1 male shep and 1 female shep.
Most scenes would be the same, just swap actors. They do more than 1 take anyway on a scene most movies.
The love scenes (if any) would of course require different approach. The action scenes...well most movies use stunt double and CGI mix, so alot of scenes wouldn't require major re-shooting.
There would be some subtle differences and scenes unique to both movies but on the whole they would be the same.
The marketing angle they could exploit would make the movie a hit. Think ps3 Vs xbox type arguments as to which movie is better!
Internet wars of epic proportions could ensue.
Arguments could go on for years (if both movies didn't suck..VG to movies have not done so good in past)
Majority of fans would watch the 2 movies (if not in cinema definitely on DVD)
Could sell seperate dvd and special edition 2 in 1 set.List could go on.
Entertainment news could pick up the story of the "unique" new blockbuster which is 2 movies but really 1.
If done right, the whole Mass Effect movie experiance could be nearly as awesome as the games themselves.
(Emphasis on "nearly" ,as the games are unique for each person playing them. They will always be the best way of enjoying the Mass Effect universe)
I think they should really give serious consideration to something like my proposal.
Dual movies would rock!!
P.S. Prison break guy looks exactly like default shep.
For me though..maybe Matthew Fox for male shep..Charlize Theron (Aion Flux style) for femshep.
my vote would then be in the femshep camp:D

The guy from Prison Break could work if he bulked his body up some. And he seems to have decent enough acting chops. The worst thing would be if you got someone like Channing Tatum who might look the part (perhaps a bit pretty boy) but who's a bit flat on screen.

Here's a pic of Lauren Lee Smith. I think she would be perfect as Liara in the movie. Just imagine her blue.

for the story...yeah leave shepard alone...the developers paved the way for a great future and they already got enough interesting characters and historical events which can be used for a movie.
i am only afraid of bad criticism because of the sci-fi originality...so far mass effect included nearly all famous sci-fi movie plots/ideas...
...okay but that doesnt mean anything bad...for me its not copying...its more like a tribut to them
and hey...avatar for example had one of the most common stories...but it was succesful...i just hope for the best

The idea of a CGI movie is good too, but at that point I'd prefer a serial or a group of shorts like done with Animatrix or Halo: Legends, that will show different version of the story, allowing us to watch the one closest to our playtrought. If I'm not wrong I'm even not the first one who mentioned this.

That because those movies were directed and produced by people who had 0 interest in the franchise, and that wanted just to make a mediocre movie to get some moneys. For example that's why there still isn't and Halo movie... every possible producer renounced in the moment it was clear that they'll have get only somo money from the movie sales and not by the other Halo-related stuffs. No not enough money, no one interested. But if Bioware will supervisionize the making of the movie there may be hope to see something decent... if not I'll be at least satisfied to see Wrex crushing some heads, or to have a certain Quarian on the big screen.
Supervisionize is now officially my new favorite word, ha!

Your Shepard didn't save Eden Prime? Your Shepard didn't become the first human Spectre? Your Shepard didn't rescue Liara, stop Matriarch Benezia, kill the Thorian, destroy Saren's Krogan cloning facility, race to Ilos and eventually stop the Reaper invasion?
Everything else is relatively minor. More things are changed when a book is turned into a movie than what would have to be decided on about Shepard's choices when they make the movie.
If you can't deal with the studio deciding that Ashley dies on Virmire instead of Kaiden, do you think the Legendary Pictures will care? There's only a few hundred thousand Mass Effect fans and of those fans, only a fraction would avoid seeing the movie if it was about a Shepard that was different from their own. That's very little money out of their pocket in the grand scheme of things.

See, it's like when you start off with a book that then becomes a movie. The main characters looks in the movie are the interpratation of the director, when we might read the book and imagine them looking different. Its the same with Mass Effect.
When we start a game, we customise our Shep the way we want her/him to look. If the movie had a male Shep played by whatever actor, that is how people would assume Shep is supposed to be.
So it shouldn't be about Shep, just the world and other characters.
