If there's a Shepard character, my heart wants a FShep, but I'm ok with a MShep too. Maybe there's a way to have a Shepard character without revealing Shepard's identity? Like Shepard runs around with a helmet on the whole time.
And, after the movie is made, Sci-Fi network should launch a Mass Effect TV series.

It always comes down to this circular argument, doesn't it?
Step 1: No, ShepLoo isn't canon - he's just a marketing Shepard. Don't worry, FemShep players, we value you too - your Shep is neither more nor less canonical than ManShep.
Step 2: Well, ShepLoo is better known (us: of course he is, you use him for marketing!), so of course we're using him for this game trailer / action figure / movie / whatever and giving nothing to FemShep.
Shep 3: Go to Step 1..
Someone paints a room "maroon." That person proceeds to insist that the room is not "red." Does it really change anything about the color of the room?

No joke.
Whatever, guess I should have just played Halo with my husband then, we could have saved so much money and I wouldn't have to get irritated with random internet strangers.

I really dont care whether Shep is male or female.
It could still be a good movie if they do it right.

I do hope they keep the original story, I know some people were debating about whether it would conflict with the choice-based gameplay, but I feel like they could just pick a canon storyline. Sure it would be slightly different than some people's playthroughs, but it would be an average.
I figure it would probably be Paragon Shep (cuz protagonists are traditionally good guys), keep Wrex alive (cuz he is everyone's fav), choose Ash (early LI, plus loyalty, equals romantic). Most of my friends seem to accept that as a good "canon" storyline.
Anyways, this news made my day. or month. seriously best news ever. I'm not even going to attempt to express my elation.
Exactly. There is no solid iron-clad cannon it's entirely porous for everyone - that's the beauty of it - it gives the screenplay writer/director some room for artistic licence.
The way I see it just treat the movie as the director's first playthough on normal. Paragon, solider, earthborn, etc.
The director or your friend might choose a different class or the paragon path or never recruit Garrus - it might feel wrong to you but their choices aren't any less valid than your own.

I'm keeping an open mind, but my big thing is that if they DO go with the games' characters and try to stay at least moderately close to the games' stories, then they should endeavor to get the actual voice actors to play their movie counterparts-- IE Keith David as Anderson and that kind of thing. I really don't want to have that awesome voice acting steamrolled over.

Still, given the success of Prince of Persia (i suppose) , many game-based films might be made in near future
