Once again forgive me if this has already been brought up but does anyone else think they should just have a model play Tali and still have the wonderful Liz Sroka voice her? Technically it could work because we never see her face.
I think that would work very awesome.

This is a great article on how and why the Mass Effect movie could actually be good, as opposed to just about every single other video-game to movie adaptation. It also features the best casting list I've seen:
Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard
Zachary Levi as Kaiden Alenko
Ron Perlman as Urdnot Wrex (even if Wrex is just CGI, Perlman should be doing the voicework for him)
Emily Blunt as Ashley Williams
Mark Strong as Garrus Vakarian (Could just be CGI'ed and voiceover'ed, so Mark Stong isn't a must have choice)
Ellen Page as Tali Zorah nar Rayya (Same as above, I see no reason Ellen Page needs to play the role...could be anyone, really, since we never see Tali's face)
Liv Tyler as Liara T’Soni
Cate Blanchett as Matriarch Benezia
Hugo Weaving as Saren Artemis (Again, just a CGI'ed model would do, but Hugo Weaving would be a good choice for voice work for the character)
Helen Mirren as Doctor Chakwas
Seth Green as Joker
Keith David as Captain Anderson
Pete Postlethwaite as Ambassador Udina
Paul Bettany as Thane Krios (CGI would do, but Bettany would be another good choice for VO work for Thane)
David Hyde Pierce as Mordin Solus (Another CGI character, Pierce would fit Mordin's voice very closely)
Yvonne Strahowski as Miranda Lawson (A quick dye job and she's ready to go)
Harold Perinneau as Jacob Taylor
Noomi Rapace as Jack
Michael Clarke Duncan as Grunt
Tilda Swinton as Samara
Jason Isaacs as Zaeed Massani
Jennifer Garner as Kasumi Goto
Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man
Seriously, click the link above and check out the pictures of the characters in comparison to their casting choices. The looks match up almost perfectly, and in just about every case I'm sure the suggested actor is more than capable of pulling off their respective roles. Seriously, this is a great casting list. Maybe a bit unrealistic considering the salaries of most of those names, but still, were it to happen this way, I'd have not one complaint.
I have to admit, that would be a great cast. The problem though, and a rather big one, is the cost of production that such a cast will have. Not only that but the actual length of the movie if it wanted to include the entire plotline of the first Mass Effect game. If we see a short movie, a lot of content will need to be cut and most of those high priced actors and actresses will be paid for essentially a cameo appearance. If we want it to stick as close to the original as possible...well....we may be talking about a 5-7 hour long, if not longer, movie and that is unrealistic.
And on a side note, I could have sworn the name was Saren Arterius or something not Artemis.....
As for the cost, thats why I said this in my post:
"Seriously, this is a great casting list. Maybe a bit unrealistic considering the salaries of most of those names, but still, were it to happen this way, I'd have not one complaint."
As for the length, I could see ME being just over two hours and working fine, by focusing the plot on the main missions of the game while smartly and deftly balancing character face-time and development. Basically the same thing the Avengers movie needs to pull off, but probably won't. There's no need to adapt every little mission, or even the majority of the side missions. The main bulk of the game is enough story for a two hour movie. Granted, this doesn't allow for the deep and interesting exploration of the ME universe the games afforded us, but neither did the first Star Wars. It offered unique and interesting glimpses of that galaxy far, far away, just enough to keep people interested and coming back for the sequels and Extended Universe material. Mass Effect the movie should aim to do the same. Two hours or two and a half hours allows for the introduction of Shepard and crew, the missions to the four planets to recruit the remaining crew members and give the crew time to develop as characters and reveal their motivations, etc, and finally a nice resolution with Saren and Sovereign. Its a fine line and tough to balance, but if done right could really be the difference between this movie turning out like Wing Commander or, well, the first Star Wars.
And yes, its Saren Arterius, not whatever that guy wrote in his cast list. Other than that small mistake, his list is genius. Though, I do agree there are some really unnecessary casting choices, most notably in the case of some of the bigger names as aliens who will probably have heavy make-up or mostly CGI. Voice acting is the main point in that case. But honestly, Ellen Page as Tali or Mark Strong as Garrus really aren't worth the cost. Ron Perlman voicing Wrex, however, is a MUST.

I wanna see Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man actually for real. I mean, they did model the character after him in the game, but to see him actually acting out the part for real? That would be epic.
Not only did they model TIM on Sheen, he voiced the character too. So if they were going to put TIM into a ME movie, I think Sheen is the obvious choice for the role assuming he's up for it--which why wouldn't he be? His scenes would be maybe a few days filming in front of a green screen in a nice AC'ed studio. Its not like he'd have to film anything in the middle of the desert or a swamp or something. It'd be a pretty cake acting job, especially considering he already performed it before (to a degree voicing the character in the game).
So, yeah, I'd like to see Sheen as TIM as well...Martin Sheen, that is. If I see Charlie Sheen anywhere near this movie, I'll lose my mind.
Now, here's my slightly edited list to reflect a more realistic casting approach in terms of affordability.
(VO) next to a name just means Voice Over, implying that character would be mostly or completely CGI'ed. Also, while some of the bigger names are still included, keep in mind their roles would likely be little more than a cameo or several brief scenes (Helen Mirren as Doctor Chakwas or Cate Blanchett as Matriarch Benezia for instance). Also keep in mind that many of these characters (assuming they're following the plot layout of the games) won't even appear until a second movie (I've left a space between ME1 and ME2 characters as a reminder):
Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard
Zachary Levi as Kaiden Alenko
Ron Perlman as Urdnot Wrex (VO)
Emily Blunt as Ashley Williams
????? as Garrus Vakarian (VO - doesn't need to be a big name)
????? as Tali Zorah nar Rayya (VO - doesn't need to be a big name)
Liv Tyler as Liara T’Soni
Cate Blanchett as Matriarch Benezia
Hugo Weaving as Saren Arterius (VO)
Helen Mirren as Doctor Chakwas
Seth Green as Joker
Keith David as Captain Anderson
Pete Postlethwaite as Ambassador Udina
????? as Thane Krios (VO)
David Hyde Pierce as Mordin Solus (VO - they could use an audio trick to slightly speed up Pierce's voice to match Mordin's)
Yvonne Strahowski as Miranda Lawson
????? as Jacob Taylor
Noomi Rapace as Jack
Michael Clarke Duncan as Grunt (VO)
Tilda Swinton as Samara
Jason Isaacs as Zaeed Massani
????? as Kasumi Goto
Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man
Reflecting those few changes, and keeping in mind these are partial casts for two theoretical movies, I think looking at it now that it would be quite affordable for a studio to use that list in terms of actual casting.

I think that would work very awesome.I do have to admit I love Tali's voice as is in the game.
Hopefully this will be what they end up doing in the movie. I also agree they could still use Martin Sheen in the movie as well maybe by using the same technology that they use on Patrick Stewart in X3?

Frankly, I think that the script should contain:
1. Eden Prime
2. Citadel
3. Therum, Noveria, Feros // ordered by priority
4. Virmire, Citadel again, then Ilium and the big fight.
anything more - movie's screwed. 2 - 2.5 hours are far too less to get the people involved in the me universe in the same way the game did. Also, 2.5 hours is far too less to properly introduce us to the original crew, make connection with it. Don't det me wrong - I love all the characters, can't easily choose my favorite one, but on the silver screen people don't have the time we spent in front of our TVs/monitors. The movie should focus on the essential supporting characters, such as:
1. Joker
2. Anderson
3. Liara
4. Saren
We all would love to see Wrex (my no 1, but he is not essential to the story), Garrus, Tali etc. but if you just throw them all in then you'll get only shallow sketches. And that is pointless.

There should be seriously trimmed cast. Or else it will be shallow and just another fail.

Oh, be still my underwear!
Seriously hope they don't cast that fanny-voiced git Gerry Butler!
I know I'm going to get asked what fanny-vocied means. It's a Scottish term, it's an insult, and it means his voice is not as manly as it could be!
No, I don't like him.

...are you talking about Gerard Butler's voice? The guy who's been shouting "THIS IS SPARTAAAA!!!" in 300?
I definitely can't imagine how a manly voice sounds like in Scotland...

That'll leave us with something new or, what I belive, a movie adaption of 'Mass Effect: Revelation'.

For many reasons, that have all be named at one point or another, I don't belive that the movie will follow Shepard. The first contact war, well it was an incident at a Relay. Probably not the stuff for an high budget movie.

Safest option aswell, a good backstory to enrich the fans and others interested in the Mass Effect universe.
Hope they take a reasonably unknown cast. Although, Mickey Rourke for a krogan?
