Now that's all good for the game, but my worry is that hollywood is going to want to make "it's mark" on the franchise. What that entails I don't know, but it will certainly include automatically making Ash the love interest and make Kaiden die on Virmire by "pushing Ash into the shuttle at the last second" or something even though she voulenteers.
Ideally they should make the movie as dark as the game is, else it simply won't work. Episodes 1 - 3 made that mistake. They tossed out the dark "gritty" universe and replaced it with bright colours and waaaay too much CGI. Mass Effect: The Movie will fail hard if it goes this route.
As a fan I do understand that you can't very well have a 24 hour Mass Effect movie, and as such certain characters/roles/plot points could be left out or condensed, but I feel that ultimately there are 2 important factors they HAVE to get right for it to work:
1. They cast the right actor to play Shepard. Not someone who is 'bankable' a la Jake Gyllenhall (Look how THAT one turned out) but instead someone who fits the mould. Someone who naturally has the aura of a strong, determained leader.
2. They get the tone, the look and feel, of the ME Universe right.
If they nail those, then we'll be in business!

THe problem, I fear, is that Mass Effect already plays like a movie. It's got a great cast of characters, a fully-realised galaxy and a plot that is nicely devided into 3 acts (Eden Prime, Beacon, Citadel = Act 1. Hunt Saren. Ash/Kaiden dies = Act 2. Find the conduit on Ilos, stop Soveriegn = Act 3).

I completely agree with you there. Although I'm going to stand my ground with this whole CGI thing. When done by the right people, with the right tone of movie, it will be perfect.

Yeah, I just saw the trailer a little while ago. If the Mass Effect movie looked like that I would be very satisfied!MPxGrunt wrote...
Have you been paying attention to the Star Wars The Old Republic videos? I mean seriously those where some amazing CGI videos. With the short nature of them being trailers they still somewhat told a story, and they look F'N awesome. If anyone can make that good a short video with BioWare's direction then I am sure that this movie will be awesome.sumoaltus wrote...
There has been a lot of talk about how this movie will be produced or whether or not it will be live action or in fact CGI.
Now more than ever I personally feel that CGI is the way to go. The reason why I say this is because I recently saw a trailer at E3 for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'll admit, the first time I watched it I thought it was going to be like Lineage, the short film based on Ezio's father. But this was CGI and it was pretty damn impressive.
Anyway, I feel it would be best to keep the movie CGI and use the already perfect voices for this movie, to me there's really no other way.
Any comments on this?
I think they'd get a better product liked by more people if they stick with CGI. And they they can avoid upsetting people though 'bad casting choices'.
Not that I'd mind live action but it has more potential go to wrong.

opening 20 mins:
- Aboard the Normandy,
- Transmition from Eden Prime,
- Attack on Eden Prime,
- Death of Jenkins,
- Introduce Ashley (and Geth),
- Death Of Nilus/Sarans appearence,
- Uncovering Becon.. John Shepard's vision...
- Shep wakes up-talks with anderson,
- Go to citidel,
- Council side with Saran due to lack of proof, Introduce Tali - Introduce Garrus - Introduce Wrex, Tali's proof for council puts Saran on the run.
ACT II (the trickiest act)
next 40 mins:
Upon some direct character development taking place aboard Normandy - Crew split two ways
Introduce Sub plot-'Therum'
Normandy (after arriving and departing from Noveria leaving Shep, Garrus and Wrex ), travels to Therum with Joker, Ashley, Tali in character focus.
Introduce Main plot-'Noveria'
John Shepard, Wrex, Garrus and Kaiden in character focus while on Noveria
Re-Inroduce Sub plot-'Therum'
Re-Inroduce Main plot-Noveria
next 20 mins
Re-Introduce Subplot-'Normandy'
Ashley and Crew make way for Noveria with Liara to help the already in peril Shepard and crew
Re-Introduce Main plot-Noveria
Next 40 mins
Side not: Wrex's death will probably be dealt with in a different way as his death is focused on the flexibility of 'convincing' and 'threatening' aspects of the game play, and this is not a factor here. He will surely die though.. as this will pull at our heart strings.
Next 30 mins
- Act III
- Ashley and crew uncover Liara in ruins.
- Liara explains.
- Shep and crew (at Noveria Port) find out info about Benezia and Peak 15.
- They encounter Geth, they begin to deal with Rahni and Peak 15 crisis)
- Shep Crew and Ashley Crew interweave at some sort of meeting point before Benezia confronation(including Liara)
- Sencond act concludes with Benezia showdown
- Council intervene, instruct distress signal from Virmire to be dealt with.
- Normandy goes to Virmire,
- Crew meet Captain Kirrahe-learn of Saran's cloning Facility-Initiate attack on it with Salerians
- After some battle sequences-Shepard confrontation with Sovereign.
- Normandy drops off Nuke-Shep leaves to save Ash
- Shepard and Saran confrontation
- Heroic Kaidin dies in the nuke blast as Normandy whisks away.
- Return to Citidel - Normandy lockdown - Anderson heroics
- Destination Ilos - Shepard/Williams romantics
- Legendary drop off on Ilos
- Chase Saran - Meet vigil
- Vigil reveals all
- Rush to the Conduit
- Citidel Destruction sequence
- Saran and Shepard confrontation
- Sovereign destruction (By Joker, can not WAIT to see that)
- Epic ending
And that concludes what could be an amazing movie, around 2 and half hours long.
I don't have any additional comments really apart from the un-necessary plot holes such as visiting Feros.
This mission is not essential in forwarding the plot apart from one minor section when Shiala clears up Shepard's vision via asari powers/biotics. This can easily be filled.
Whats peoples thoughts?

[*]I think Act I (the first 40 minutes) is spot on.
[*]Act II (the next 60 minutes) is displayed very well. I like the idea of spliting into two teams so that Ashley, Tali, and the rest of the crew save Liara while Shepard, Kaidan, Garrus, and Wrex depart to Noveria to find Benezia and then have Ashley, Tali, and Liara join in to have all seven characters battle against Benezia.
[*]However, I was confused with parts of Act II & Act III. In Act II, why does the setup have to shift to Wrex's ultimate demise for the next 40 minutes? What also seemed odd for me was the time span for Act III - 30 minutes is not enough to show all the topics you had listed:
[*]- Council intervene, instruct distress signal from Virmire to be dealt with.
[*]- Normandy goes to Virmire,
[*]- Crew meet Captain Kirrahe-learn of Saren's cloning Facility-Initiate attack on it with Salarians
[*]- After some battle sequences-Shepard confrontation with Sovereign.
[*]- Normandy drops off Nuke-Shep leaves to save Ash
[*]- Shepard and Saren confrontation
[*]- Heroic Kaidan dies in the nuke blast as Normandy whisks away.
[*]- Return to Citadel - Normandy lockdown - Anderson heroics
[*]- Destination Ilos - Shepard/Williams romantics
[*]- Legendary drop off on Ilos
[*]- Chase Saren - Meet vigil
[*]- Vigil reveals all
[*]- Rush to the Conduit
[*]- Citidel Destruction sequence
[*]- Saren and Shepard confrontation
[*]- Sovereign destruction (By Joker, can not WAIT to see that)
[*]- Epic ending
If Act III was to be 70-80 minutes long, with Wrex's death (as you say) being only 2 - 5 of the 70 - 80 minutes, that would be perfect for a 3 hr movie (40+60+80 min.)
I do have some suggestions. If you believe that Feros is an unimportant mission that can be easily filled, could Feros be made the first mission in Act II for 5 - 10 minutes of the 60 minutes? Also, what Shepard & Liara romance? It may be better for the movie to have Shepard and Ashley romance, but come on, who wouldn't like Shepard & Liara love?

I do have some suggestions. If you believe that Feros is an unimportant mission that can be easily filled, could Feros be made the first mission in Act II for 5 - 10 minutes of the 60 minutes? Also, what Shepard & Liara romance? It may be better for the movie to have Shepard and Ashley romance, but come on, who wouldn't like Shepard & Liara love?

next 20/25 mins:
- Shep wakes up-talks with anderson,
- Go to citidel,
- Council side with Saran due to lack of proof,
- Introduce Tali - Introduce Garrus - Introduce Wrex, Tali's proof for council puts Saran on the run.
ACT II
next 60 mins:
Upon some direct character development taking place aboard Normandy - Crew split two ways

ACT III
next 30 mins

- After some battle sequences-Shepard confrontation with Sovereign.
- Normandy drops off Nuke-Shep leaves to save Ash
- Shepard and Saran confrontation
- Heroic Kaidin dies in the nuke blast as Normandy whisks away.
Side not: Wrex's death will probably be dealt with in a different way as his death is focused on the flexibility of 'convincing' and 'threatening' aspects of the game play, and this is not a factor here. He will surely die though.. as this will pull at our heart strings.
next 20 minslast 20 mins
- Return to Citidel - Normandy lockdown - Anderson heroics
- Destination Ilos - Shepard/Williams romantics
- Legendary drop off on Ilos
- Chase Saran - Meet vigil
- Vigil reveals all
Epic ending
- Rush to the Conduit
- Citidel Destruction sequence
- Saran and Shepard confrontation
Sovereign destruction (By Joker, can not WAIT to see that)
And that concludes what could be an amazing movie, around 2 and half / 3 hours long.
I don't have any additional comments really apart from the un-necessary plot holes such as visiting Feros. This mission is not essential in forwarding the plot apart from one minor section when Shiala clears up Shepard's vision via asari powers/biotics. This can easily be filled.
Whats peoples thoughts?
[*]1. If Feros had to be used in the movie, what would you do and how long would that take?
[*]2. Why not some r&r w/ Shepard & Liara instead?

I actually thought the Prince of Persia movie was pretty good even though I never played any of the Prince of Persia games.ElitesamuraI26 wrote...

I agree, SW TOR cenimatics looked great. Bio has the best CGI cinematics in the gaming industry (only behind blizzard) imo. a film made out of their quality of CGI would kick butt, not only does it remove the potential of bad acting but they can make any sequence exactly the way they wanted.

To be honest a movie based ON one of the games wouldn't play out very good, because everyone would compare them to their own personal game experience. if it was base between the games or before/after then that would be fine (if you really wanted a bunch of the game characters in it). but if it was exactly based on a game they would need to skip a lot of pointless running around traveling and tasks that you needed to do to lead up to the final boss on each planet, and thats something people wouldnt like they would complain (oh they didnt do this, but in the game we had to go here)
so i feel the best way to go would be after ME 1 or after ME2 if they wanted the game characters in the movie, and just assume that most of them survived (besides kaiden no should take kaiden over ashley lol)
