Here's the problem. Shepard has the face of Mark Vanderloo, but Mark Vanderloo can't act. Ashley and Kaidan's voice actors DO NOT look like the characters - those characters need actors. Same w/ Liara & Benezia - they may have good voice acting, but they are being voiced by somebody much older. Tali, Wrex, Garrus and most of the other characters could have VA's, but that's determined.

I don't think I need to say anything about Anderson & Joker.

Shepard, Ash, Kaidan, and Udina could all be regular actors. 

Tali could be played by the person who played her with some makeup and the suit.

Liara, Garrus, Wrex, and Saren will be played by two people. One will be a stunt-double of sorts who plays out the character's movements, and is then replaced by a CG character in post-production.

Anderson can still be played by Kieth David, but he'll need some makeup to make him look much older.

Joker is the only person who can be played by their voice actor on-screen. Seth Green is the obvious and easy choice.

Don't we all want our own story for the movie? The truth is that its not going to happen because so many people have different Commander Shepard stories, so that is why it is going to most likey be about the default/"canon" Commander Shepard. Look at my profile photo of the default Commander Shepard on the left hand side that Bioware had created for me, I have nothing against it at all. I don't see a good Mass Effect movie without the good ol default Commander Shepard Bioware had created for us.

Considering all things, you make a fair point. They can't exactly run around making a million different endings.
I do wonder, however, whether Shep will be male/female. That's gonna make a lot of difference to a lot of people, is my guess.

And this may've been asked already, but is there a ballpark release date floating anywhere?

I'd guess around Late-2012 or Early 2013. A little while after the third game comes out.

It's too early to tell how good it might be, but I've enjoyed some of Legendary's work, and I have quite a few games in my library with Bioware's name on them, so I'd say they have a better chance than most.

Edit: Legendary is also working on a WoW movie with Blizzard Entertainment....

Time will tell.

agreed, they cannot make a million different movies, plus this has to be a movie appealing to non-fans as well, and as good as the other ME stories are, none are as interesting and have as much potential as the default shepard does.  Plus the rights of the 1st ME story was optioned, that means ME 1.

Not excited at all, no video game movie has ever turned out to be a quality movie...much too hard to do the video game stories justice in a 2-3 hour movie...and Mass Effect of all games? Absolutely not....no chance in HECK that they will even come close to doing the series justice PERIOD....not to mention they will most likely hire some damn rapper to play Jacob....or find a reason to add a rapper...
