As long Flanigan gets to play a Shepard that's as sarcastic as his Stargate: Atlantis character, then I'd be okay with that pick. B)
Personally though, I'd pick Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate: SG1) for the role because he has the acting range, the voice, and the sci-fi audience already in place.

I hope J.J Abrams directs this film, I know I might be idealistic here but he did an awesome job in the Star Trek film that was released in 2009. I really felt that I was in between an intergalactic war. Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman are the masters of script writing. I felt the emotion all through out the movie and don't even get me started on their brilliant work on the television series fringe.

We must make a petition that this does not end up like the Tekken or DOOM movie.

note: DOOM film wasn't horrible, it's just that the Mass Effect movie has to be epic not simply good. A good example for epic, Prince of Persia produced by no other than Jerry Bruckheimer. I'm not sure with Avi Arad as a producer because he's had his share of adaptations with mixed reviews but I am confident in Legendary Pictures since they developed 300 and INCEPTION. Hopefully Warner Bros. joins in the production as well.

If the character's name were Col. Mitchell sure but it is Commander Sheppard so Joe Flanigan it is:P. Seriously though, Ben Browder definitly needs more work, I don't care where or how. He just does. IMHO he made the last two seasons of SG-1 worth watching. Not to mention the TV movies.

I hope they create the film with the same kick-ass CGI graphics as the release trailers!
They would be able to do so much more with that system, and a live action Mass Effect wouldn't feel right!  Posted Image

Agreed, if they do make it live action then it may just end up like that game-to-movie crap that everyone fears.

Easy, he would be male ... Why? ... When was the last time you saw the *female* shepard on the cover of a Mass Effect game box, or in a game trailer ... Just sayin

Man-Shep markets better.

You're definitely right about Ben needing more work, he has talent, presence, and is really good at comedy within a dramatic context, so why aren't those chuckleheads in Hollywood putting him to work in shows and movies with good scripts? Same thing goes for Colin Ferguson (Eureka), Adam Baldwin (Firefly), and Nathan Fillion (Firefly), though admittedly Nathan has Castle and Adam Baldwin is in Chuck, both of which are exceptional shows when it comes to network TV.

Anyhow, back on topic, character names aside, I still like Ben Browder for the role. He's better at those lowered brow, "I'm going to rearrange all of your limbs into a decorative origami critter," looks, with the voice to match. B)

THANK YOU FOR NOT INVOLVING MICHAEL BAY (EXPLOSIONS IN SPACE BLAAAAHH), keanu reeves is not a Shepard, the rock is not a Shepard, that crybaby from the transformers movie the guy with a girls name shila is not a Shepard, Jet Li maybe Shepard material Samuel Jackson to old but maybe he can pull it off. no typical jar heads i know he is a marine.

Aside from your Douche Bag way of talking I do agree with you.

Michael Bay is a man obsessed with Explosions and doesn't really make 'good quality' movies.

Keanu Reeves could never pull of shepard. Either Could LeBeouf (although I do like the guy as an actor). Dwyane Johnson is a little too old/built for my taste of who Shepard is...

Having Samuel L Jackson as Shepard however is a horrible idea.

Eh. I think the entire thing is a horrible idea. How do you condense a nonlinear 30+ hour experience into a two hour linear one? I mean sure, Mass Effect has the basic storyline but without all the side missions and extras, you're not really doing it any justice.

But who knows? Maybe that's just me.

Besides Matthew Fox and Henry Cavill, who here also thinks that Wentworth Miller could play as Commander Shepard?

as long as they use the new age technology then i dont mind, Avatar, Tron, Transformers and all the other 3D films will make Mass Effect 3 great if they take heed to the actualities that it is a movie in itself. Dont fix nor change just make us watch instead of playing.

I'm pretty wary of this. Everything Hollywood makes is a remake these days, and rarely is the final product any good. Personally if this movie is going to be any good, they shouldn't try and put the entire story of ME1 into the first film. There's so much story and depth in the series that a movie based on ME1 should be a trilogy. And not only that, the plot of ME1 would be in the second film, not the first.

While it may be blasphemous to want that, but trying to set up Sovereign, Saren, all the main characters, and the plot in a 2 hour to 3 hour movie isn't going to be that good of a movie. imho, the best thing they can do is go slow. Come up with an original plot for the first film, and end the film with Wrex, Garrus, Liara, Tali, Ashley, and Kaiden on the team, with the Council giving Shepard Spectre status and the permission to go after Saren. Then with everything all set up, the second film will go head first into the normal story. But hey that's just me. I doubt they'll think that out but I wish they would.

Still can't believe people are suggesting actors/actresses. The obvious choice is CGI with the original voice actors, either way there is no point as the casting has been done a while ago. So stop it

As far as story:

The one thing that I haven't heard suggested yet is origins of the reapers or the downfall of the protheans. Kind of a depressing movie as an entire species gets wiped out but atleast it would be cool to see them strike back with the mass accelerator. Assuming the Protheans were the ones to create said accelerator.

Yeah, I am never keen on games being turned into movies
