Why do so many people not want a Mass Effect movie about Shepard? How can they make a Mass Effect movie not about Commander Shepard? I for one love the default soldier Shepard.

People are just being ignorant and for some reason *think* ( I use the term loosely) that if a movie is made with Commander Shepard that, whatever gender/background/archtype they use in the movie will become canon for everything else in the games.

I think the fear is the movie and the decisions made within it will become the most common point of reference with millions of people who watched the movie but didn’t experience the video game. It should not be missed that these new viewers would not know about the Mass Effect universe otherwise.

I got a good idea. Why not make the movie about the Skylian Blitz? This is how the legend of Shepard is born after all. On a side note, Mass Effect 2 OST # 24 - The End Run would make an awesome opening credit theme.

I don't mind if Shepard is in it. I mean who cares... well obviously quite a few people but seriously. It's a movie based off of a game where you make your own story line. It's not like they have to follow a person's story in order to be good. It's their game, their franchise and if they want to make a movie showing a direct storyline of what really happened...be my guest. As long as it's good I'll go see it.



They are already golden in my book for not letting that god awful Uwe Boll or the other not as awful but still pretty awful Paul WS Anderon direct or even breath on it.

Awful writing,  poor pacing, sub-par acting from 80% of the cast, and the fact that Shyamalan is generally a bonehead ruined the Last Airbender movie. Not the fact that it was live-action.

This.....it was really bad. The live action choreography was about the only interesting thing.

Nah I don't think so, its more of ending music like for the Suicide Mission, it gives a feeling of all Shepard and the team have been through. 

I would go for the Mass Effect Theme on Mass Effect 1, as that is the actual theme and theme tunes are normally used for the opening and it introduces Mass Effect in a really good way, like it did for Mass Effect 1.

If you want CGI go and play the game.

A movie about the last air bender has nothing to do with a movie about Mass Effect.

If live action air bender movie was bad, it was probably because the actors, writing and director were bad and not because it was live action. What makes a movie good or bad a generally the story (most important), actor's skills, director's skills, qualitiy of sets & costumes & make up & SFX & VFX and not if its live action or  CGI.

the dufault shep is just a face for marketing, most people use custom sheps and different backgrounds, different choices, LIs ect. alot of people have put alot of effort into their characters, more than 30+ hours, to some fans it just wont feel right like its not really shepard. besides, the mass effect game is basically an interactive movie, its best just to base it on the books or one of mass effect's many historical events.

- nope, but at least i control of what my Shepard is saying or doing and in a movie i can't

-I did too but only on my first playtrough  tho


I'm not against a Mass Effect movie but they should base it on an event and not on Shepard,
besides 90% of the time they Screw things up so badly that you almost not want to play the game anymore.
And most of the time they release a crap follow up game based on the movie with the main PC being the one from the movie.
wich will even put off the last few people still enjoying the games before it

but this is just my opinion

This announcement makes me excited and worried. I'm excited because the MEverse is vast and filled with story and history that could be made into epic films. I'm worried that the movie will be about the Shepard storyline and instantly set a "proper canon" for the storyline.

Please do a trilogy starting from Prothean Ruin discovery on Mars through First Contact War.

I so completely agree with you, I love Joker and Seth Green.  I also think that the beginning of the movie should start with the first contact war for backgroud purposes, but should be about the universe and Shep.  I want to see him on the big screen.

Now there's an interesting idea,
i like it way more than following the Shepard storyline for obvious reasons
But i'm afraight Hollywood is going to take the easy route and go with Shepard since he's already  a set character
and well known to us ME players
and that way they can make more money of it since they don't have to create a new ''Hero'' 
and i bet they will pick a few favorite characters as well and indeed by doing so set a canon for ME

Seriously? It will just be messed up.

They'll use CGI with motion capture probably, like on Pirates of the Caribbean with Davy Jones, he was done using motion capture with extreme detail, and that came off as a huge success 

Asari will just need makeup and head sculpture onto the actor.

I bet when the movie comes out and it turns out to be very good even though if Shepard was in it, people that didn't want Shepard in the movie are still going to be complaining and this thread will become like 500 pages long or even more lol.
I think the movie should feature 2 or more historical events that had happened in the mass effect universe plus a big part in Shepard's storyline.

The ME storyline is a much more epic, deep story that has much more potential in my opinion than something like the first contact war. When I picture the first contact war I see a mediocre black hawk down type movie in a sci-fi universe. Also Mass Effect just doesn't really feel like Mass Effect without a Commander Shepard.
