Indeed, I just dont know if people realize that he's the one who should play as Commander Shepard.Blackwingang3l wrote...
Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard is by far the best choice!

I cant believe people think a 44 year old (46 most likely by the time of filming) American sub-par actor who WAS AT ONE TIME A MODEL HIMSELF is a good choice.

Name a video game movie that you thought was worthy of it's original franchise.
Irrelevant
Second, you intend to fit the contents of ME1 in a single movie? TV Series sure, movie seems implausible to me. At the maximum you'll receive 2 and half hours of potential screen time. Here is what you have to decide on including in your film (Basic Plot Missions);
1) Prologue: Find the Beacon (On the Normandy / Eden Prime)
2) Citadel: Expose Saren (Presidium / Chora's Den / Med Bay )
3) Find Liara T'Soni (Therum Surface-Mako / Prothean Ruins)
4) Noveria: Geth Interest (Port Hanshan-Politics / Peak 15 / Rift Station / Hot Labs)
5) Feros: Geth Attack (Zhu’s Hope / Tunnels / ExoGeni Headquarters / The Thorian)
6) Virmire: Saren's Plan (Insertion-Mako / Base Assault / Sovereign / Citadel Station - Return)
7) Ilos: Find the Conduit (Upper Ruins / The Archives-Vigil / Trench Run)
8) Siege of the Citadel (Exhaust Plains / Presidium / Council Chambers / Space Battle)
9) Epilogue
Ignoring potential fanboy backlash from Paragon/Renegade choices, Man/Female Shepard, Plot decisions(Rachini, Wrex, etc.), look at the content above and tell me you can make a coherent story out of that in the alloted time. Because when I look at that, it doesn't seem possible without severe cuts to the story and action, ruining ME1's greatest asset, it's immersion.
A coherent story? Easy. First of all ,you need to take a look at what plot elements the move would need. Game is not equal movie, so anything that consitutes aas padding and extra gameplay cna go.
You don' need the rachni queen. You don't need Feros. You don't need matriach Benzai to be THERE specificly. You could easly plce her with her daughter. Instead of 3 location to visit, you now have only one.
In a game you have to walk around a lot, and pass obstables a lot. In the movie, you proceed at hte pace of plot. You dont' have to spend 30 minutes fighitng to get to the other side of hte level. In the movie, That could be done instantly or in a few minutes tops.
Taking all of this into acount, you can make a coherent plot that follows all major plot points. Easy-peasy.

I agree that alot of the game padding can be trimmed to cut back on the story. It sucks but its something that needs to be done to knock it down to a workable 2.5 hr movie. The need for the cipher can be combined into the ruins that Liara is digging in and found there. Feros and the Thorian arent really needed. Benzai can be combined with Virmire and working there within the cloning labs. The Rachni Queen and Noveria arent really needed either. Sure this cuts alot of side characters and story that alot of people like, but in all seriousness they arent required plot elements.

Mark Vanderloo has no acting experience whatsoever. Matthew Fox gave a great performance on LOST, and has said that he is going to try to start a movie career.

I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of how writers/directors love to cut corners. We've seen it over and over in American cinema. The issue is if the ME storyline, immersion, and characters can survive these cuts. No Rachini Queen (And the numerous other cuts you are suggesting) means that you are blowing your load on a single movie, with no hope of sequels, with the risk of damaging the franchise and alienating fans. Adaptations of anything are a balance between appealing to the Canon while attempting to pull in the mainstream audience, and it very rarely succeeds when jumping across mediums. Look at Movies -> Video games, there tons of great films are simply didn't transfer into games very well. Different mediums require very different approaches, and it sure as hell isn't "easy-peasy" as you say.Lotion Soronnar wrote...

It seems far more sane to make the story set in the ME universe, with original content that can be built between Bioware and the writer/director. Little to no risk of alienating fans, greater creative freedom, easier to pace, etc. Granted this is all a pipe dream, because buying the rights to ME allows Legendary Pictures to create a horrendous sci-fi action movie and simply slap "Mass Effect" on the title, so I guess we should steel our resolve now. It can't be worse then Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, right?
I responded seriously to the top part of the part, before reread this. Are you just trolling? If it's so easy to make a coherent and good movie, why has Hollywood never succeeded in doing so? There is zero supporting evidence that our movie industry is capable of porting videos games into decent movies. Look at Video Games -> Movies. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence.Taking all of this into acount, you can make a coherent plot that follows all major plot points. Easy-peasy.

Seth Green HAS to be Joker (if Joker is in it) for it to be good though, no one else can do Joker. Also, if Shepard is in this, at least try casting Will Smith (if going Renegade, I can't imagine a Paragon Will Smith), if he doesn't make it, at least say you tried. (and before all of you give me crap about wanting a Black Male Shepard, anytime I log on any site or video involving Mass Effect, Shepard is ALWAYS white, even the customs! What are you people, racist?)
