A female Shepard wouldn't be a good idea in the movie.

Why not, why does the person's sex matter, as long as they can do the part does it really matter.

Because maleshep is canon and the face of Mass Effect.

I'm 99% sure this movie will be crap because I have never seen a good video game movie.

But seeing as Bioware is personally taking a role in it's development it gives me some hope.

Personally I don't care who's the main character or what storyline it chooses, so long as the movie is good.

That's why I'm hopeful. In mast cases, the game developers don't have a say in teh movie's creation. So hopeful bioware straightens up anything that could potentially go wrong.

BioWare needs to write the script and direct the cinematography. That is a must if this film is to be good.

im really afraid that they will f*** up the move bad.

i mean... how long does it take you to play through ME 1 + DLCs (last playthrough was around 25h for me)

then take ME 2 + all the DLCs (the char that i have done all the dlcs with has 38h on her playtime)

now add ME 3 ontop of that...ill guess about the same time to play through.

how the hell are they gonna fit this into 1,5h(usual hollywood movie lenght)

unless they plan on making alot of movies :)

PS: you can ofc play through me 1 and 2 much much much faster.. but whats the damn point if you dont explore everything and do all the sub quests :)

to FlashedMyDrive, resident evil series is awesome movie series :) and im quite sure the games came out before the first movie. i dont know if there was a book(s) that they based the games on tho.

First of all Lord Jaric, Prince of Persia was not a fighting game, it was an action adventure game with some fighting, just as ME is a RPG with fighting/shotting.  How closely did the Sands of time Movie follow the game? They can make a movie with Shepard included, and can make it well.  Who cares if it doesn't follow your Shepard, or my Shepard.

And do not get high and mighty when someone expresses their opinion about Shepard being a male or female.  It's thier opinion, so keep politics out.  Why should they have to tell you why "it" matters to them, after giving their take on it?

I know that over 166 pages it's been said, but I'm very cautiously optimistic about this. I love the franchise, but I also know that moving a videogame story to the big screen doesn't usually end well.

I do think that this is one of the very few that would make the transition successfully though.

In my opinion they should do a movie about how the protheans came to extinction , how they fought against the reapers, that way they don't conflict with the game and gives us some insight on them and the tragedy that followed them, and should include places from the game like illium .

People...Mass Effect is a very long game, even if you ignore the side-quests and focus only on the main mission. Granted, if they were to adapt the entire Mass Effect game, including all side quests, it'd probably be enough material for 2-3 season worth of television, or a good 10-20 movies (depending on how in depth they went with the side missions).

Obviously, they're not going to adapt EACH AND EVERY MISSION. If they use the storyline of the games for the movie (which they most likely will...thats what was successful in the game, thats what the production company will want to replicate in the movie), they're not going to bother adapting the random side missions. They'll focus on the main missions (recruiting Liara, Virmire, etc) and probably condense the hell out of those too. Does this mean it will suck? Not necessarily...its entirely possible to shorten an existing work to improve on it...its just unlikely.

It'll probaby follow the 3 act structure, the first act introducing Shepard and providing a bit of back-story on him/her and the ME universe and introducing the threat of the Reapers, the second act will follow Shepard recruiting his team (this will probably be the most condensed portion in comparison to the game), the third act being Shepard's fight against Saren (assuming he's in the movie) and Sovereign at the Citadel paralleling the huge space battle around the Citadel.

But seriously, people, can we use a little common sense and logic, here?

this movie had better be from humans discovering the prothean tech on mars, absolutely nothing to do with commander Shepard and the Normandy, like im13sandman said its all about choice by making a movie from the game they are making those choices for us, and that would completely suck!!!!

I dont think it will be about shepard maybe before the first game when it takes place but i dont see it being about shepard after the first or second game since are choices wouldnt be included in the movie and i am sure that would be weird importing save data from mass effect 2 to a movie GO LIARA

Or maybe they could make it about Miranda's early life and her exploits with Cerberus till the Lazarus project. Her background is so damn interesting that anyone with two brain cells will know that it makes for a good story. AND WE WANT YVONNE STRAHOVSKI!!!

I never said they couldn't make the movie with Shepard, just that it wold be hard when there is no set personality.

I wasn't be political, all I did was ask why it mattered this is a forum after all.

You seem to be taking what I've said way to seriously

Not likely - too much fantasy, and fandom 'round these parts.  People don't seem to understand how/why movies get made, or what kinds of movies studios want to make.  The biggest thing that people can't seem to understand is that the movie is NOT for the people on this board - that would be an utter financial failure (there's not enough of us).

But, I think you are absolutely right: the story will be the story from ME1 (maybe even all three - depending on when the screenplay is written, although I hope not) in some derivative  or condensed form.
