Even though they bought the rights, doesen't mean it's gonna happen.

Legendary Pictures owns also rights to Warcraft movie. Warcraft movie has been in the works for few years now, I think they are atm just waiting Raimi(director)to be ready to start shooting so they can start casting etc.

Legendary Pictures won't pump out 2 game movies close to each other. They wanna see if WC is success, then start planning for ME.

If WC movie is success, im 100% sure Legendary Pictures wants another game movie. If Warcraft movie flops, im 100% sure ME movie won't happen for many years(if ever).

Shepherd's story is the games. Suggest leaving him/her out of the movie except perhaps as cameo or short appearance that does not conflict with any of the games or existing literature.

Make the movie a back story for ME3, similar purpose as current literature to existing games. Or...as other have suggested, tell the story of the first contact war.

Alternate suggestion:

If Shepherd is to be included as main character of movie, build movie as between ME2 and ME3 and be careful to exclude info that may conflict with in game choices.

Opinion: Author/writer Drew Karpyshyn's involvement is required in any event.

I, for one, Will be vetoing this movie as I believe Mass Effect will not translate well on to the big screen due to multiple plot conflictions and the likely removal of important characters.

This will turn out to be amazing or embarrassing. Either way I'm going to see it if and when it comes out.

I was just contemplating an idea for the movie. Why not have the movie based during the reaper invasions that wiped out the Protheans. I would be quite interested in seeing that. Not only would it be visually awesome, but you wouldn't be endangering the coherence of Canon and also would put to film, the most integral part of the story of the universe. It could follow the line up to the creation of Vigil on Ilos, and then possibly show how he started to shut down everything ala Hal in 2001. Personaly, toying with Canon so precariously is going to be very reminsicent of Lucas and Starwars.

Though I find it a stretch that Legendary Films would ever make a movie that isn't geared toward the male gaze...

No offense to you, Menagrabrinna (seriously, I mean you no offense), but that phrase (and "female gaze" too) is quite frankly  the most asinine gramatical construct in recent memory.  It is, at once, completely meaningless and the height of concieted arrogance.

Have to go in with the camp that says not really sure I see the point to a movie when what makes playing games like ME so great in the first place is that its better than watching a movie. That being said I don't think a movie is necessarily a bad idea, the ME universe is a ripe one built on an obviously deep seated love for sci-fi and a movie done the right way has the potential to be the equivalent of sci-fi crack. I say go the animated route and do it completely in CG, and leave Shepard out. Going to be very interesting to see how they handle the Multiple Personalities of Shepard and his/her gender identity issues.

Sam Worthington would be the best cause he looks like Shepard.

But he doesn't talk like Shepard. Sam Worthintgon has an Australian accent. Shepard has an American accent. Just because of that, I don't see it happening.

The list with the actors is great but some choices are IMO very strange.

Some examples:

Jane Shepard:
Jennifer Aniston - I think Jennifer Aniston would not fit into the action orientated role of Shepard. She is a good actress but not a action hero. She is more the romantic/comedy type.

Whoopie Goldeberg - wy too old for Shepard.

Kaidan:
Steven Segal - same problem as Whoopi Goldberg. Way too old for that role.

These  choices are indeed very strange.  Maybe somebody was trying to be funny.  lol  Whoopi Goldberg?  Yeah that's funny.   Just leave the damn thing ANIMATED please so the characters are themselves for Christ Sakes.

What? You would rather have the ME movie animated? Ok...
1. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
2. They've already started producing a live-action film on ME.
I would not want to see an animated ME movie like Halo has done in the past because the Halo live-action film coudn't be made. It will NOT go down that road.
Anyone think Mass Effect should go animated or live-action, whether it's about shepard or not?

Oh, you must work with them or something?  Please, tell us more.  lol  Yes, if anything I think that it should be animated like Final Fantasy so there are no changes to the characters.    Just my opinon anyway.  If it's an actual movie, so many people are going to complain about who played who and especially if the voices are different.  The debate has already started.   =]

I certainly do not endorse Sam Worthington but to say he cant take a role because of his Australian accent is silly. There are dozens of Australian, English,South Africa, etc  actors in Hollywood that are clearly able to pull off an American accent.

Uh, haha...I wish I did work with them. I was giving my point of view about the ME movie being animated. And when I said that it "will never happen", I was only saying that because the producers and writer had recently planned for a live-action ME film to happen. That doesn't mean an animated ME movie is out of the picture. There may be one, but not when a live-action film on ME is going to possibly come in 2012 or so. If (and only IF) the ME movie fails, then they would be following in the footsteps of Halo: Legends.

IF they were making an animated movie on ME later, my suggestions would be Mass Effect - Revelation, Ascension, Galaxy, Redemption, and (coming soon on July 27th) Retribution. You could do a story about that individually or, like Halo Legends has done, make 5 different and short animated films, ranging around 20 minutes. Interested? Posted Image

No because he's an awful actor. I'd rather watch cheese mold.

Please, if its on ME1, please let Wrex survive, please save the council, free the Rachni, have Councilor Anderson. But if its based on the 1st contact war, I am ok with it.

Agreed.

*sigh* I so hope they don't screw this up , if they don't it'll be one of the best sci-fi movies ever. Just their story

is already so good (not to mention unique...)

Well im going to say this again but I think Matthew Fox who played as Jack Shepard on the show called "LOST" should play as Commander Shepard because he seems like the only actor that looks and could act like Commander Shepard. All the other actors that were mentioned don't seem like they have the right voice or appearence. Anyone else agree with me? lol probably not but oh well. I just hope he plays as Commander Shepard for the movie IF Commander Shepard will even be in the movie which I hope happens. And I dont want anyone quoting "If commander sheppard is in the movie it will screw up everything" because that is just a dumb statement, how will it screw up anything? Let me guess...it will ruin your Mass Effect experience because its not your same Commander Shepard. If anyone can clear things up to make more sense to why it will screw up the movie if Commander Shepard is shown please tell me instead of the "it will ruin my Mass Effect gaming experience."
