Watchmen, 300 and The Dark Knight were all succesfull transposition anyway, so expectations are kinda high...
Have you guys thought about JJ Abrahams? He did one hell of a great job with Star Trek.
Cheers
A younger Mark Strong would be appropriate as Shepard I think...

As for the different actors/actresses for the characters, Olivia Wilde would be sexy, but Yvonne Strahovski is both the voice and facial model for Miranda and, assuming she has no qualms with dying her hair black, she would be perfect. I could also see natalie portman playing a decent Jack depending on how well she can do an american accent. Of course, this is assuming any of those characters are even in the movie.

Natalie Portman is American. You're probably thinking of Keira Knightley.
Casting such a big actor for a supporting role like that would be a disaster. There's no way to make everyone happy on a set like that and the budget would be ASTRONOMICAL. You'd need an ensemble cast of lesser actors like they did for Star Trek.

I can see this going very wrong, very easily. Lets hope the 'fine' folks at legendary pictures don't screw up my favorite franchise this gen when translating it to film.
you seem to agree with me.
so why the insult?

And I hope it's about the first contact war, anything involving shepherd would ruin the games, and anything after or parallel to that would throw too much information at people who haven't played the games.. If they do the First contact war they can introduce elements of the lore more logically. Otherwise people will just walk out and be like "So..... Why was it called mass effect?" or something even stupider.
But Im holding out for this! I hope they do what Abrams did to Star Trek!

I will repeat, for the thousandth time, the First Contact War was not a war. It was a policing incident with fewer than 2000 casualties, most of which occurred in ship to ship action.
There were no adult Human biotics at the time, there was no "hero" of the engagement, no other alien species were involved but the Turians until they were told to back off, the Alliance and Turian Hierarchy both come out of the incident looking like squabbling children and everyone hung their head in shame.
How does that make a good movie? And for ****'s sake how does that better explain the concept of "mass effect" than the intro text to ME1? The player didn't need any more than that text to understand the basic idea, why would a movie goer? Humanity discovered mass effect technology YEARS before the Relay 314 Incident. Either way, you'd need to include a prologue involving the Prothean ruins on Mars.
Don't pretend you're a fan of the series and that you'd be offended by portraying Shepard on the big screen if you don't even have the lore straight.

I would actually like to see the first contact "war" (for example, beginning of the movie) but i'll have to agree with you about the plot. So far Shepard's story seems to be the most interesting one, unless they decide not to follow the game's storyline and make up a new one.
But offtopic, dont go judging people so easily, that's just dumb.

I don't know what people are thinking suggesting actors for shepard. shepard is far too variable of a character to put in the movie. it is far more likely the movie story will be a story in the same universe, but seperate from shepard, like one of the novels, comics or what happened before, after and between the games.
Scrith wrote...
With some luck, the movie will be completely unrelated to Shepard. Which is good.
I agree. There are lots of different Sheps out there

Yes I think they did a great job with Star Trek and that's definitely the way to go with a Mass Effect film.
