I would say do something on the lines of what Dark Horse did with there comic, do a movie that revolves around Shepard but doesn't show him or her, and is a lead in to ME3. Maybe something on the lines of Shepard is caught by the Reapers and Ashley Williams (I say Ashley, cause Kaiden sucked balls) is the 2nd human Specter and goes on a suicide mission to retrieve him or her, only to find that Legion and the Geth have beaten her to the punch. Leading into ME3 were the Geth fix up Shepard and you start anew campaign and take the Reapers head on.
The only way this will be a good movie is if Shepard is not shown, period, end of story.

If not, make it the first contact war where humans first meet the Turians. It will be a thriller sci fi.
Then make it a 6 episode movie like Stars Wars. Heh

Mass Effect may have a cinematic style, and be influenced by many great sci fi films, but the core of it only works as a game, in my view. It's a subjective experience that's tailored around our individual choices. That's what makes the game so memorable and brilliant. The stuff in the background; the different races, the story: that stuff's good, but not enough to justify making a film out of. Mass Effect's strength is that it gives people a personal stake in the adventure, and that's why it has such an impact. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to make this into a film, and I believe it will tarnish all the great leaps and achievements in engaging and artistic entertainment that Mass Effect has made so far.

But I've seen quite a few movies that have translated from comic books and/or games to the big screen.
..........not a high success rate.
Also, I think it's more fun to construct storylines for our Shepard's and see the game unfurl.

It wouldn't be the story of mass effect 1 because one of the most important aspects of Mass Effect is making decisions. The story is for the player to decide. Most likely the movie would be about the First Contact War because that is the same for everyone.
I've said that before they even annouced it. Its a great idea for a movie. You could use a few alien races and it doesn't seem like it would make us fans want to destroy things. This way Bioware and us the fans are happy and if we are all desappointed with it. Nobody gets hurt.

Don't know if this was asked, but aren't they building the movie around the "first contact war" with the Turians? That'd be pretty cool. And if they did that, they should also do the Krogan Rebellion (remember that story in ME2 where the Matriarch is at the bar and her parents "fought" against each other?) That would be a cool "cameo from the game". What do you think?
As far as I know, nobody has ever said what the story is - there is just a lot of wishful thinking in this forum. Given that a movie studio has to back this, I would be shocked beyond all reason if said studio did anything other than demand the story from the game. That's the "story" that became popular, so that's the story they'll want to see.

Why didn't Shepard save Wrex?"
I am curious if they would involve Krogan at all - seems kind'a problematic to bring them into the movie without making them "cheap" And they seem not crucial enough not to skip them completly. Anyway it is all about htir comitment to make ME the movie ass Mass Effect like ass possible and the budget of course.

But it would drive fans away from the movie with all of them asking "Why is Shepard a male? Why did Kaidan die? Why was Liara romanced? Why didn't Shepard save Wrex?" Besides the game is already a movie now.
Eh? Nonsense. THe vast majority of Shepards are male. Those are the stats. It would be "Tomb Raider" folly to put some hot chick in the Shepard seat. I hate watching movies where the woman acts like a man but totally lacks the physique/strength to believably carry it off (you'd have to go old-style East German - USSR days - weightlifter woman on male steroids to make it reasonable and...well, BLECH).
Kaiden or Ash could end up dying whether or not Shep is properly a dude. Depends on the emotional choice (and consequences) they would like to hand to the character of Shep. Does he sacrifice someone of great personal importance to him romantically or someone of great importance based on friendship? Etc, etc.
Like the rest of ya, I will wait until the movie comes to the point of them releasing previews. If I think it will ruin the game for me or leave a sour taste in my mouth then I wont see it. Simple. They do not HAVE to aim for the fanboy base, afterall, because of the potential viewing population, they are the minority. Broad audience is the goal so that is how it will play out. It ain't gonna be an arthouse movie. On the other hand, by the time the movie hits theaters, ME 3 will have come and gone and it would not likely matter much to players at that point. People aren't going to play the game forever.
