I don't care what they do with it as long as it's good enough for me not to be embarrassed by it.

Video game movies, you know, they tend to suck regardless of where they come from.

Maybe one day I'll be able to look film buffs in the eyes and talk about this.

I agree 100 percent with this statement.  As long as the movie isn't bad...it doesn't even have to be great.  I don't want to feel bad by telling people I went and saw the movie...Though if they pull it off and make the movie outstanding,  then Bioware will set a new standard for video game movies.

Apart of me wants the ME1 Storyline in the Movie... I know people complain that you can't do that because ME is based so much on decisions and that by making a movie about Shepard you are 'deciding' a ME universe Storyline that is almost no matter what going to differ from everyone else no matter what.

I just, ME1 shows (and Shepard's Story) the Epic that is the ME Universe.

However I do understand that ME1 would be difficult to fit into a 3 Hour movie and that makes me shy away from wanting Shepard's Story told. I mean, Max Payne's Original Storyline is PERFECT for being told is a visual format by actors. However... Fox wanted to put it into a 2 hour format and completely butchered the story and made one of the Single Worst movies I've seen (not to mention Fox caused the shut down of the Max Payne: Payne and Redemption movie which would've been pretty DAMN GOOD).

Max Payne (especially with the 'ACT' and "Scene" Divisions it had on it) would've been a great Mini Series on TV.

I don't see ME1 being something you can easily translate to a TV MiniSeries though.

Let's just hope that Uwe Boll will not have ANYTHING to do with this movie...

By the way I am not too sure about the movie...the Mass Effect universe is made to be OUR Mass Effect universe...... Instead, we are gonna have to see the 'hollywood' Mass Effect universe where unique politics and culture will be replaced by cheap 'out of bubble gum' humour...

Avi Arad seems to be moving in the direction of videogame movies. He's got his fingers in the upcoming "Uncharted" movie, which already has actors attached and a script finished, with production beginning this summer. Perhaps that's why we haven't heard anything about this movie since it was first announced: Arad and others are busy with Uncharted, and once that's safely away, they'll move towards Mass Effect. Either that or they're waiting for good directors to open up (i.e., Nolan after finishing the next Batman movie - I can only hope).

From what I've heard people are nervous about the Uncharted movie since Nathan Fillion was passed over for the role of Nate Drake, and Marky Mark Wahlberg got the role instead, and, well, we've all heard of the face-plant that was "The Happening." I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt - Arad produced the hell out of the Spider-Man movies, and just because Marky Mark melted down on "The Happening" doesn't mean he couldn't pull off a videogame role.

Knowing that Arad and Legendary are in control here, along with input from BioWare, I'm not worried. Though I hope they don't cast Marky Mark as Shepard, that'd turn Mass Effect into an unintentional comedy almost instantly.

You seem to be forgetting, or perhaps didn't know, that Mark Wahlberg also starred in Max Payne.

Yep, the Max Payne movie sucked big time. And to be honest, that is the only video game movie I actually did not like out of all the ones I have seen.

Movies based off video games have a horrible track record let's hope ME movie doesn't make us all wonder what the hell they were thinking.

Movies based on video games usually suck because they are made on the cheap (compared to other potential blockbusters) and star B-list actors, with some hack director running the show and writers that aren't likely to ever recieve accolades for their work. For the most part they are just  moneymaking ventures by the studios out to capitalize on an already established fanbase, without having to invest large sums of money.

Can a Mass Effect movie be good? Yes, if is given a budget on par with other Sci Fi or Fantasy epics like Star Wars, Avatar, or Lord of the Rings. Will it be good? I don't know. I'm not sure it will get that sort of funding, and if it doesn't you'll probably just have another lousy film that doesn't do the game it was based on justice.

I can only hope they don't make a movie about the game, but rather about the universe.

As long as it is not some CGI-fest then sure. Having alot of make-up and animatronics like Star Wars would be awesome.

I mean some CGI would be nice. But again... just not something like Avatar or something.

Either before Shep, or after Shep finished doing what he/she has done is fine. If it is made during the ME line and Shep is there, I won't be.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I feel we must be the target audience. Every single piece of expanded universe so far has been aimed at us, i see no reason why they wouldnt aim the movie at us. Also, think about this: if theyre aiming the film at people who have never played mass effect before, why would you make a film about the game? if your cynical point of view is correct, then theyre basically saying to the audience "dont buy our game because you wont like it. Just watch this instead". It makes more sense to make a film about something within the mass effect universe, somehow slightly tied into the plot of the games. This would be used to a) tell us, the fans, about an event we had no idea about to give even more depth to an already fantastic universe, B) show a new audience a dazzling display a pretty lights, colours and sounds to keep them amused for 2 and a bit hours and c) introduce new people to world of mass effect without ruining all the plot twists in the games.

You're comparing apples to oranges.  A successful video game does not necessarily equal a successful movie, as most video games turned into movies will prove (they mostly suck).

For a film to be financially successful is dependant on its production costs, etc.  But with a sci-fi, heavily dependant on CGI effects film that Mass Effect should be, you're looking at a pretty large budget (far larger than the budget to make the game).  Thus, you're looking to get an even larger return than the game got, meaning you need many more people to see the movie than played the game.  So, basically, its not the same thing.

Many of you do not remember me because I was on this post less than 4 months ago. But being a part of the discussion from the beginning, this doesn't matter because you may remember about The List that was shown.

If you don't know what The List is, it contains all the actors/actresses that many users had believed he or she would be a good choice as a particular role on only this website. The List is to benefit everyone by seeing what we - as a whole - have come up with and support you so you don't have to look for different actors/actresses on different websites or forums. If you had any addititional options for certain characters in The List, that will be very appreciated.

(WARNING: The List only contains names and is extremely extensive, ludicrous, and you will get really pissed off. Some users have REALLY thought that somebody other than what you would think can portray Cmndr. Shepard - for example)The List is divided into sections. So for today, you will see The List Part 1, which shows all of the actors/actresses picked to play certain characters in ME 1. So, without further ado, enjoy and be ****ng surprised:

The List (part 1 – All ME 1 characters)

(Note: The list is in no particular order, only has names, & all the VA’s are included on the list – even additional roles for VA’s. Unfortunately, since the list has so many actors/actresses, there was no point to even use pictures for every one of them.  Also, –  = RECENT ADDITITIONS; in this case, those were the actors/actresses added onto The List.)
