My vote for Alenko - Victor Webster
(based on looks, have no idea what his acting is like)

Like Lost much? I'm the opposite I won't see it if Matthew Fox is cast as Shep... why? 1. I have zero homerism for the television series he starred in 2. I'd rather Shep look like the hero he's meant to be than just an average 'nice guy'.

(no really I will see it but I won't be happy that they passed on better options)

Matthew Fox should is the best option for Shepard. Just imagine him in the N7 armor, it'd be godly.

yeah, but talks like a girl, would be hard to command respect when he opens his mouth and all you hear is little tiny voice

haha sooo true... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so... He doesn't seem to be a BA. Maybe if he played  renegade and shoot straight away instead of talking he would be ok.

I agree.

I'd go and see any move based on the ME universe except one based on Shepard, whether its a female Shepard or a Male Shepard.

I'd go and see a movie about Alenko in Brain camp or Joker going through pilot training, any number of other stories that are available.  But not Shepard's.

Any video game where you can define your character should not be the basis of a movie where the character is going to be set in stone.  JMO  but I stand by it.

Again, how would it ruin the idea of the game if Shepard was in the movie??? Details people! WHY? AND HOW? Yes I have common sense but how would having Commander Shepard in the movie ruin anything? I want to see Shepard in the movie! As you can see, I support Commander Shepard!

Seriously, a Mass Effect movie only about a back story and no Commander Shepard? How boring! It needs to be like here is some past events like the "first contact war" or Skylian Blitz" or whatever past event that could show during the movie that we did not see in the game, and then it could fast forward into the present to where Commander Shepard is doing what he does best or somthing like that. I think most of you hopefully get what Im talking about, past to present kind of stuff to show whats going on from what we know in the game, to where it shows things we did not see during the game. I dont think the whole movie should be about some big story we did not see during the game because that would be too boring and theres no Commander Shepard in action.

.....In the future when the movie finally comes out... but with no Shepard...
(Family member asking about Mass Effect because he saw the movie but has not played the game) So I hear you played Mass Effect, did you like it? (Me) Oh man, its the best game I have played! (Family member) Well, I saw the movie and I was wondering who was Commander Shepard because I been hearing people gossip that he should have been in the movie.
(Me)Wheres Commander Shepard you ask? Oh, hes not in the movie because most of the so called "fans" did not want him in the movie... (family member) What the...really? Im suprised they did not want to see the main character of the story even though its already in the game, I guess they just did not like him.

Like I said, they might as well put a question mark on Shepards face on the cover of the Mass Effect games.

The Refined List (ME 1 & 2 Characters Reduced)

(Note: The refined list does not have a particular order, but is reduced tremendously. Depending on the character, the roster of actor/actresses will either be condensed to a minimum of 5 and maximum of 25 actors/actresses who would be better for a specific role (such as John Shepard) or one actor/actress that should be destined to play their character counterpart (such as Carrie Ann-Moss as Aria T’Loak).  However, there are some that I can’t put a definite role on because of the limited choices on it. Also, all of the voice actors who only play a very small part in the ME universe is taken out of the refined list to show the protagonists, squad members, known actors/actresses playing supporting roles, and antagonists.  Some VA’s are included in the refined list.)

MASS EFFECT

Here's John:
1. Henry Cavill - 2. Sam Worthington - 3. Christian Bale - 4. Matthew Fox -
5. Gerard Butler - 6. Chris Evans - 7. Andy Whitfield - 8. Brian Austin Green -
9. Karl Urban - 10. Chris Hemsworth - 11. Scott Foley - 12. Ryan Reynolds -
13. Jim Caviezel - 14. Matt Damon - 15. Chris O’Donnell - 16. Chris Pine -
17. Tahmoh Penikett - 18. Ryan Gosling - 19. Orlando Bloom - 20. Jensen Ackles –
21. Josh Hartnett – 22. Jamie Bamber – 23. Michael Trucco – 24. Joe Flanigan –
25. Bradley Cooper

I fixed your list :P

Mass Effect as the base for a film got a few advantages over alot of other computer game adaptations. First is Shepard himself/herself. They really can cast ANYONE and get away with it. :)

Second is nature of the story. Hero gathers band of misfits and save universe from evil robots is a prety robust and stright forward plot. The main holes they got to avoid is A) Trying to fit too many characters in. B) Devating too much from the main game plot (the hole the Mario film fell down) C) trying to fit too many subplots in.

The question is which of the sidekicks, npc and plot lines do you think make a good film plot without causing the film to get too lengthy or the character/plot lines too short?

Or to put it another way.... do you want 30 mins of Garrus, Ashley and Kaidan plot time or would you rather see 15 mins of Wrex, Garrus, Ashley, Kaidan and Tali with 30 mins of Liara?

Ok i think a Mass Effect movie sounds like a great idea but they gotta get the paragon/renegade right oh and for the record i think christian bale would be a pretty good Shep. Not to mention getting the subplots balanced right too. And not changing how aliens look or how the costumes look like they did in the new avatar: the last airbender movie, they should keep garrus looking like garrus and mordin like mordin and tali looking like tali and so on.

I love games; I love movies; I love the concept of movies based on games; I just hope they A) learn from what's already out there, B) either change the plot or stick to what already exists like glue, and C) maintain epicness.

Not fussed if they have a 'Shephard' in there; he/she's more of a symbol than a precise person anyhow! As long as they make some sort of reference to the Shephard of awesomeness, I'm sure it will be peachy. And if 300 is anything to judge by, awesomely violent, and slow-mo.

Ah yes, a post I strongly agree with, we have proven this claim! :D

Hmm, I could do with a "I support Commander Shepard and Epicness in the Mass Effect Movie" type banner...

We don't want an unknown in the lead role. It will doom the movie. Sam Worthington is not a good actor, he just simply lucked out with Avatar. How was he in Clash of th Titans? Crap, Terminator Salvation? Crap. Henry Cavill? You're kidding me right? Matthew Fox is a good pick, I can live with Jon Hamm, Christian Bale may be too intense for the role, but also remember Shepard is around 28 when the events of Mass Effect begin according to the codex.

The sheer size, scope and story length of the ME universe really wouldn't fit into a movie format. You'd need a trilogy just to cover everything in ME1, let alone ME2 and who knows what ME3 would bring. Plus with background (Contact War, etc) you'd be up to, what, ten movies? Twelve?

I think it would be better to go with a high-production value TV series for SyFy network with a movie tie-in at the end (see also: Firefly + Serenity). That would be the only way you could truly do justice to the ME story & universe. Otherwise Bioware & crew would have to leave 95% of everything on the cutting room floor to make it all fit into the Hollywood standard format.

"Band of Brothers" is another good example. Even done at top-notch movie production values it still stretches out for around nine or ten hours. Again, that's the kind of production doing ME right would require. Again, using BoB as an example, not only can it be done this way but the success of BoB shows that such a lengthy format can still be financially lucrative for the producers.

Matthew Fox as Shepard? I've never seen a full episode of Lost so I can't say if he would be good for the part or not. But I'd rather have Legendary to have a decent screenplay before they're gonna start casting.

1. I disagree this is the perfect movie to cast an unknown in the lead (so long as they can act of course).

2. I agree I don't think Worthington would be a good pick (not for Shepard anyway.) He does have Legendary connections though which could put him in the running.

3. You're argument here is solid

4. Yes Fox is a good pick but not the best, he is too soft kind of like a young Richard Gere. Shepard, assuming they base him on the default, has a very strong face. People have to follow him not befriend him in limbo.

My main concern with Christian Bale is that he is too bigger name and associated so heavily with the Batman franchise. I want to feel like I'm watching 'Mass Effect' not 'Christian Bale'.

And I thought you said you didn't want unknowns? Who's Jon Hamm?

I would love for Gerard Butler to play Shepard. He's epicness ever since 300. He can play romantic, comedy, angry, serious, action. He can really give Shepard an emotion.
