FemShep. That's all I have to say.

thats not even the iconic shepard/ shepard on the cover/ in the cinematics/ in the adverts why should it be fem shep in film
nothing against the fem shep i have one of each gender but it should be the more iconic of the two

It always comes down to this circular argument, doesn't it?

Step 1: No, ShepLoo isn't canon - he's just a marketing Shepard.  Don't worry, FemShep players, we value you too - your Shep is neither more nor less canonical than ManShep.
Step 2: Well, ShepLoo is better known (us: of course he is, you use him for marketing!), so of course we're using him for this game trailer / action figure / movie / whatever and giving nothing to FemShep.
Shep 3: Go to Step 1.

"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series.

Sylvius wrote...
What really makes Mass Effect a good basis for movie-making is its rigid adherence to authored narrative and lack of in-game choices.

Both of those descriptions are true. Is there anything particularly wrong with that?

And I'm honestly surprised that there are still people who think male Sheapard is not being treated as canon. When you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, and that kid adamantly claims he's not taking cookies, do you believe that he's not taking cookies? Male Shepard has always been canon.

The bolded part makes me laugh SO damn hard in light of David Erikson claiming other types of RPGs aren't RPGs...

Double fracking standard Bioware! I'm a huge fan of yours, will probably buy all of your games but the GALL of giving us choices and then publicly stripping it away is hilarious at best.

We make role playing games with visceral content but in reality we give you NOTHING. You are no better then other companies in that regard especially when it comes to ME. I hope to never read about any of your employees make retarded statements again or I'm going to spit in your general direction whenever I hear you tout about CHOICES.

/anger off:devil:

edit: To the person responding to me about how WE'd download the movie illegally and watch it anyway. Hmm no I mean what I say. I'll never watch this if it's about Shep in any way what so ever.

I could seriously care less about what 90% of what sheep will do, I'm letting BioWare know that as a fan, I'm not a on board with what I said. They can give a crap, or not, either way they'll make money. I still won't touch it and I will tell why to anyone who wants to hear it.

BIGGEST FACEPALM IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

Jesus, BioWare, what the heck. ME doesn't need a movie, it already is one for christ's sakes. Cash cows.

Bumping this quote.

Unless it's NOT about Shepard, I don't think I'll be going to see it. For the love of pete, if there has to be a movie, set it outwith the story you've already told!!! (I'm not paying a tenner to see characters I've come to love be reinterperatyed and run through a story I already know.)

The contact war. There's an event I would pay to see a movie about. :wizard:

Edited for grammer fail.

Just a thought:

What if the movie was mo-cap? They could get all the voice-actors from the game...

Some of us people are women, who play women, who bought role playing games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age because we could play our story and not be forced into an 18 year old guy's fantasy ....

Then you really picked the wrong game in ME. Everything about this has been SciFi action adventure epic. And male Shepard has been treated as the canon from day one. Even if they kept claiming he wasn't. Again, when you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, do you believe him when he says he's not taking cookies?

Well, not only men like sci fi action adventures, for a start. And while John Shepard has been canonized (I don't think that anyone really disputes that he has been a little bit, except in the Roman Catholic sense), he has hitherto been only a kind of canon place-holder: he is official, but only to a very limited extent. Putting him in the ME movie shifts him from being an official cut-out to an official character.

Personally, I don't care whether Shepard appears or not, since I will most likely not be watching the film, and thus won't be affected.

Keep Uwe Boll away from this movie at all costs !

Could Bioware please equip Chris Priestly and Stanley Woo with rifles - if they haven't been already - and stand them at the doors to Legendary Studios?

I like the idea, but I'm also very worried... most films based on games have been terrible. Well, at least the other games weren't Mass Effect, this give me some hope...

Althought I'd like to see Commander Shepard in the movie, something says it'll be a prequel to the series... maybe featuring Captain Anderson and the First Contact War, that would be nice too.

Oh man, I hope they don't f*** this one up, like every other film based on a game. They better get some really good, but not over-used actors. I must say, I'm rather sceptical about making ME into a film.

This guy looks way better for the role than Matthew Fox!
And what's the problem of a male Sheppard? Everyone knows that Sheppard is a guy. Female Sheppard is a poetic license to sell more copies.  What would really be weird is to have a male Tomb Raider!

But who knows, when the do the remake in 20 years, perhaps they can do a Jane Shep, like they did to Starbuck in BSG. =P

Oh, and I doubt that the box office would be any great if only game owners went out to watch it. The aim is bit wider here and I also doubt that game owners would influence if Shep is in it or not.

I personally would like to see the First Wars and some Sheppard pre-game stories like Akuze.

I'm jumping of hapiness (like a retard) across my entire house because of these news. But, I have a few requests to the producers of the film and to bioware:

1. The Uncharted Worlds music in the movie, please.

2. Wrex.

3. DON'T F*** WITH THE HISTORY.

Thanks.

I really, REALLY don't want them to make a Mass Effect movie. I love Mass Effect, I love the game, the story, the characters, the universe. Games to movies just doesn't seem to work because even if you made a top 10 of the best game films the top one will still suck. There are so many problems translating between the genres that I really don't want them to make it.

To start from an interactive medium where the story becomes my own, to a passive one where you have no control over what happens isn't moving forward. I doubt they will pull out because of my one little comment so I just hope to God it works.

It will be Interesting to see what Ebert has to say about this game-film adaptation in particular if and when it ever pans out. It's a universe so rich and colorful that it was only a matter of time before it found an audience beyond the gaming sphere.

But having said that I want to see ME1 adapted for the big screen and not "Mass Effect in name only the movie".

Coming to theaters this summer - a completely random background story set during the first contact wars that otherwise ignore the games completely. Don't do it. Don't even think about. That would be such a waste of potentially our generations Star Wars.

I do hope they keep the original story, I know some people were debating about whether it would conflict with the choice-based gameplay, but I feel like they could just pick a canon storyline. Sure it would be slightly different than some people's playthroughs, but it would be an average.
I figure it would probably be Paragon Shep (cuz protagonists are traditionally good guys), keep Wrex alive (cuz he is everyone's fav), choose Ash (early LI, plus loyalty, equals romantic). Most of my friends seem to accept that as a good "canon" storyline.

Anyways, this news made my day. or month. seriously best news ever. I'm not even going to attempt to express my elation.

I've grown to care about the characters in the GAME and fell in love with their VOICE.

It'll be hard to watch them being played by real-life actors.

As long as it isn't about Shepard, I'm there. I'm already experiencing Shepard's story, and I don't need to see some dude do everything differently than she already has in my story. First Contact war, Rachni War, backstory on Miranda, Jack or Thane, etc would he awesome- no Shepard though.

Seriously.
