I don't get it; why is everyone dead set on making a "movie" we already have? The ME games will be far better than the movie.



Instead, shouldn't the movie be based on either the book series, (which would bridge the gaps between the games for those who haven't read the books) or important events such as the discovery of the ruins on Mars and the First Contact War.



War Hippo's suggestion of having two movies made is completely awesome! However, it is also utterly impractical too. (Releasing two same movies at the same time would not only increase production costs, but it would also divide the potential profitability of each movie.)

Once Hollywood gets it's grubby paws on a nice francise, they dumb it down for the lowest denominator, so the Idiocracy will flock to the theater to see bad CGI and explosions.. They did it with X-men (the latter 2, the first wasn't half bad except for the incessant whining of Rogue), Fantastic 4, Aeon Flux *slams head in desk a bit more violently* Quake *starts looking wistfully to wall to slam head in b'cause desk is broken by now* etc. etc. They already are eying Ghost in the Shell *SHUDDER*...



So, NO...just..NO! I have NO trust in a movie whatsoever. The moment a company gets the possibility to sell their franchise, their eyes and brains start to fill with dollar signs, and all is lost.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOU:O:crying: the xmen movies where awesome and the fantasic4 movies where pretty good and a mass effect movie would be even better as long as it stics to shepards story prefebly a prequal to me1 or the shepard trilogy now either way its gonna be awesome^_^ 

The 1st two X-men movies are okay and the Fantastic 4 movie blew and those were based on 40 years old properties those were treated With "respect" . What do you think is going to happen to a Video Game movie based in the realm of Sci fi. This movie has much a chance of getting made or being good as movie about Rockband.

I adore, worship and love my female Shepard, and I will always play this games as female Shepard. That story, that voice acting, those effects....SHEpard!!!!!



I am freaking out about this whole ****! I have played this games for 25 times already, and, believe me, I know what I'm talking about!

I am sorry for my words, but please, please, don't make a BIG MISTAKE!

In every frakin' movie on this planet, ALL MAIN ROLES, THE HEAD OF ALL STORY'S ARE MALES!!!



So I ask you now, BIOWARE & LEGENDARY, DO YOU DARE TO MAKE A FEMALE SHEPARD STORY ON BIG SCREENS???? Or are you COWARDS LIKE THE MOST of other people from the entertaining business????

All people I know who played this games say the female Shepard is far more better choice....

Bioware, do you dare to loose a tons of fans for not giving it a chance with fem Shepard hitting the big screen????

Negatory. The X-Men movies blew (not so much the first one). So did Wolverine and Fantastic Four. But Watchmen was decent, and Sin City and 300 were awesome, which shows that those kinds of movies can be done well. 

However, the important part to remember is that Casey Hudson and Ray Muzyka are executive producers. They will not let Hollywood jackasses ruin their property. I think it will be done right.

That said, don't do Shepard's story. It's epic, and I love it so much, but I will be done with it. Also, I will be very disappointed when I see necessary liberties taken to reduce a story that was designed to take 100+ hours down to 2-3 hours. A different story would enable Bioware to craft it to the medium, so that it doesn't suck. I also don't want to see my choices invalidated by supposed "canon" that sucks. 

I vote for the First Contact War. That would be totally sweet. Throw some Asari and Krogan in there for good measure, too. Easy to do with an Asari Commando unit and Krogan mercenaries.

Prequel would be nice. Get to see how some of the people in game got to where they are i.e. Udina. Was he always so annoying or did someone kill his space hamster?

The FCW was just a kid's argue compared to Shepard's story... it may become a good movie, yes, but it's not fairly epic compared to that. The ME movies will have to be appreciable but non-fans too... that's means that in a count fo 500 people 5 will be interested in FCW 'cause they knows Shepard, and the others wouldn't care nothing about seeying Udina, Anderson or Saren in the past.



A good example about this kind of situation is Watchmen. The movie is done really well, and it's follow the comic well, or reinterpretates it decently at least, but the medium watcher was so used to the classic super-heroes movies that almost anyone who didn't read the comic considered the movie boring, 'cause it was too introspective. That's the same... you'll need somethin' to catch the non ME-addicted, and only Shep's main story have that power, actually.



And we'll always have the games, if the movies comes out bad, or if the story uses a canon that we dislike.

What would be cool is if the movie gave backstory or events from some of the books. This way it works with the game and doesn't try to re-create what we all have had experienced from the awesomeness that is ME. Especially since each of our experiences are unique - they all differ at least in some way from other players. So re-creating or doing the game stories differently would be really difficult and probably destructive to the enjoyment of the whole franchise.

I have been reading the ME books and it would make more sense to focus on material outside of the game for the movie. Because Shepard can be changed to fit a player's preference (e.g. male, female, Caucasian, darker skin tone), I want a Mass Effect movie to talk about more defined characters or events.

Why not focus on Cerberus and show the back story of Illusive Man? Someone else suggested the First Contact War. Show the fall of the Quarian homeworld and the rise of the Geth. There is so much going on in the ME universe; I would hate to see Hollywood redefine what has already elapsed in the game (e.g. the death of Wrex Urdnot, saving the Destiny Ascension). Those choices are defined by the player because it is an interactive medium. By creating a passive interpretation of Mass Effect, namely this feature film, put the focus on something we the players can't control.

the mass effect movie, i'm hoping, will not have shepard in it, only mildly mentioned. why? it will cause plot holes for any one that has ever played it. Though other game into movies have sucked, theres a chance that the mass effect movie would be epic due to the producers that are SAID to be signed up for it. All i can say is Finger's crossed

I agree with Game2create-- I would LOVe a story about the Illusive Man or even the Krogan Wars (can you imagine the drama of having to neuter a sentient species?). Or maybe even one on the Rachni. They didn't talk too much about how they nearly died out. It could be Starship Troopers all over again...

According to the ME2 data that BioWare posted, 80% of people who played ME2 with an Xbox live account played a MALE Shepard.  

So we're not going to lose "a ton of fans".  The fact of the matter is that its not cowardice that causes studios to not use female leads.  Its economically proven that action movies starring females make less money on average.  The statistics I saw was that an equal budget with a female lead over a male lead makes approximately 66% of the gross.  

Everyone has to take a step back and realize who is making this movie (a big time Hollywood studio, Legendary), and who they are making it for (a general audience, not the fans exclusively).  

Its going to be a male Shepard, its going to follow the plot of the first game and its going to be made as a "summer blockbuster".  That's how these things work.  Believing otherwise just means you're in denial or completely illogical.

Really? I thought a female lead would earn a producer more money if they were little to no clothing at all...



Though I do enjoy playing a fem Shepard (her voice acting is amazing), since male Shep seems to be the default (as males are for almost all games that have both genders in them), it wouldn't surprise me to see a male lead.
