This is completely untrue.  There has been no such announcement and anybody who actually cares about Mass Effect knows that the First Contact War WAS NOT A WAR.  It would make a terrible movie.

Please, don't spread lies and if you're making a suggestion, make sure you actually know the backstory.

Also, on a side note and as a male gamer, let it be said that I would much rather have the lead role cast with a female lead. We already have too many male heroes, we don't need any more. Give the girls someone to look up to that doesn't just use sex appeal to get what they want.

no... theres a reason this movie is being done by professionals

And you think professionals couldn't find a bad ass chick to play the role of a proper hero? Clearly you're pretty ignorant.

Name me a single movie series that's been able to do this successfully.  Give me one female action lead that didn't butcher her role or was only sold for her looks.  There hasn't been a single female action blockbuster to date and there's a reason for that.

They needed someone who looked like Lara Croft and who could act. So, even though they used someone who people thought was hot, didn't mean that her sole ability was using her body and that's why Lara Croft should still count. I didn't like the second movie as much, but I think people made a point that it can be done successfully and I think it would be awesome if they could choose a female lead for such a massive movie. After all, the whole idea about Shepard is that they can be anyone and aren't restricted to a particular race or gender and frankly, because of that, I think it should be taken advantage of in the upcoming film.

Nope

Why did my post not go through? Weird.

Anyway, as I said, Tomb Raider they needed someone who looked like Lara and they found someone who could have her looks and act decently well and has experience. So, I think that shows that it can happen and I think considering Shepard was shown to be anyone, race OR gender, that they should take advantage of that and show that in their film. I.e a female lead. I'd even settle for Will Smith, though, I'd rather see women get the proper respect they deserve, because I know plenty who are quite capable in the real world and more women need these role models to look up to and less of ones who have no talent and just whoring around.

This is a great article on how and why the Mass Effect movie could actually be good, as opposed to just about every single other video-game to movie adaptation. It also features the best casting list I've seen:

Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard

Zachary Levi as Kaiden Alenko

Ron Perlman as Urdnot Wrex (even if Wrex is just CGI, Perlman should be doing the voicework for him)

Emily Blunt as Ashley Williams

Mark Strong as Garrus Vakarian (Could just be CGI'ed and voiceover'ed, so Mark Stong isn't a must have choice)

Ellen Page as Tali Zorah nar Rayya (Same as above, I see no reason Ellen Page needs to play the role...could be anyone, really, since we never see Tali's face)

Liv Tyler as Liara T’Soni

Cate Blanchett as Matriarch Benezia

Hugo Weaving as Saren Artemis (Again, just a CGI'ed model would do, but Hugo Weaving would be a good choice for voice work for the character)

Helen Mirren as Doctor Chakwas

Seth Green as Joker

Keith David as Captain Anderson

Pete Postlethwaite as Ambassador Udina

Paul Bettany as Thane Krios (CGI would do, but Bettany would be another good choice for VO work for Thane)

David Hyde Pierce as Mordin Solus (Another CGI character, Pierce would fit Mordin's voice very closely)

Yvonne Strahowski as Miranda Lawson (A quick dye job and she's ready to go)

Harold Perinneau as Jacob Taylor

Noomi Rapace as Jack

Michael Clarke Duncan as Grunt

Tilda Swinton as Samara

Jason Isaacs as Zaeed Massani

Jennifer Garner as Kasumi Goto

Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man

Seriously, click the link above and check out the pictures of the characters in comparison to their casting choices. The looks match up almost perfectly, and in just about every case I'm sure the suggested actor is more than capable of pulling off their respective roles. Seriously, this is a great casting list. Maybe a bit unrealistic considering the salaries of most of those names, but still, were it to happen this way, I'd have not one complaint.

IMDB is edited by the public, just like wikias except that they don't need to include references.  There is no attached reference to that excerpt you posted, no quote from a producer, writer or anyone working on the project.

I mean IMDB listed Matthew Fox as playing Shepard but then said that the movie was going to be about the First Contact War.  For god's sake, HOW would Fox be playing Shepard in a First Contact movie when Shepard would have been THREE YEARS OLD at the time of the "war"

Not to mention that there was an article on Escapist with a quote from Matthew Fox from ComicCon saying that nobody had come to him in regards to starring in an ME movie.  Its all just rumor.

Having a tattoo means nothing in regards to your actual knowledge or caring for an IP.  I know a person with misspelled Aurebesh script on their arm who got it just because they thought it looked cool in Star Wars.  Not to mention another guy I know who has the Jaing Head Mandalorian symbol on his shoulder and refuses to read any of the Mandalorian based EU material.

If you actually read the codices and used an ounce of critical thinking, you'd realize that not only would a "Relay 314 Incident" movie be horrible, but you'd realize that the quotation you gave was from a flawed and self contradictory source.

I have to admit, that would be a great cast. The problem though, and a rather big one, is the cost of production that such a cast will have. Not only that but the actual length of the movie if it wanted to include the entire plotline of the first Mass Effect game. If we see a short movie, a lot of content will need to be cut and most of those high priced actors and actresses will be paid for essentially a cameo appearance. If we want it to stick as close to the original as possible...well....we may be talking about a 5-7 hour long, if not longer, movie and that is unrealistic.

And on a side note, I could have sworn the name was Saren Arterius or something not Artemis.....

Eowyn in Lord of the Rings.

Just two off the top of my head. But hey, you're entitled to your own narrow opinion.

Jesus, sorry i did not know that IMDB was edited by the public? =) happy now? And i'm not saying that if i have a tattoo of mass effect i know everything... the story and underlying bbackstory are just too big to understand all. But you know what i'll resign from this topic!

Once again forgive me if this has already been brought up but does anyone else think they should just have a model play Tali and still have the wonderful Liz Sroka voice her? Technically it could work because we never see her face.
