I don't agree. If you do it right, you can also play a paragade in the games who is very much a coherent character with a set personality. You just have to be mindful of the situation, think about your motives and what would be an appropriate reaction. You also have to consider the white or neutral options from time to time, not only the persuasion options. For a movie, it's even simpler because you can craft the whole dialogue without having to anticipate several permutations.

I totally agree. No one is total renegade or paragon. My last play through of the game, I was just about equal paragon and renegade points. I'm paragon to my team unless they need discipline and renegade to my enemies. That is real life. We're not all smiles and friendly. Sometimes we're bad ass. Shepard works that way. I'd love the movie to be based on ME1. I think it would be a hit. That's a great storyline.

I don't want to get caught up on the idea of 'canon'. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Maybe it would have been better to say 'accepted version for the purpose of the film'.
I just think that when you say Mass Effect to the majority of people who aren't immersed in the whole universe (and isn't a total fanboy/fangirl) then you'd get a lot of chatter about Shepherd and his story. And that is where the story of the film will go.
The problem* we have is that Mass Effect has been made in such a way that every player effectively has their own personalised movie - and that's an amazing thing. The difficulty now comes when the film studio tries to make a movie that impresses newcomers and also honours the faithful followers of the games already.
If the movie does centre around Shepherd then I'd like there to be a way it doesn't affect our own established character - but I don't see that happening. I'm convinced we will see a film about Shepherd.
I think back to the new Star Trek film, which explained the 'new' story as an alternate reality kind of thing. If Mass Effect could get away with its own believable, satisfying version of that then I think we'd be smiling
*Not really a problem but hopefully you see what I mean

It's been picked up by the same studio responsible for "Clash Of The Titans".
... it's doomed. DOOOOOOMED, I TELL YOU!
*begins parading "end is nigh" signs*

It's also the studio responsible for "The Dark Knight" and "Inception", 2 of the best movies to be made in recent years.

Didn't Legendary Pictures also do LotR?
eh? No, LotR was Wingnut Films (Peter Jackson's company) and distributed by New Line.

In other words, legendary pictures being involved means jack diddly. Those 2 movies had Christopher Nolan. What does this one have so far? Avi Arad

In other words, Bungie wanted a good movie, so the Hollywood execs backed out cuz' they couldn't deliver.Gleym wrote...
The reason the Halo movie isn't being developed is because Bungie has integrity. They refused to allow for Executive Meddling and altering of their vision for the movie (they wanted a movie that was faithful to the story and concept of the games), and so the Hollywood execs cut them off.

Thomas Bergersen who did this for star trek should compose the mass effect film. imo i think this track is a perfect example
Don't forget his collaborator, Nick Phoenix. They're excellent. And they composed the music for the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer.
But I do feel that Jack Wall's work on the games (along with his collaborators, Sam Hulick, Richard Jacques and David Kates) already has that Remote Control Studios sound. Rather than hiring one of their people, they should just get Jack Wall to compose the score for the movie and simply get someone from Remote Control Studios (like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, or John Powell) to produce the score.

What everyone should brace themselves for is a movie that isn't remotely like Mass Effect outside of names, some races, and a very basic handling of the story. That way you'll avoid the crushing disappointment.
