While I'm not thrilled with this whole idea of Mass Effect movie, if they're going to do it, it had better be done right.
And freaking Jeffrey Donovan(aka Micheal Westen via Burn Notice)better be cast as Shepard.

- Humans retaliate destroying Turian scout ships.
- Shanxi surrenders to the invading Turians
- Turians doesn't reinforce occupying forces resulting a loss against a larger human fleet liberating Shanxi
- Council intervenes ending the war prematurely.
I think Rachni Wars or the Krogan Rebellions would have better entertaining content but then again... humans weren't there yet...
Maybe it would be post-ME3. Not that I'm excited about the idea of making a ME movie.
"So, I'm just going to run down a list of topics that are affected by the choices you made in the first and second game, and elaborate a bit both on what happened and what may happen.
I'm just throwing this out there since I've had a few of these ideas swimming around in my head recently and I want to see what other people think will happen.
This is assuming that Mass Effect 3 will take place no more than about a year after the events of 2. This seems somewhat likely considering that Harbringer has already left Dark Space.
Krogan/Rachni:
Based on your choices in Mass Effect 1 either the Krogan, the Rachni, or both will be reborn and recovering numbers. Wrex is steadily brining the clans together. Even with only a few thousand of them left, that is still very formidable force.
On the other hand, if you released the Rachni Queen her species will be repopulated. According to what I've read the Rachni replenish their populations very rapidly, so I wouldn't be surprised if they too have a sizeable army.
I think the Krogan and Rachni are going to go to war if both stength as a result of your choices. Wrex is perhaps the most sensible of all the Krogan, and even he admit that he would hunt down the Rachni should the reappear. A lot of the Krogan seemed extremely bound in their violent ways, and even if the Rachni queen does fulfill her promises for peace it seem likely that the Krogan would still fufill the purpose they were crafted for. If the Rachni surive and you kill Wrex however, I think the Krogan may still fight but be wiped out in the process.
Releasing Grunt may have an impact on this, as he is the perfect Krogan. Perhaps he will fight under clan Urdnot and turn the tide?
The Genophage may also be cured if Mordin survives and he kept the cure data from his side quest. If it was cured and Wrex is in charge, it could cause the Krogan to finally become a reputable race and a powerful ally. As a result the Rachni would probably be killed. If Wrex isn't in charge however, the Rebellions may start up again.
Quarian/Geth:
Based on your actions in the trial and with Legion the Quarians may go to war with the Geth, reunite with the Geth, or leave their homeworld. In Tali's trial you can recommended whether the Admiralty Board go to war or seek alternatives. As well, you can supply the data about the Geth you found to certain Admirals or encourage or discourage their opinions.
Obviously these decisions will feed into either going to war or not. If you re-wrote all the Geth back into unity, it very possible that the Quarians could be destroyed in a war. On the other hand, choosing to destroy the Heretics may give the Quanrians a fighting chance.
If you choose not to encourage war, Legion may play a vital role in Quarian/Geth relations if both he and Tali survive the Suicide run.
Assuming you didn't activate Legion, the Heretics will still be a threat and will most likely ally with the Reapers.
The Shadow Broker:
Liara is most likely going to die if she doesn't stop going after the Shadow Broker and Shepard doesn't help her. It's pretty simply. Liara will either end up dead, join Shepard, or become the new Shadow Broker. This could cause a huge shift in galctic politics if Liara decides to run her information services with idealism at the helm rather than capital gain.
ExoGeni:
If you saved the ExoGeni employees from the Thorian and it was allowed to prosper, it could either be a very good or bad thing depending upon the Illusive Man's intentions. The Collectors are creations of genetic modification, and if they teamed up with Cerebus and got their hands on the Collector Base there is no telling what could happen.
I need to check some of the facts on this one specifically.
The Council/Alliance:
If the Council survived and you saved the Collector Base, it is likely they will finally believe you and give you their full support in defeating the Reapers. If you didn’t they will most likely stay stubborn towards your claims until it is too late for them to do anything.
If the Alliance is ruling unopposed, they may join with Cerebus regardless of your choices to be fully prepared for the Reapers. I’m sure keeping the base would help in this matter however.
I played through a Council Lives game, so I may change this at a later date.
Cerebus:
I really don’t know what the Illusive Man’s next move is if you save or do not save the Collector Base. My best guess? If you save it he will attempt to build a Reaper he can control in an attempt to combat the actual Reapers. Cerebus is very extreme in their methods, it isn’t unrealistic to assume this may happen.
If you destroyed the base, Cerebus’s role will most likely remain the same as it was this game.
Shepard Saves the Galaxy:
Shepard will probably save the galaxy if he is fully prepared for the Reapers when they come and rallies an army together to fight them. The Geth will be an valuable ally to have against the Reapers, as will the Krogan or Rachni should either come back into power as you could have helped all three of the races. The rest of the races will most likely rally under the Council or Alliance, though probably more the Council, to fight for Shepard. A lot of the game will probably be preparing the races for War and perhaps preparing an elite team to take down Harbringer and any other Reaper flagships.
Or, the galaxy could be destroyed and put under Reaper control. This would suck, and I really hope that this would result in a game over rather than an ending. But hey, **** happens.
Ok so that was pretty obvious stuff, I really only separated it from a more Renegade ending because…
Shepard becomes a Reaper:
Come on, the signs are all their. Shepard is already a bio-synthetic construct. If that isn’t foreshadowing I don’t know what is.
The Collectors were building a Human reaper, but in the final fight it doesn’t behave like a Reaper at all. It doesn’t talk, and it doesn’t seem very intelligent. It keeps itself out in the open longer than it needs to, and let’s face it A TEAM OF THREE DUDES KILLED IT.
You could explain this away by saying “It is in a larval stage,” but I purpose a new theory.
We now know that the Indoctrinated servants the Reapers collected did not simply die out, but were most likely turned into new Reapers.
However while the Reapers have individual identities, the Human larva is just a mindless husk. What if, the final stage of a Reaper’s construction is integrating the consciousness of a living being with the husk.
When you finish Liara's Shadow Broker quest line, and she reveals that the Shadow Broker was planning on selling Shepard's body to the Collectors. Why would they need Shepard's body if he was already dead? All the targets the Collectors take are live. Why would they even bother stunning people if they could kill them?
Shepard is the first person to ever be brought back to life, at least that is what we should assume. The resources Cerebus used to bring Shepard back to life were astronomical in scope, and it is likely that anyone else with the funds to pursue such an effort would deem it unworthy due to the high risk of failure.
Sovereign offered a similar deal to the Geth, and if we assume that it was at the very least only a partial lie this only strengthens the theory.
Harbringer beats the concept into your skull the entire game. The weak are worthless, yet all of your crew is integrated into the Human Reaper husk. Harbringer constantly threatens you, but he never seems completely intent on obliterating Shepard. He said it himself, he has caught the attention of beings far greater than him.
“We are your salvation, through your destruction.”
Through the Reapers, your race will live on for eternity.
Through the Reapers, your greatest specimen will become immortal.
What could be a better Renegade finale?
Of course, it’s all just speculation."

ya know Jack Shepard from Lost. Look at that guy from early on in the series when he's got a shaved head, he looks almost like that Dutch model that Shepard was based on, further Jack and the commander are very similar characters, Matthew Fox wouldn't have to make very many acting changes to go from one to the other.

or
It will ruin Mass Effect in its entirety for fans like myself who already think the story inside the games is a movie in itself. If they stray to far from the lore thats in place, or just use horrible actors and just make it a CGI fest, then i probably wont even bother, like at all. It's part of the reason I've played both games multiple times. Because the story, and the characters in them, are so well done I just play it to watch the story again, similar to popping in an old dvd. Take notes from Lucas here BioWare, Lucas crammed CGI into his prequels and forgot entirely about the story. Look how that turned out.
I ultimately have faith in BioWare that this wont be utter crap, but I still can't not be skeptical when it comes to news like this.
Theres been plenty good games-to-movies in the past. There's also been some that, well. Yeeeaaaa..........

At any rate I think i'd rather finish playing ME3 before watching a film based on it
Something very loosely based on ME3 would be ok though.

Its not directly geared to catch us as new fans though. Thats the main purpose of the movie. Pleasing the current fans is a required but secondary step. Sure they dont want to royally ****** us off, but they already have us hooked. Most of us have played both games and are going to get #3 to see how it ends. Regardless of what people here want to claim so long as the reviews arent dripping with horrible things most people will drop down cash for a ticket. Even then I bet some people will go anyways. So its not ignoring the fans but its also opening the property to a much broader audience. My issue is people screaming bloody murder because its not their Shepard. Peter Parker wasnt exactely the same in the movies as the current comic version was when it came out. Heck Peter isnt the same person exactely he was in the comics 10 years ago, or 20 years ago. Comics recont themselves all the time. Its nearly a requirement now a days to reboot the universe every couple years, be it Marvel or DC. Is it just because you direct Shepard more you feel this way? I find it weird. I have 4-5 Shepards I run as my mains. I could care less that the movie isnt *my* Shepard. The whole point of the game is making various choices. The movie is just going to be one of many. So long as the characters remain true to themselves it shouldnt matter if Shepard in the movie is male or female. Or slightly more renegade than Paragon.
Everything is speculation obviously though at this point, we're all just really shooting off our mouths to whoever will listen. Myself included of course. Its just some people I dont feel are looking at this in a big enough picture and want to hunker down in their basements craddling their games thinking the world will end for them if things go south or a different direction than they want it to.
- If it were geared to hook us as new fans, it would be as new fans of the movies more so than as fans of the games. Now, that might sound different, but I'm agreeing with you here.
- Screaming "bloody murder" for that reason is yes, ridiculous. Screaming "Ooh~ Fonging!~ the pain~ Oh! There will be pain and fonging!~" is somewhat understandable. What I said is from a more general standpoint. If the movie is based on the (male) Commander Shepard saga, I don't doubt that it will follow a different path from many players experiences. There will be some who, as you said, will be upset because of that. Overreaction mixed with some fanboy/~girl-ism no doubt. As for my own Sheps, I've got at least half a dozen "mains" on each part of the trilogy, plus alts for various reasons including that I enjoy the creation process.
I'm not the hunker in the basement for armageddon type. - The Peter Parker analogy is an interesting one. First, Spidey's a fully established character. That is, less dependent on viewer input. Second, each iteration while different still fits into the universe and the character. How upset would fans be if Spider-Man came out and the main character was a chubby brown guy wielding a broadsword, lopping heads off vampires in Paris while driving a mini-van which converts into a Citroën and just happened to be named Peter Parker? The image doesn't quite fit. Another good example of this is the Resident Evil movies. The very first RE was intended to be canon, but centered around the new character "Alice". The rest of the movies went "pocket universe". The later RE movies were enjoyable, but had a different feel than the first because of the split off. That being said, a reboot can be good, but making it fit is the difference between good and better (imhoal). There's plenty of room in universes like Dragon Age, and Mass Effect for more than just the first hero. They may not choose to do this, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing ME on the screen that isn't centered on Shepard. Hell, the movie could tell the stories of Liara, Tali, or Garrus.
- "Everything is speculation obviously though at this point, we're all just really shooting off our mouths to whoever will listen. Myself included of course." Me too, admittedly, several times already. Part of the mentality I'm guessing is that someone in production will take suggestions from these pages into the creation process. Not be likely, but who knows, right? I'm curious to see what turns out regardless.

And now we have people complaining that there shouldn't be a movie about ME1 story, because the story was already seen. You know..Like Batman's story. Batman Begins should have never been made by that logic.
So no. That reasoning is flawed nad pitiful. Legendary pictures bought the rights to the ME1 game, not the universe, so it WILL be a story about Shepard.
Also, while everyone is entilted to their oppinions, if you insist on declaring stupid oppinions in public, don't be surprised if I call you on them. If your objections are grounded in faulty reasoning, then the conclusions are also faulty.
Chris Priestly said...
Legendary Pictures, the studio behind great films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover and 300 have picked up the rights to make Mass Effect.
- I wasn't complaining, I was expressing an interest (as many others have) in seeing more from the Mass Effect universe. You don't seem to have even bothered reading my post before complaining about it.
- Your objections are grounded in faulty reasoning. Chris's original post (as cited above) declares that the rights were picked up for Mass Effect. That could include anything within the universe, as well as spin-off pockets, as material for a feature film but does not specifically mean the story for ME1.
- Calling people's opinions stupid simply because they are not your own is a personal insult, and uncalled for especially if you truly believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
- By your reasoning, if someone reads a book and likes the story, they should go out and buy the story in mass market paperback, trade paperback, hardcover, audio CD, DVD, iPod mp3, audio cassette tape, collector's illustrated hard cover, hand written manuscript, and graphic novel simply for enjoying the story without asking why there are no other stories, or variations of the story in the series. Sorry, I'd just prefer one version of the book, and to see what else that writer can come up with; but that's me.
- My logic which you tried to refer to allows for Batman Begins. It also suggests that Batman Begins should be done well (which it was), and that Batman should be recognizable as Batman (he was), that it may be easier to create other stories about batman than just his origins (it is, but a greater risk has an increased chance of both success and failure, they took that chance and succeeded), and that Batman Begins should offer viewers something more than previous incarnations provided (it did). With Hudson, Muzyka, and Zeschuck overseeing the project, chances are more likely than not that Legendary will produce something more Christian Bale Batman than Adam West Batman, and that's a good thing.
GothamLord: I commend you for stating your opinions like someone who thinks, speaking to someone else who thinks. Some of your points I agree with. I hope you can see my concerns as well, and that the movie turns out to be something we both enjoy, however they decide to make it.

This is great news! Since BW seams very closely involved in the project, I am certain they'll ensure a high quality product. Curious about cast and story as well. It's quite the dilemma really. A movie about Sheppard seams to be the way to go but they really went out of their way, not to produce a cannon version of the events in the main games. II guess they could make a movie of the Revelation plot (which would be great IMO). However, they are probably thinking about making more than one movie if the first one is successful. For making movies, not having a cannon about the in game events makes i very difficult to set any interesting epic story that takes place at any tome after ME1 (the game obviously) (you'd have to stany clear of the council for example).
The way I see it, they have three choices:
1. Stay clear (e.g. like the books and the comics do). Would be OK but it would constrain the mocies to "sideline" stories only, so not really preferable. If I get a movie I want to see something that is really relevant and on an epic scale.
2. Make the in game decisions less consequential. The worst choice in my opinion. I think fans were already a bit disappointed how little real difference your decisions in ME1 made in ME2. Scaling it down even further in ME3 for the sake of the movie(s) would be the wrong way to go. If anything consequences should be scaled up.
3. They seperate the game decisions fro the movie plots. Basically there would be a cannon version of the games which is referenced and used in the movie(s). Not ideal but IMO the best way to go. I don't mind "Blanking out" my in game decisions if that means I can see an awesome movie (especially given the fact that I do have several characters who all made different choices in the games anyway, so I can just chiise to think of the movie telling the story of/related to one of them.
In any case, this is truely terrific news and I am looking forward to more info.
To BW. Consider a ticked and a DVD sold

In any case, I think it's safe to say that the movie's turians and krogans will be entirely CGI, whuch means that respective voice actors will be the primary candidates for the roles. Seriously, can you imagine Garrus or Wrex with some other guys' voices? No. It's weird.
And if there are any quarians in the movie (which seems likely ) they'll just be people in costumes. It would be funny if they had tinted masks so their faces are obscurred like they are in the game, just to keep annoying the games' fans and to confuse random moviegoers.
And, from the looks of it, the movie will be released in 2012. The fact that they have the executive producers and directors chosen and have announced it already means they're preparing to go into preproduction, probably starting with having casting calls and sending out information to the actors the studio wants to see audition.
The last character to be cast will probably be Shepard, for the simple fact that determining the character's gender will probably take a while.
I'm personally on the FemShep bandwagon as far as the movie is concerned. Why? I think it's only fair that ManShep gets the games and FemShep gets the movies. And, the military action movie genre is seriously lacking in female protagonists, and this is only because of a cultural norm that's completely bunk nowadays.

In regards to Shepards origins. If you look at the current timeline Mindoir, Akuze, Torphan, they happened at different times. I think in that case you can blend all 3. Shepard is a colonial from Mindoir. He joins the alliance, survives Akuze then leads the team on Torphan against the Batarian slavers. Seems the easiest thing to do there.
This is not just a video game movie. This has a lot of potential because of the story. If they stray too far from what got them here then they face alienation of the hardcore fans. Legendary films has proven that they will provide time and money to story driven movies. Batman Begins, yes had action, but the first half of the movie was really story driven.

Wow, this is a phenomenal and in-depth hypothesis of what may/may not be coming in the Mass Effect Universe. As much as I love your ideas of what could be coming, there is one thing that caught me off guard. Your analysis on the re-birth of Shep seems a little bit far fetched though.
When looking back on it, there were a lot of eyes watching Shep at Cerberus, such as their top doctors and former alliance types (Chakwas, Joker, Jacob, and I'm sure others). I'm sure they would have studied the effects of these "implants" before they even made contact with his frame. Think back to Mass Effect when Chakwass was talking about the new L5 Biotic implants they gave students, when Kiaden only had the L4.
Personally, I think the Illusive man has a few tricks up his sleeve. Obviously something about him rubs the entire Mass Effect audience the wrong way. Now, I'm not quite sure if this was to mislead us, or to act as a foreshadowing. But I think saving the collector base would be a huge mistake. As far as the council not believing Shep again, it's likely, but I'm not going to buy into it this time. Think about it, the reaper threat was only a vision that Shep saw, and Soverign was only one Reaper. Depending on how many of your crew you saved during the attack on the Normandy, you have tons of eye witnesses to back up your talk. I'm sure the council will not want to believe Cerberus, but your entire team and crew will vouch for the threat, along with Joker and Chakwas, who were former Alliance.
I like how you mention everything from Mass Effect coming back to bit you in the butt. Given that the dev team at Bioware are genius', I'm sure that your decisions in Mass Effect will play a pretty major role in the third installment. For instance, the Rachni, Urdnot Rex, the council, and don't forget who you recommended to the council (Udina or Anderson).
Personally, I belieive that these aspects of Mass Effect will make their way into the third installment:
-Obviously Kaiden or Ash being lef ton Vermire
-Kirrahes team
-Rachni
-Saving/Killing of Urdnot Wrex
-Who you recommended on the council
-If the council lived
-Soverigns speech with Shep
-Prothean visions
-The protheans making an appearance. (Obviously in a flashback of some sort) Their story.
-Your romance
-Whoever lived/died on your team
-Collector base decision
-destruction/remapping of the heretic geth
-Morinth/Samara decision
-And the biggest, Renegade or Paragon

We're not going to have to wait for ME3 to come out before the movie does, will we?
The movie will probably come out around that time if everything goes smoothly with Legendary Pictures. My only fear is who will play the cast in the mass effect movie.

Speaking of ME3, what do you think's going to happen in ME 3? Everyone can jump into this question. I'd like to hear somebody's point of view on this.DnVill wrote...
I don't get why people would want first contact war for a movie.. imo it was boring....
- Humans activates relay 314
- Turians destroys human frieghters/frigates
Very Interesting theories. Most of these choices are great suggestions for Bioware to use in Mass Effect 3. One thing I like the most is Shepard becoming a possible reaper. I also like the idea of saving the collector base and proving to the council that the threat is real. Bioware please listen very closely to what Kyle 924 is saying. He is giving you excellent suggestions on what you should incorporate into ME3.
