Still can't believe people are suggesting actors/actresses. The obvious choice is CGI with the original voice actors, either way there is no point as the casting has been done a while ago. So stop it

Couple of things wrong with that.  First, how many people really want a movie with Mark Meer as the lead voice? But more important, the track record for non-Pixar/Disney CGI movies is abysmal. For instance Beowulf, a much more widely known story, and with the voices and likenesses of more famous actors, was a flop. How would a Mass Effect CGI movie, about a much less well known story and without the star power of an Anthony Hopkins or Angelina Joile, draw a big audience?

FYI, there has not been any casting done yet.

As far as story:
The one thing that I haven't heard suggested yet is origins of the reapers or the downfall of the protheans. Kind of a depressing movie as an entire species gets wiped out but atleast it would be cool to see them strike back with the mass accelerator. Assuming the Protheans were the ones to create said accelerator.

The thing is, while that might be cool for us the gamers (and actually that would be pretty cool), that does nothing for the general population who have never even heard of Mass Effect. Why would the average person want to see a movie based on a property they've never heard of and which doesn't even feature any human characters? There's nothing to connect with.

Also, the giant mass accelerator was 37 million years old, long before the Protheans' time.

I'd like to see something without Shepard, like the books. I know it won't happen. But, no movie is going to match the incredible experience that the game has delivered.

I have always think of a movie were you can choose what is gonna happen next, having different endings and outcomes, similar to ME, the game. This would be the best opportunity to insert such an idea into a movie. If on DVD, you would choose through your remote, if on a Movie theater, the audience could vote on what to do next. The possibilities would be so large and entertaining.

Though I dont know if this has been already done, if it has, forgive my ignorance. Cheers from Chile and excuse my english,
I LOVE YOU GUYS AT BIOWARE  you have make my days so much better.

Ok how would they decide if Shepard is male or female
and whatever gender they pick shouldnt they get Mark Meer or Jennifer Hale to do it.

Just because an actor does voice over work for a video game character, doesn't mean they should play that character if it gets adapted to film. With film casting you don't just need to take into consideration the actor's ability to delivery the line  and whether or not their voice fits the character, but also whether the actor looks the part. Many of the Mass Effect voice actors wouldn't look the part, including Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale. That, and you need at least a couple actors with name recognition who would be a box office draw.  If Bioware cast all the voice actors as in the roles of the characters they voiced in the game, this movie would be guaranteed to flop if not straight to DVD.

Name me a movie with ZERO humans in it that was actually successful.

Can you name one?  No?  Because there haven't been any.  A Prothean vs Reaper movie would be terrible.  The audience needs something to relate to.  We need something that we understand and can empathize with.  A movie with no humans would be a huge flop.

Eh. I think the entire thing is a horrible idea. How do you condense a nonlinear 30+ hour experience into a two hour linear one? I mean sure, Mass Effect has the basic storyline but without all the side missions and extras, you're not really doing it any justice.

But who knows? Maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I am never keen on games being turned into movies

Yeah, not a fan either. They usually end up being just terrible.

If the movie is about Shepard. I want Andy Whitfield, hopefully he gets a clean bill of health.

I think Omega-202 meant movies with no humans but with aliens, not necessarily animals or robots.

Not to mention those were kids movies. I truly hope the producers are not wanting to turn Mass Effect into the outer space equivalent of Shrek.

It won't be a CGI only movie, there will be sequences with it in there but it won't be done all in CGI. they will use live actors for the human roles and for Tuarians probably and actor melded with some CGI (similar with other races) while say asari would be costume with live actors. its actually more time consuming (ie expensive) to do a massive CGI production than it is to use live actors. remember that.

@DarthFrylock007: Even if they are thinking of doing something that horrific (shudder), I would HOPE Bioware would step in and at the very least cuss some sense into the producers.

I don't think they would be foolhardy enough to aim this movie at kids, especially since the game itself is aimed at over 18 gamers. If they do this right, take their time, then they will have an awesome franchise on their hands. They rush it and we end up with another Wing Commander. The Wing Commander game was awesome. Break through in gaming, used live cut scenes. It had a good story line, then some fool said "Lets make a Wing Commander Movie! The video game is winner so the movie will be too." Well they rushed the movie, they had a crap script and no more Wing Commander games were ever made to my recollection. If I gotta wait 2 years for a movie that will do this franchise justice I'm willing to wait.

CGI like Final Fantasy The Spirits Within would be nice. I just don't know if I could accept a live action version of ME. It would just feel a little strange, IDK.
