So after much deliberation, and getting over the initial excitement of seeing ME on the big screen... I actually have some real things to say now besides "OMG OMG OMG SWEEET"

1) I do think that it should be Shepard.. But the debate between a male and female shepard is a hard one. Personally Ive never played with a Male shepard, which as an ME fan, makes me want to see a female shep heading up the cast. Mostly because, I have a story painted out in my head (and on my xbox), of her and how she interacts with the crew and circumstances. That being said, I think that the best choice for an on screen shep, is going to be a male.

2) I dont want it to follow the games. However epic they are, the me universe in game , is meant to let the player choose... i woukd be a bit put off if a decision i made ingame, wasnt made on screen, if it was one i felt strongly enough about.

perhaps creating a new storyline, with familer enemies, ie geth, would be best for the movie.

3) either exclude kaiden and ashley, or, keep them both alive. they both have a large fan base, and would disappoint a huge number of fans if it went south for either of them. (i love kaiden!)

4)NO ROMANCE SUB PLOT - for the love of god, and all fans me who hav cultivated li's in game, dont force us to watch shep romance someone else!

5) Please have the garrus character say something about calibrations. it will make me LOL.. Also, include conrad verner. That guy is a ****ing clown and will seriously bring some comic relief.

6) Use thermal clip system as opposed to unlimited fire. I dont think even in the future, theres goin to be unlimited ammo, and it will really urk anyone whos a gun nut. I watch movies so often and see a character holding a handgun, fire like 50 shots without reloading and it makes me wanna scream.

7) Im not sure how they should handle the crew situation. Best case scenario, everyone lived in your games, or, you killed them off, whatever happened, they may or may not all be there.

Id stick with the essentials, being tali, garrus (OF COURSE), a krogan, an asari, (not grunt, wrex, liara or samara or her crazy daughter), and a couple humans. Perhaps Thane, but only becuase hes such a crowd pleaser..

8) You must cast, MUST MUST cast, seth green as joker. No one can replace him. NO ONE. And if you cast some talentless hot girl, like Megan Fox for example, as ashley, miranda, or anyone for that matter, im walking out. Also, this goes for if you dont cast seth. lol

9) With the vast amount of characters, colonists, and extras, i expect tons of cameos. Cameos are great.

10) Last but not least, please dont make it cheesy like spiderman. No horrible one liners, and making shep look like a dbag. please. keep it the way of the new batmans, done right, done dark.

I agree with the above :).

The film needs to either be post ME3 or pre ME. Having Shepard's rise to command is not a good idea as the player chooses that. Whichever way this goes, I think there are a lot of fans out there who are going to be annoyed at the decisions made for the film, and the decision to have a film in the first place.

Ok. As far as cast go, My opinion is that those characters that have clearly recognisable actors/actresses playing them, ESPECIALLY those with on-screen acting experience, HAVE GOT to be kept in those roles, Should those characters be utilised in the movie.

Examples of this are:

Miranda Lawson = Yvonne Strahovski (A.K.A. Sarah Walker in Chuck)
Jeff 'Joker' Moreau = Seth Green
Captain/Counselor David Anderson = Keith David (A.K.A. the Imam in Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick)
The Illusive Man = Martin Sheen (I think everyone will agree with me on this one!)
Captain Bailey of C-Sec = Michael Hogan (A.K.A. Colonel Saul Tigh in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series)

Now as far as the lesser recognisable/unrecognisable voice actors/actresses go, I think that's a bit of an iffy one. Some SHOULD be cast, Given that for the majority of the film, They'll be wearing extensive makeup and/or costume that will hide their appearance almost, If not, Entirely, ESPECIALLY if said actor or actress has been the same voice for the same character in BOTH games (Mass Effect 1 & 2). This will also have the added benefit of the characters sounding exactly like they do in the game as well as them actually KNOWING their role and how it should be played, Resulting in much more believable characters.

Examples of this are:

Tali'Zorah vas Neema nar Rayya/Tali'Zorah vas Normandy = Liz Sroka
Kal'Reegar = Adam Baldwin
Garrus Vakarian = Brandon Keener
Liara T'Soni = Ali Hillis (i'm hesitant here...I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who noticed an uncharacteristic change between ME 1 & 2 here...It just seemed to me like she wasn't "in it" for ME2.)
Aria T'Loak = Carrie Ann Moss
Thane Krios = Keythe Farley

I'm not saying ALL of the voice actors and actresses should be cast. HELL no. For all I know, None of them are any good at on-camera acting, But DEFINATELY three of them: Tali, Garrus and Thane.

Now, As for Shepard, I hate to break it to all you FemShep lovers, But it's almost certainly going to be a male shepard.
How many truly successful action movies had a female character in the lead role? NO, IM NOT BEING SEXIST...I'D LOVE TO SEE A FEMSHEP TOO, But...History, Sadly, Is NOT on FemShep's side. Hell, In recent history, THE ONLY action movie with a female in the lead role, To make it over $100 million US in the box office, Was Tomb Raider...And where is Tomb Raider now?!

Sure. There ARE RARE circumstances that females can hold down lead roles in action movies. Kate Beckinsale in Underworld (1 NOT 2), Tomb Raider, Though, REMOVING Angelina Jolie from the equation, LARA CROFT as a female action lead works well.

There are several other well-established (Again, NOT BY ME) reasons, For males being the preferred gender as the lead in an action film, But listing and explaining them would result in this post being longer than Tolstoy's War & Peace.

Suffice to say, It's the writer's call, But I'm going to stake my life on the fact that it will be a male shep....Which male?

The way I see it:

Christian Bale has done too many high profile movies and while he may AT LEAST PARTIALLY suit the image of Shepard with his shaved head and five o'clock shadow beard a la Terminator Salvation, He's too superhero-ish, Saving the world ALONE kinda actor.

Keifer Sutherland just doesn't suit the sci-fi genre, In ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. He's a good Earth-bound, Present day Military, Run and gun, Save the world actor, But something about Jack Bauer in space, Saving the world from sentient machines bent on harvesting all life in the universe, Just doesn't fit for me.

Having said that, However, It definately HAS to be someone who has played a military-ish role in the past and played it well.

An interesting thought, Though, INCREDIBLY IMPROBABLE, Would be Nathan Fillion for Shepard. Despite the fact that it never got picked up for a second season, YET, He did well as Malcom Reynolds in Firefly and Serenity. He can hold down the role..IF he'll shave his head for the role!!!!

Realistically, However, My recommendation would be Karl Urban. With a shaved head/Crew cut and a bit of stubble, He'd look ALMOST EXACTLY like MaleShep. He's done several military-ish/warrior roles, ALL well:

DOOM: John Grimm
STAR TREK (The J.J. Abrams film): Leonard 'Bones' McCoy
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: Vaako
THE BOURNE SUPREMACY: Kirill
THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY: Eomer

He has also been re-cast as McCoy in the recently announced Star Trek sequel due for release in 2012.

Just a list off the top of my head:

Jennifer Hale as Shepard! We get both the appearance and the voice, and she's a pretty versatile actress (at least from her voice work).

Keanu Reeves would make a terrible Shepard, but actually a really good Kaiden Alenko.

Milla Jovovich for Ashley Williams.

Kurtwood Smith for Saren Arterius? Not sure.

Dennis Haysbert for Captain Anderson.

Susan Sarandon for Martriarch Benezia.

Ron Perlman as Urdnot Wrex

One thing is clear: Seth Green has to be Joker.

No Shepard. That simple. Using the game storyline will kill the game for me. If this is released before Mass Effect 3, the game will be based on the movie and that would be the worst thing that could possibly happen. Shepard isn't a character because of the very nature of the game. Shepard is different in every game out there so how could you use him on the big screen.

Some have mentioned playing out the First Contact War. That is a really good idea that I could get behind. Perhaps even a prequel to the game series would be acceptable. The Anderson/Saren back story from the books is another possibility. There are a lot of ways to handle this and only 1 really bad way to take it.

Leave Shepard and the Normandy out of this.

Matthew Fox would play the best Commander Shepard bc he looks alot like him already plus he is a great actor. Also Seth Green would have to play Joker, no one else can.

I think the main thing that the producers of the movie will have to tackle first is educating the audience on the concept of "mass effect fields", what are "biotics" etc. You need a really good, and yet, short introduction before you can move on to the main part of the movie.

Now that I look back at Lord of the Rings, I wonder how they did it. Their introduction to the Lord of the Ring universe is really really short but yet many people were able to accept it. Even if they have not even heard of Lord of the Rings. I am one of those people.

People will ALWAYS complain. This is irrelevant.

If they made a ME movei perefctly to your spedcification, there's still be thousands who's **** and moan about it. If they made it an animated, peopel would moan "why isn't it a live-action one"?
Tehre's no escaping that, no matter what you choose. Shep or no shep. Male or female. Me1 story or something else.

The only thing that should matter would be if any of the complaints actualy hold water. And in 99,9% of all cases, they don't.

This is going to be absolutely brilliant. Once they stick close to home, this could be the next Star Wars series, honestly.

And once the original voice cast are involved for the CGI Wrex, Garrus ect. and Seth Green plays Joker. I'm there.

In terms of who would play a good Shepard? I suppose Matthew Fox is the obvious choice, but i'd like to see Christian Bale do it. Oh god help us all if somone like Keanu Reeves gets the part! XD

This could be AMAZING! Can't wait!

I can't see how Shepard could possibly be in this movie. The whole point is to make your own Shepard, and the fact that they have to pick that ridiculous, un-badass-looking male Shepard for marketing is unfortunate enough as it is. I can't believe that they would completely, exactly specify who Shepard is and then actually use that Shepard within the context of a real narrative that relates directly to the games.

Personally I'm pulling for First Contact War, Rachni Wars, Krogan Wars, first discovery of Mass Relays, or something of the sort. Or the empty period of time skipped over in ME2. That'd be interesting too. Also I'm hoping they pull Drew Karpyshyn in on the movie concept.

I agree. BUT if the ME movie is unable to prove expectations and release the movie, like what they did with the live-action Halo film (which I seriously hope that doesn't happen), then it may eventually go down that road. Like I said before, if (AND ONLY IF) it went down that road, I would combine the ME comic books (Revelation, Ascension, Galaxy, Redemption, and Retribution in that order) into animated shorts about 20 minutes long.

I don't want the ME movie to fail, though. The option of combining the 5 ME comic books into animated shorts IS A LAST RESORT.

First I'd like to say that I'm thrilled to see ME turning in to a movie (although, as mentioned before, the gaming experience itself is cinematic). Now, making a movie which has such a strong fanbase will be something of a challenge. I don't think they will mess it up, in fact I think this will either be great or less great.

I'm asuming they're only doing ME1. If that one does well enough on the box office, they can easily make two more (YIPPIE!), don't you think? So we won't be seeing any of the ME2 cast.

Now, we can probably stop talking about wheter there's going to be a male or female Shepard. It's an action movie, and we all know women can't pull of an action movie. They scream for help and/or die instead. (Notice the bitter sarcasm). I would have enjoyed a female Shepard, I for one always play as femshep, but movies are business and strong women in full bodyarmor don't sell. But it's still fun to speculate in, right? :)

With all that said (puh, wasn't planning on writing that long, and I've still got lots to say), I think this is going to be awesome. I really liked the Karl Urban suggestion for Shepard! I'll throw in a possible femshep actress here; Bryce Dallas Howard (Terminator Salvation, The loss of a teardrop diamond). She's an actress with depth and character suitable for Sheperd.

For Kaiden I'd recommend Chris Evans (Sunshine, Fantastic Four), or maybe Gaspard Ulliel (Un long dimanche de fiançailles, Hannibal Rising).

For Ashely I'd recommend Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill). I know she's japanese, but there's something intense and stubborn about her (sounds like Ashley right:-)? ).

Liara is trickier. I'm not a huge fan of her so maybe I'm not one to give suggestions here. Maybe Alexa Davalos (Chronicles of Riddick)?

As for Grunt, Tali and Garrus, their voices are vital in giving them personality. Suit the voiceactors up and they're good to go!

I think Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) would make a fine Matriarch Benezia. She's very charismatic.

On the 3D note, yes, I think Mass Effect would be an excellent 3D movie. I mean, it would kick Avatars ass, to be frank. Imagine Normandy sailing right past you in the cinema. How could we refuse that?

Hopefully thie movie will come out before ME3, beacuse, otherwise it's going to be a long wait. On the other hand, let's hope they won't rush it.
