I just read through the first page and skipped a lot of this thread. But I personally don't see the problem with just using the original story. Just use the paragon path without the side quests. I really really don't see an issue with it.

Actually what they could do is select a few scenes then film alternate renegade sequences and keep them for the Blu-ray DVD and let the viewer splice it together

First, ME2 and ME are my all time favorite games and Bioware is my
favorite studio so the following is what I believe is best for them and
us gamers. Okay, if you look at any game that has been turned into a
movie, it has either failed in production and never was created, or
failed to replicate3 the game and became a dud. If Bioware of whoever
were willing to send the amount of money put into making movies like
StarWars or AVATAR, it was be a success. The sad truth isw they dont
have that money to spend and therefore will produce it with a relatively
low budget in it will turn out BAD! Sorry but my vote goes against this
and I hope it fails before production... If this must happen though, I
trust Bioware will make good decisions, one of those being to make this
movie a prequel (like First Contact War or discovering Prothean tech on
Mars). Also, if you could include the early stages of the creation of
Cerberus I would be happy...and #1, YVONNE STRAHOVSKI
MUST BE IN THIS MOVIE (she is Miranda, they look the same, and it is her
voice). Anyone ever seen CHUCK, she is amazing and soooo HOT!

I'd say base the movie between the first and second game, that way it can have an original story and not p**s off too many people. As for the cast, I say make Shepard a guy and use Christian Bale to play Shepard (for those who dont know he is, watch Batman Begins and Dark Knight. And for those who want to argue, go see Terminator Salvation. He looks just like Shepard with a shaved head man!) Of course Seth Green will have to be Joker, and get the guy who played Hellboy (sry cant remember his name right this second) to play Wrex. Aww yeah...this movie's gonna be sweet!

I hope I am correct in assuming this will take a story set in the ME universe, rather than one of the games as it's basis? Because the game stories translate rather badly into film due to their open-ended choice-driven nature. :)

Yes, yes. B)

Female Shepard? That sucks, canonnicaly, Shepard is a badass, a soldier, a male. Females are too erm.. soft for this job, they don't have a guts! :). They put FemShep into game, cause they were scared of anti-racist actions from females and aliens invasion from Venus :) <joke>

In past someone from Bioware said that there is a major interest from movie companies and that Bioware does not want it to be a good movie but a great movie so I trust you guys on those words that they were not only PR and that you know what you are doing...oh and may I suggest Chris Nolan for director seat?

hundreds of hours

Hundreds of hours? There isn't even 50 hours in ME1+ME2 with all DLC's.
That's more like a very expanded FPS, than classical RPG like Gothic.

Well you must have rushed through the game then, my first playthrough of ME1 was 70 hours, and I didn't even do everything there was to do. There were tons of side missions, extras you stumbled upon... I'll grant ME2 didn't have that, which is why alot of ME1 fnas were sort of disappointed with it, but it certainly brought out the shooter crowd, didn't it?

I guess I was wrong back when I first got ME and declared to my husband "FINALLY an RPG that isn't sword and spell that I can really get into!" because it certainly seems like they keep shrinking and narrowing the focus, doesn't it? No more hours of endless space exploration, finding derelict ships with crazy ladies who attack you, discovering secret Cerberus terrorist cells ....

Nope, now we make it more linear, remove choices, pre-path everything, and next we are going to scale it back further and make it a movie and show you the correct way to have played! Oh thank you for that, because I was really doing it all wrong before. *rolls eyes*

Great...my fantasies of shepherd have been obliterated. Id only go see the movie if the male shep model is in it. I don't care if he sucks at acting he's hot. Period.

I'll reserve my judgement, but unless a great writer and a great director are attached to this, I don't see how this can possibly turn out to be a good movie. Every video game movie ever made has been mediocre at best. I'd love it if this was the movie to break the mold, but I won't be holding my breath.

You have Ray and Greg on as producers? That right there has be so excited for the movie! NO WAY are they going to let someone ruin their space franchise they worked so hard on. This is going to be awesome!

I think Matthew Fox would make a good Shepard. He's a great actor and looks a lot like him.

I wonder if they'll play with the red/blue themes of the game. Also I wonder if they'll add the dualities of the game, ie, if Shepard decides to let the council live or die.

No ****enhall! No Keanu! No Channing F-ing Tatum! And I doubt Johnny Depp will shave his head. I would like to see a realative unknown play Shepard. Maybe Sam Worthington. I think he would do a nice job. Don't yank us around like the Halo movie. I know just because the rights have been sold doesn't mean a movie will be made.

Not that my opinion is much here on page 13, but I enthusiastically endorse the possibility so long as bioware keeps firm creative control on it. A Shepard free movie storyline would probably be easiest, but wouldn't be as good a film. Here's to hoping they finish 3 first.

Hmmm....I wonder what sort of setting it would take place in. I can almost imagine Martin Sheen and Yvonne Strahovski re-enacting the ME2 intro scene if they go in that direction. If anything, it would be interesting how they incorporate the alien species into the mix. Anyhow, I'm not busting my balls on this idea since every movie based on a video game hasn't hyped me up one bit.

Well the citadel is about 6 hours of gameplay... that whole place can be cut down to ten minutes. I could see them just showing off the citadel then meeting with the council. Unfortunately they may cut some characters.. or not. Cut out the mako as anything other then a way to get from A-B. There is so much to rim out. If you take an action movie and turn it into a 16hr game you are adding a ton of combat. Strip the combat down to the essentials of the story, then put your combat in where it helps the story. Can be done well with the right cast and director.
