In this outline, I've trimmed out Liara's world (Maybe Sheppard could contact Liara from the Citadel and meet her at Noveria or something like that). Fighting the Geth at Feros could work as the beginning of the second movie, but probably trim out the Thorian.
Movie 1: Eden Prime, Citadel, Noveria - climax would be the fight with Benezia.
Movie 2: Feros (just fighting the Geth, cut out the Thorian and have Sheppard retrieve data from the Geth base), Virmire, Ilos, Citadel
Alternately, though it would require a lot more changes, Virmire could be the climax of the first movie. I think that would be a better cliffhanger ending, with the true magnitude of Sovereign's threat being revealed, but it would probably cause too many problems in adjusting the plot.

I agree that it would be better to have it as something else set in the ME universe rather than being straight out of the games, but I did a mental exercise a few days ago for how the firs game could be split into two movies. Obviously, even the stuff that I'm keeping in here will need to be simplified to make it fit realistically.

I really doubt they will split ME1 into two movies. You could honestly combine the events of a couple of planets onto one to cut the time down more for one 2.5 - 3 hour movie. Just my opinion.

As long as they get to keep the movie close to Mass Effect lore it will be great.
Oh yeah.. Get Seth green to actually play the Joker.. That'd be so awesome!

It's more likely for Ashley to be saved on Virmire than Kaidan.Nazara wrote...
Oh ye this is a good question. If the movie is based on the game (which i don't really mind unless they mess the actors and voices up) then people will argue about who gets saved on Virmire - Ashley or Kaidan?

For the sake of the romance subplot, Ashley. I'm pretty darn sure Shepard will be male, due to that being pretty much the default Shep.
Still, a Mass Effect movie. Huh. Not quite sure what to say about it, since the books and comic series cover a prequel and sort-of sequel. It could be what happened to the squad members after Shepard's death, but with Liara's part of that done, Garrus, Wrex, Joker and Ashley aren't an incredible lot to go on. Unless you give the random soldiers of the Normandy some form of importance.
I dunno. I'm hesitant to say I won't like it if it's based off the events of the first game, since it'd probably impress me anyway, but if it does, there's no sense of the Shepard you see on screen acting things out like you personally would want.
I'm hoping for something that happens a lot in Star Wars' galaxy - where there's a new story every time a new piece of media comes out because of how large it is. I can see Mass Effect turning into something like that, really.

No. No. No.
Not unless Jacob dies screaming horribly in the first 5 minutes before that douchebag has the opportunity to ad-lib his undeserved ego into the role.

I love the Mass Effect series, but I do not think having a storyline that matches the games would do the series justice on the big screen, but rather lower it to the level of other movie adaptations of videogames, which typically receive poor reviews. I believe a Mass Effect movie needs to appeal to a wide audience and not just those of us who play the games in order to be considered a success. Does that mean that the movie should be dumbed down for audiences unfamiliar with the series? Absolutely not, rather I think a Mass Effect movie or movies should focus on humanity's introduction to the galaxy, for example the First Contact War and the conflicts with the Batarians in the verge. In doing so, fans of the games could learn more about the galaxy and lore, while those unfamiliar with the series could be introduced to the galaxy without resulting in confusion. However, if a Mass Effect movie is made that is based on the storyline, a long introduction may be necessary to benefit those unfamiliar with the series.

To be honest I bet she would be begging for a big role like this, because seriously, she is making this kind of stuff:

Well I don't know about how much she'd need to beg for the part since Liara was modeled after her face and body but I'd agree that a Mass Effect role would be a great step up for her career.

I understand your points, but I really do think they'll do it based on the game. A lot of companies go for that with insert-media-here-to-movie adaptations. Even Metal Gear, which had its first game remade as The Twin Snakes already, is getting one for the Shadow Moses Incident.Spinotech wrote...
Call me a pessimist, but I think basing a Mass Effect movie on the plot of the games, which most people seem to have fixated on, would be a mistake. It's not the whole that's not my Shepard, but rather I think the Mass Effect movie should expand upon the galaxy and not retread the same ground as the games. Second, all of us who play the game know the storyline and the codex, but what about viewers unfamiliar with the Mass Effect galaxy? I fear that viewers would avoid the movie because they do not understand it, which would reduce box office earnings. Along those lines, if critics do not understand the movie they may rate it unfavorably.

As I said, though, something that covers new ground with every outing would be awesome. Star Wars style. When Bioware made KotOR (using that example since it's the Bioware forum, so we'd know a little more about that than others), they covered new ground, not just something based around the Episode 2 movie or whatever. I really would love to see them pull off something completely new, but the feeling I'm getting is that it'll be a remake. Much as I hate to say it.
