I AM SO EXCITED but i want it to be exactly like the game most of the movies based on games or on comics they make them completly wrong they need to somehow use the people who did the voices in the game to do the characters or use no name actors but all i can say is that they better get it right because if they dont there will be alot of pissed off people another thing is that the characters need to look exactly like they do in the game so please dont dissapoint us

... First, I'm gonna be a jerk. Have you ever heard of a period? That was one gigantic sentence.

Then, I'm gonna agree. I would like a CG version so that we could have to same voices, just with super-fancy high-def character models. But if they do the casting well, a live-action movie could be pretty awesome.

What does some of the BioWare team serving as producers even mean? That they just paid some people off, and so names can be thrown around for a false sense of hope?

Must have Tali love, we are the majority!

Unless it's first contact war, if so, that should keep the 14 year old's from whining about how their basement dwelling "Shepard" is better than Sheploo (a true dutch badass).

It's easy, don't like sheploo? Don't see it. Hell, even if he romances Ash, I'll see it. I trust Bioware won't make a "Doom" movie. It might be about Akuze anyhow.

Problem with you being the majority, is that all other factions combined outnumber you and will fight against that.

It should mean that the two top guys at BioWare and the creator of the Mass Effect story  will be approving or disapproving ideas.

It was more of a joke than a demand.

Like I said, I really don't care, I just want a respectable ME movie.

It wasn't Avi who said it, but it is implied by the guys at Legendary: "Mass Effect is a tremendous property ripe for translation to the big screen," said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures, in a statement. "Mass Effect is a prime example of the kind of source material we at Legendary like to develop; it has depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story. This coupled with Avi and Ari producing and the skills of a great team adapting the screenplay, are the start of turning this smash videogame based property into a successful feature film."

It's on IGN.com .By compelling characters, I believe it implies the cast of ME1.

Have to say, having watched LOST for ages now, I always thought Matthew Fox who plays jack Shepard would be great to play as Commander Shepard in a movie as IMPO he looks a bit like the default character, and he will feel right at home as is first name could be Jack.:D

What really makes Mass Effect a good basis for movie-making is its rigid adherence to authored narrative and lack of in-game choices.

Both of those descriptions are true. Is there anything particularly wrong with that?

I think it makes for a poor game.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if I like the Mass Effect movie more than I like the the game.

And I'm honestly surprised that there are still people who think male Sheapard is not being treated as canon. When you catch a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, and that kid adamantly claims he's not taking cookies, do you believe that he's not taking cookies? Male Shepard has always been canon.

But why?  Does there need to be a canonical Shepard?  The only time it ever really matters is if you're making a sequel and you're forcing the players to accept that the choices they made in the first game didn't actually happen.  Otherwise properties like books and movies need only be instances of the character, rather than the actual character (and everyone who played a different character was wrong).  Just like the how two different characters you might have played don't prevent each other from being legitimate, the same is true of movie Shepard.

There's no need to call one canon and the rest not.

Only on this forum, bud.  And on this forum is a very small number of fans, that are too vocal, IMO.

If they have a Tali romance in the movie, I'll burn every copy of it I can find.

I am very pleased this morning to announce that there will be a Mass Effect movie made by the fine folks at Legenday Pictures! I know there has been a lot of speculation amongst our fans ever since Mass Effect 1 came out as to whether or not there would be a movie, who should star in it, who would direct, would there be a Wrex sized bucket of popcorn, etc and I can now reveal that, yes, there will be a movie (popcorn deal is still unconfirmed.

Legendary Pictures, the studio behind great films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover and 300 have picked up the rights to make Mass Effect. Legendary Pictures will produce with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni along with Avi Arad (who has been behind great films like Iron Man, X-Men and Spider-Man). From BioWare Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuck and Casey Hudson will serve as executive producers.

"At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series. “With Avi Arad and Legendary attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans.”

I am super psyched for this and look forward to seeing the Mass Effect movie take shape.

Is it too early to buy tickets? :)

I'll wait for some trailers, but I'm cautiously optimistic. :D

Thoughts like this will make me feel sorry for whoever they cast to play the role of Tali.  That's a pretty high expection to fill that suit.

Why are so many people concerned about "canon"... This won't be tied in any way to the games other than using the same setting/characters. It's no more canon than my own ME playthrough is to you or yours is to me.

The odds of this movie being like Resident Evil Degeneration are slim to none.

I don't know why I am against this ... I should support it, because when the Tali-fans realize that her part is so miniscule in keeping with the plot from the first game, and there is no completely masked 3-fingered chicken-footed romance scene they will destroy the studio ensuring that no more video game movies get made!! Why didn't I realize this sooner!! LOL

Sorry this may be a bit off topic, but I have to say how astonished I am that there is a debate over the canonical nature of Vanderloo-Shepard. Sure, you can say it's just intended for marketing, but it would have been far better to, oh I don't know, leave the helmet on Shepard in various promotional materials, stressing the idea that the person underneath is solely the player's vision. Instead, they hired a model, used his face, a face which happens to look significantly better than the sort of plastic character creator faces, put it in all the media, action figures, etc. While I think it's perfectly reasonable to have a Shepard of either sex, I've played through with both myself, it seems fairly obvious what is, and is not, canon.

As far as the film goes, I'll wait until real progress is made before passing judgment. After all, Halo got a far as a script, a good director, and a budget before the plug was pulled, and Halo is a far more well known and popular franchise (sad, but true). This sort of deal happens all the time, and I think everyone should wait until some concrete details emerge, and the project actually moves forward, before singing its praises or condemning it.

I'm excited by this and a little nervous. I love the idea of seeing Mass Effect on the big screen, but I'm worried a movie won't be able to do it justice. But Ray, Greg, and Casey being on board give me hope. Avi Arad also has a pretty good track record for the most part, and I won't deny the awesomeness of The Dark Knight or Watchmen.

So perhaps the forces are in alignment for the first great video game-to-movie translation.

Personally, I think the best idea would be to cover an event prior to the games, like the First Contact War, or tell an entirely new story. I've seen some people mention the Rachni Wars, and I disagree. While it would be interesting, there has to be a human element if the movie is to be successful.

As far as my opinions on actors go, if characters from the movie are to appear, Seth Green must be Joker. Keith David must be Anderson. I know a lot of people are saying Matthew Fox should be Shepard, but I disagree. He's too old. Not that 43 is old, but Shepard is supposed to be 29 during the events of ME1, according to the timeline in the codex. I think that Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth would be better choices.

Whew, long rant there. Anyway, here's hoping the movie turns out great.

I love the idea of them doing a movie on the First Contact War or the Rachni Wars.. Or even a story taking place during the genophage.. But I don't want them to tell the story of Shepard.. They have said they would never tell his story. So I am hoping they will stick to their word and do one of the other stories that are available to them..

heh, thay can't make movie about rachni wars, cuz there were no humans around :P first contact war is what Im praying for
