Boo! Our stories will be encroached on, by giving a defining roll and "canon" as the movie is concerned. I am not pleased to hear this news, as I have been dreading it since finishing Mass Effect for the first time.

What are you talking about? Movie adaptations of videogames create their own separate timeline canon. The Mario Bros. movie is not canon. The Mortal Kombat movies are not canon. Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Street Fighter, Tomb Raider... None of these game-movies encroach on the games. They're recreations, retellings.

It'll be fun. =]

Why don't you guys just reserve judgment until the movie actually comes out, or at the very least until we get some real information on it?

Because we are the internet - that is what we do, we get unusually mad and irrate about things mentioned that may occur in the far distant future, because if we don't we will just have to go back to work.

Image IPB

And if they didn't want to hear what we have to say or read about our reactions, there would be no forums and much less a social site...

And no matter how irrate we get, we're still here, playing, buying your games and loving every minute of it.
The fact that we so passionate is a GOOD thing, believe it or not. ^_^

I was aiming it more at the people who were outright condemning the thing, when all we have is a statement saying "hey guys, we're making a movie."

Discussion is ok, even if it gets a bit ridiculous. Well, not just a bit. A LOT ridiculous.

That is absolutely amazing, too good to be true. I can't wait to see how this all develops! I always knew that the Mass Effect Universe had the depth for a motion picture. I just wondered when someone would take advantage of that.

I love the idea of them doing a movie on the First Contact War or the Rachni Wars.. Or even a story taking place during the genophage.. But I don't want them to tell the story of Shepard.. They have said they would never tell his story. So I am hoping they will stick to their word and do one of the other stories that are available to them..

This "movie" should be aimed at those, whose Shepards died at the end of ME2, since they won't be able to play ME3. And it should tell us the story of Joker saving the galaxy. And failing. And TIM crying in the end. That's the only way I'm biting

Hence the reason I said "as far as the movie is concerned."

And we don't need a recreation, because we can do that ourselves by playing the game AGAIN. This does not need existence. Watch the Asari be red and the Quarians living without enviro-suits. It'll happen, I tell you.

I don't see why people are scratching their heads over the length issue. Cut out the crap side missions, and the collectables, don't ask any questions, skip all the cutscenes and ME1 is tiny small. I did casual playthrough once in about 4h30-5h.

Cut out the gameplay entirely and there's probably less than an hour and a half of cutscene/dialogue.

The first couple of times you waste half the game asking stupid questions - "what's a prothean", "do geth fry their memory cores"?. etc.

It's ME2 that's the real issue because it's nowhere near as focussed (i.e. tailor made for a movie) as the side missions are integral to the main plot and if it were a movie it would need to be about 3hrs long. ME1 could be done easily in about 90 mins.

I know, that's why it's going to be awesome.
It'll be like a glorified fan video with Freddie Prinze Jr. as Shepard. :P

By the way guys, Avi has said it'll be Shepard's story. Don't go thinking it's otherwise.

LMAO! Okay, I'll go see that version, too. I love Joker... unless of course they don't cast Seth Green as him.... oh the humanity!

Until a director or a writer is announced, I don't really care, since this happens all the time, and then nothing happens. Still, I don't really have much to get excited about, since these movies happen the same way, and end the same way. Aka, very badly.

Here how it goes:

Movie is announced with producers going to produce it.

An unknown writer, or a hack writer is hired to write the script.

Things remain quiet for 2 or 3 years.

Writer is then replaced by another writer.

A director is attached, then leaves because of creative reasons.

Another director is attached, who's a gun-for-hire kind of director that's doing it for the job.

Movie is made, and it's either a piece of ****, or very mah. Only the fans will care, and they hate it.

Either way, it is what it is. Which is a commercial for the game, in name only.

I won't hold my breath about it.
I just hope they make a movie about First Contact War or Rachni Wars instead of making a movie with Shepard in it.

I would say Christian Bale as Commander Shepard, and Captain Anderson as Keith David :D

LET THERE BE FEMALE SHEPARD! XD

(please???)

Personally, I thought that if this was to be done it should be done using CG, so that the DVD/Blu-Ray formats could come with two versions... one for female and one for male Shepard. Because switching the models doesn't seem too daunting (wishful thinking?) and Shepard isn't Shepard without Jennifer ... See MoreHale voicing her!

If it is live action... I vote for Milla Jovovich as Commander Shepard because her roles in Fifth Element and Resident Evil earned her the right to play a permanent bad ass like Shepard! :D But who would play Liara as her love interest... I don't know... ;D

Read above. It's going to be a Shepard-centric movie, apparently.

I AM SO EXCITED but i want it to be exactly like the game most of the movies based on games or on comics they make them completly wrong they need to somehow use the people who did the voices in the game to do the characters or use no name actors but all i can say is that they better get it right because if they dont there will be alot of pissed off people another thing is that the characters need to look exactly like they do in the game so please dont dissapoint us

You have Ray and Greg on as producers? That right there has be so excited for the movie! NO WAY are they going to let someone ruin their space franchise they worked so hard on. This is going to be awesome!

Sure its nice that the BioWare guys are on board. But this is Avi Arad we're dealing with. The guy responsible for mucking up X-Men 3 and Spiderman 3. The writer supposedly tasked with the script is the guy who mucked up I Am Legend.

Pardon me if I'm not jumping for joy.

/facepalm

Valid concerns but not facepalm worthy.

Ok... If they get Bale for Shepard and Jessica Alba for Liara, i'll watch this. Also, i'll buy the Collector's Edition if we get Alba's rear in blue paint.

Yes, they should totally hire pretty stand-ins to do the movements and have our voice actors dubbed over them! It'll be AWESOME! /sarcasm

You here that banging sound?

It's Drew Karpyshyn banging his head against the side of the former Chernobyl Power Plant, trying to escape this horror.

Let me say that please make it a prequel? Because if you f*** up Shepherd, you f*** up the entirety of the franchise; why not make it about the advancement of man and the First Contact war? That would be good, what would not be good is this:

(Yeah I used MS paint, wanna fight about it?)

Must have Tali love, we are the majority!

Unless it's first contact war, if so, that should keep the 14 year old's from whining about how their basement dwelling "Shepard" is better than Sheploo (a true dutch badass).

It's easy, don't like sheploo? Don't see it. Hell, even if he romances Ash, I'll see it. I trust Bioware won't make a "Doom" movie. It might be about Akuze anyhow.
