the star of either the books or Mass Effect Galaxies, plus BW has said post trilogy Shepard won't be the star.

The Citadel station was our last, best hope for peace. It failed. But in the year of the Reaper War, it became something greater: our last, best hope for victory. The year is 2187. The place - Citadel station.

I have no problem with a movie being made after the ME trilogy is done but I just don't want them to just turn out a garbage script. Hell Max Payne actually had a great story in game that could have translated great to a movie with only some minor cuts for time, but somehow they managed to take that story, toss it into the bin and write a story that was essentially a pure mess (Hell when they went into the Tattoo parlor I was expecting the guy to pull down a back screen and go into a Mythology lecture with the amount of story dumping they were doing) even the video game developers were asking how the hell they messed it up since the story was pretty much right there in the game and easy to translate(hell you can just play the cut scenes together in game and sold that as the movie)

At worst it will be a crappy movie that fans of the game can ignore, at best it might actually be good and something fans of the game can enjoy. Seems like a can't-lose scenario to me.

So the hero can be either an original character (just like how the novels brought in Kahlee Sanders), a young David Anderson, or a young Zaeed Massani. Let's also forget that there's a character very important to ME lore that I imagine quite a few gamers might not have heard of: Jon Grissom.
The movie can show us Earth, playing on the stuff that the games alluded to. Perhaps it can also show us Jon Grissom's epic first flight, then flash forward to the relay 314 incident. Ashley's grandfather and Saren's brother could appear in some capacity. Getting lifelike turians in an ME movie would be no small feat (remember some of those turian faces in ME1?), so having them mostly appear in helmets, with unmasked faces featured sparingly might be the easiest way to go there.
Sequels could show us the sad plight of the quarians, the hostility between the Systems Alliance and the Batarian Hegemony, and some badass krogan villains.

It was the dawn of the third age of mankind, twenty six years after the Earth-Turian War. The Citadel station was a dream given form. Its goal: to prevent another war by creating a place where humans and aliens could work out their differences peacefully. It's a port of call, home away from home for diplomats, hustlers, entrepreneurs, and wanderers. Humans and aliens wrapped in seven billion, one hundred and ten million metric tons of spinning metal, all alone in the night. It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last, best hope for peace. This is the story of the last of the Citadel stations. The year is 2183. The name of the place is the Citadel.

Now this I would watch, B5 FTW!
Seriously though, a movie would be made eventually, at least here Greg, Ray and Casey are somewhat involved in the process (not that executive producers have much to say about anything, but still).
Now I'm not expecting this movie to be exactly like the original game, it's unrealistic to expect that. Even LotR strayed from its source, and games are even harder to adapt. Nevertheless I'll most probably watch it, although hopefully it will be about the first contact war or something.
For those freaking out over this not staying completely faithful to the source, well... don't watch it, it's that simple really. http://tvtropes.org/...gedItNowItSucks
