seriously, you guys need to chill out and, don't take this the wrong way, assume that a whole bunch of seperate ideas that don't add up to each other will have a bearing as to how the movie will be made. So far the only thing that most people are saying is:

"I don't want this movie to be made because all video game movies suck and thusly ME3 will suck."
"I can't get into the movie because it isn't 'my' Shepard."
"They should make the movie about such and such war or event."
"They should make Shepard such and such sex."
"This 'Real Life Person' should play as 'Mass Effect Character.' because he or she looks like him or her."
"I hope the movie doesn't have such and such actor."
And my favorite that I personally agree with since the teaser trailer looked so amazing:
"They should make the movie CG and use the original voice actors to preserve the integrity of the characters."

What most of you fail to realize is that it isn't your money or franchise to do with what you want. BW will do what they want with the movie and game as how they see fit in order to make money. So far their track record is pretty good and you all should have faith that BW won't settle for anything but to satisfy expectations as each game they have come up has done.

Too bad Sigourney Weaver is old now. She would have been perfect for femShep.

That's kinda what I was thinking too.  Had to add her in there somewhere.  Sigourney Weaver as Benezia would also be nice I think.

Can we petition for Joss Whedon to write the script? I love that guy.  While we're at it, Nathan Fillion for Cmdr Shepard.

This thread has quickly become the Nexus of Bad Casting Choices.

I've honestly seen people seriously suggest Vin Diesel, Arnold Swarzenegger, and The Rock as possible choices to play Shepard. WTF?

I think Dwayne Johnson could pull it off, actually.  He's believable as an ass-kicker, and he's funny.

...and we will only know when it comes out and we go to see it. Hopefully it will have a better turn out than Serenity.

@clennon8 threw that one on purpose as Fillion did a superb job as Mal but Fillion is more like Brendan Fraiser from The Mummy. Both great actors but type-casted as comedy unfortunately.

I think most people are overreacting about how the movie might suck, but don't worry, Im sure the movie will be atleast decent. I'm also pretty sure they are making sure that the movie won't be crap which is most likely the first priority. They don't want the fans to be pissed which will mean Seth Green will be playing Joker if the story is around where the game was.

I think the stigma about game movies always sucking is mostly B.S. How many game movies have there been really?

Super Mario Bros. was the first that comes to mind. Really that movie was a videogame movie in title alone. Then Mortal Kombat which was very good if anyone remembers, though the sequel kind of sucked. After that was of course Street Fighter. This is the movie, I think, that makes up the foundation of the "videogame movies always suck" stigma. That started the ball rolling, but Double Dragon really put the fix in.

No more game movies for a longtime after that. Then came a suprise: Resident Evil. Which, very much like Mortal Kombat, dispite having source material that was very limited in scope, turned out to be a fine film. The sequels are serviceable, but not dismal either, again mostly due to the shallow source material. Then there was Silent Hill. This was a genuinly frighting film that I enjoyed. I knew it was a game movie, but I never played the game, and still I enjoyed it.

Then came Dead or Alive and yet another Streetfighter film. Two more blemishes on the very short history of video game movies. There were also the Tomb raider films which did well at the box office. Doom was decent, but the game that inspired it never had a plot until a sequel that came out after the movie. Currently there is Prince of Persia. I haven't seen it myself, so I'll reserve judgment, but I haven't heard good things. There is a definite ebb and flow to the history of videogame movies much like that of comic book movies.

Hollywood will have to catch lighting in a bottle like they did with 'Blade' before videogames start to be appreciated as a valid source for films. After Blade, came a few movies nobody new were comic movies except for comic readers; From Hell, Road to Perdition, Ghost World, A history of Violence. These movies wouldn't have been considered before 'Blade' and even then they were likely selected due to both their obscurity and how they translated so seemlessly from comic to film with so few the wiser. They were all box office and/or critical successes though, and they paved the way for "legitimate" comic movies like Spiderman, The Hulk, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, and Iron Man. Before 'Blade', the landscape of comic films was littered with duds (Anyone remeber Nick Fury: Agent of Shield? naw didn't think so), but 'Blade' made Hollywood take notice of something they hadn't before: making a genuinly entertaining and profitable film out of a comic book was indeed possible.

I think it will take a project like Blade to give legs to a videogame movie boom. Bioshock would have been my personal favorite. Though I liked the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, honselty I was glad to hear the director of that franchise backed out of making the movie. His budget demands would have choked the creativity out of the project. As long as the director takes a 'do more with less' approach and trys to capture the mood of the setting properly like the directors of From Hell and Pitch Black did, Bioshock could be the movie a really great film, I think. that gets the ball rolling for bigger frachises like Mass Effect and Halo to get the attention they deserve.

I'm crossing my fingers that the movie focuses on the First Contact War, and not the ME1 story line. A story like this one would be extremely hard to **** up because it speaks for itself, however, being that everyone's shep is different, and everyone's story is different, no matter which direction is taken with the production (assuming it is based on ME1) it stands to be something of a disappointment. It is kinda fun to think about who they would cast though. Here's my opinion on that matter.

Female Shepard - Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element)
Male Shepard - Andy Whitfield (Spartacus Blood and Sand)
Liara T'Soni - Jessica Alba (Sin City)
Ashley Williams - Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall)
Kaiden Alenko - Shia LaBeouf (Transformers)
Tali ' Zorah - Famke Janssen (X-Men)
Garrus Vakarian - Liam Neeson (Taken)
Wrex - Stephen Barr (Original voice actor for Wrex)
Joker - Seth Green (Original voice of Joker)
Captain Anderson - Keith David (Original voice of Captain Anderson)
Ambassador Udina - Peter Mensah (Spartacus Blood and Sand)
Dr. Chakwas - Helen Mirren
Saron - Gary Oldman (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban/ The Fifth Element)
Matriarch Benezia - Sigourney Weaver (Aliens)
Admiral Hacket - Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
Asari Consort Sha'ira - Viva Bianca (Spartacus Blood and Sand)
Dr. Chloe Michel - Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight)
Fist - Manu Bennett (Spartacus Blood and Sand)

as for ME2 characters

Miranda Lawson - Yvonne Strahovski (Original Model and voice of Miranda)
Jack - Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta)
Grunt - Steve Blum (Original voice actor for Grunt)
Jacob Taylor - Tristan Wilds (90210)
Mordin Solis - Noah Taylor (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
Thane Krios - David Tennant (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
Samara - Sanaa Lathan (Love and Basketball)
EDI - Tricia Helfer (Original voice actor for EDI)
Morinth - Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds)
Illusive Man - Martin Sheen (Original voice of Illusive Man)
Aria T'Loak - Carrie Anne Moss (Original voice of Aria T'Loak)

Well that was fun.

Let's see....(I'm going to criticize this list)

ME 1

Milla Jovovich as F. Shepard...very good choice - but the movie is centered for a male shepard. Sometimes we just hope, though, right?

Andy Whitfield as M. Shepard...very good choice as well. He is one of my top picksPosted Image

Jessica Alba as Liara...Umm, I actually thought she would good as well the first time. But there are other younger actresses who can pull her off. Not saying she wouldn't be good for the role, though.

Mila Kunis as Ashley...Oh yeah, I can see her as an Ashley. She and two others have my top picksPosted Image

Shia LaBeouf as Kaidan...NO. Absolutely not. I will not waste my time on an overrated actor for a supporting role like this.

Famke Janssesn as Tali...First time looking, I had chosen her. Now, I think she's a bit old, regardless of having a mask on or not.

Liam Neeson as Garrus...Uhh, I'm not so sure about him. You may think he has the voice, regardless of CGI or not, but for this kind scale on a movie, I wouldn't pick him.

Steven Barr as Wrex...Right on the money. Wouldn't have it any other way. Posted Image

Seth Green as Joker...Need I say more? Posted Image

Keith David as Anderson...I would certainly pick him. There are other choices, but he's my favorite out of all the actor possibilities for Anderson Posted Image

Peter Mensah as Udina...You're the first person to consider him. I'd certainly root for him. Posted Image

Helen Mirren as Chakwas...It's between either her or Meryl Streep. To be honest, either one of them will work Posted Image

Gary Oldman as Saren...I would actually rather the VA who did Saren than Oldman. But if they decide to not use CGI on Saren (which I don't know if they are), then he would be a contender.

Sigourney Weaver as Benezia...Between her and Cate Blanchett, I'd root more for Cate Blacnchett. But Weaver is a very good choice - I just prefer Blanchett.

Viva Bianca as Shaira the Asari Consort...She, like Mensah, is also a new idea. I'd be fine with her. Posted Image

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Dr. Chloe Michel...The third person that has never before been an option as a minor character. I would be wary of this choice, however. It wouldn't fly by me (or by anyone else) for her star quality to shine for 2 minutes into the ME Movie and isn't seen ever again.

Manu Bennett as Fist...Fourth person. Sure, I wouldn't mind. He would fit like a glove. Posted Image

ME 2

Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda Lawson...Right on the money. Though I have trouble dealing with other users on these forums that DON'T choose Yvonne. Why the heck not? Anyway, perfect choice. Posted Image

Natalie Portman as Jack...First time through, I thought it would be Megan Fox. But now she sucks. Natalie Portman, I think, is the best choice for this characters by far. Posted Image

Steven Blum as Grunt...HECK YES! Posted Image

Tristan Wilds as Jacob Taylor...NO. Way too young for a role such as this. I would have to wait until he matures. But until then, I would pick somebody else.

Noah Taylor as Mordin Solus...I wouldn't choose him. To me, it's not about his character - it's the way that Mordin articulates his words quickly and I don't think he has that. Don't worry - this character is difficult to think of (if you're not including a CGI character) if you're trying to choose the right actor.

David Tennant as Thane Krios...Really? If that were the case, why not try to just switch him with Noah Taylor? I'll be honest - it'll look much better if you switch them around. (Unless you had an accidental typo)

Sanaa Lathan as Samara...I'm not blown away with her. I wouldn't pick her. Rather, what about Famke Janssen for her or even Morinth?

Rosario Dawson as Morinth...Mmm - that's a bit pushing it. Agewise.

Tricia Helfer as EDI...Joker and EDI would make a great couple. (Awkward) Posted Image

As for the Illusive Man and Aria T'Loak, both of them are on the money. Posted Image

Overall, you've done pretty well. Keep up the good work Posted Image

not too bad but for Tali i would prefer the original voice actress Liz Sroka

Milla Jovovich as femshep is an awesome idea
male shep =Paul Walker

Avi and Ari Arad are signed up as two of the producers. That gives me some pause. They were at least partially responsible for X-men Origins: Wolverine and X-men 3. I was never that in to the X-men comics and I thought they were pretty lame. The real fans of the source material hated the movie. I'm not real anxious to see him work on an adaptation of something I've enjoyed this much.

They've said 2012, but movies tend to get delayed these days so I'd bet 2013 or even 2014.
